What extracurricular activities have you been in throughout high school?

Caroline — I’ve been involved in the band program and a part of UIL Academics since freshman year.

Kate — UIL academics, Young Life, NHS, French Club.

What grade were you in and at what school did you start at in Argyle ISD?

Caroline — I moved to Argyle at the start of my third-grade year and attended Hilltop Elementary.

Kate — 7th grade; Argyle Middle. What college do you plan to attend, and what do you plan to major in?

Caroline —Texas A&M to major in Aerospace Engineering.

Kate — Texas A&M; Political Science.

Describe your reaction and the first thing you did when you learned that you are Valedictorian or Salutatorian.

Caroline — I was very relieved to know that I had made it, and I immediately texted my mom and my sister, and my close friends. We celebrated when I got home from school that day.

Kate — I felt incredibly relieved at first, and that quickly turned into excitement. I then immediately texted my parents and best friends.

Describe the dedication that it took to become top of your class.

Caroline — Becoming the top of my class wasn’t as much in the big things as it was in the little ones. If there was a way to increase my score by a few points, I would do it. Even if I could already achieve

a good grade, I would put in hours of effort to do just slightly better. Some sleep was sacrificed as well. Overall, reaching the top isn’t doing all the big things that everyone else does, it’s putting in extra work on the little things that add up over time.

Kate — To become Salutatorian, it took a lot of mental stamina and effort, as well as a willingness to sacrifice certain things. It also required a lot of patience to care for all four years instead of burning out. This meant I had to make certain choices about what extracurriculars I could do, or if I could have a job or not, and frequently, I had to give up those things, especially during junior year — which was personally the most difficult year.

What is your favorite high school memory?

Caroline — I don’t think I can pinpoint a favorite high school memory, but I could almost guarantee it happened on a school bus. Riding on the bus to football games, band competitions, or school trips, bus rides were where memories were made. I can remember people dancing up and down the aisles, voices yelling with music from speakers, weirdly positioned naps, and oddly deep conversations. Kate — Winning first at state in Austin for UIL literary criticism.

What was your favorite class at AHS and why?

Caroline — My favorite class at AHS was Mrs. Fischer’s Honors English II class my sophomore year. English isn’t my best subject, but the friendships and camaraderie built in that classroom were incredible, and it was always my favorite way to end the day.

Kate — Mr. Woody’s AP World History class sophomore year. This was the first truly hard class I had taken, and Mr. Woody did an incredible job introducing us to what it would be like to take AP classes for the next few years. I learned so much in that class because of Mr. Woody’s excitement to teach us.

Which Argyle ISD teacher impacted you the most?

Caroline — Coach Russell Perkins has been teaching me in math since I was in seventh grade. He is my UIL coach, my Algebra II teacher, and he let me travel with his basketball team for years. On top of being an incredible mathematics educator, he has taught me how to be a good person, a follower of God, and how to apply my skills to real-life situations.

Kate — Mrs. Hadley. She has been my UIL coach since sophomore year and was also my AP Language teacher junior year. She introduced me to literary criticism, which has been my favorite part of high school, but she also has supported and encouraged me as a person when I felt like I was only a student and nothing else.

What is your favorite AHS tradition?

Caroline — My favorite AHS tradition is after every football game when the football team runs over to the band to play the Alma Mater. As a band member, I believe it brings a sense of community to every game and gives me an inside look at the relationships of the football team.

Kate — The student-staff basketball game.

What’s your best advice to your middle school self?

Caroline — I would tell my middle school self to try her best in everything she’s a part of, get involved in everything she can as soon as possible, and not worry about how she is perceived or how she is different, because at the end of it all, it doesn’t matter.

Kate — Forgive people easily and be quick to apologize.

Who is your role model?

Caroline — My role model is my mom. While that’s a pretty cliche answer, I don’t think I have a cliche mother. My mom is exuberant

and joyful, caring for everyone, and is the most hardworking woman I know. In every task she takes on, she makes sure she completes it to the best of her abilities with no compensation. She works hard because she wants things to be better not because she wants any sort of praise. I aspire to be like her.

Kate — My aunt Lisa. She taught me so much about life and loving gracefully, and I hope to be as welcoming and kind as she is one day. She also reintroduced me to Young Life, which has become so important to who I am.

What is your biggest accomplishment outside of this great honor?

Caroline — This school year I got the honor of being a section leader for my band, and my biggest accomplishment was being able to be a positive influence on the lives of the underclassmen, being able to create deep relationships and provide sound guidance. I was placed in a position where I could work for the benefit of my group and hopefully make their lives a little bit better.

Kate — I already mentioned winning state for literary criticism, but besides that, serving on Young Life work crew for three weeks last summer because it is one of the hardest things I have done so far.

What are your goals for the future?

Caroline — My goal for the future is to do something that gives me joy. Whether that be working a big-time job at NASA, working from a computer at home, or not working at all, I hope to find joy in my life and use that to love other people well.

Kate — I plan to major in political science and possibly minor in history. After college, I plan to attend law school, potentially at UT Austin, and then work as a lawyer in whatever field I develop an interest in over the next couple of years.

rgyle ISD celebrates the culmination of a remarkable journey this year, as a select group of seniors near graduation day — a journey that began together back in 2010! Yes, you read that correctly. These 55 students started their educational journey in Argyle ISD’s Kindergarten classes and have risen through our entire K-12 program — together!

As they near the next phase of their journey, we extend heartfelt congratulations to them and the entire Argyle ISD Class of 2024. From their beginnings in Kindergarten, they’ve journeyed together, forming lasting bonds and facing challenges with unwavering determination. Their collective story embodies the spirit of the Argyle ISD motto — “Together We Soar!”

Honoring Excellence Argyle ISD Teachers of the Year

Argyle ISD recently had the privilege of celebrating the outstanding campus teachers of the year for the 2023-2024 school year with a prize parade! The event was full of excitement and energy, with the district leadership team, campus administration, the Argyle Education Foundation, school board members, drumline, cheerleaders, and Edie the Eagle mascot coming together to surprise each teacher with a parade through the halls of their campus that led straight to their classroom door.

During the parade, teachers were greeted with cheers and applause from students and fellow colleagues as they received checks from Pogue Construction, the title sponsor, as well as generous contributions from the Argyle Education Foundation. Jostens also played a significant role by custom-fitting our teachers with personalized rings, commemorating this amazing

achievement. Additionally, an Argyle swag basket, sponsored by our District Eagle Partners, and beautiful flowers from Eagle Partner Argyle Party & Gift added to the recognition.

This celebration not only acknowledges the hard work and dedication of our exceptional teachers but also serves as an example of the supportive community within Argyle ISD. At the End-of-the-Year Staff Celebration, one elementary and one secondary teacher will be announced and selected to represent the district in the competition for regional teacher of the year.

Congratulations to all of our teachers of the year! Your commitment and passion for education make an incredible impact on the lives of our students, families, and employees. Thank you for your passion and dedication to our Eagles to ensure their continued success.

Welcome Mrs. Knowles New AHS Principal

The Argyle ISD Board of Trustees approved Shannon Knowles as the next Argyle High School Principal during the March 25 Regular School Board meeting.

Mrs. Knowles joins AISD after serving as the Flower Mound High School Associate Principal since 2017. She has more than 25 years of experience in public education and served 15 combined years in leadership roles in Lewisville ISD. Before joining Flower Mound High School, Knowles was a teacher and athletic coordinator in LISD.

She is a results-driven leader with a successful history of fostering relationships in positive learning environments. Mrs. Knowles is also a member of the community and an Argyle ISD parent.

“We are very excited to have Mrs. Knowles join our Eagle leadership team,” Argyle ISD Superintendent Dr. Courtney Carpenter said. “She is an exceptional leader who brings valuable career experiences and knowledge of the Argyle ISD culture to the position. Mrs. Knowles has been an Eagle for many years and is deeply invested in her commitment to seeing our students soar.”

While serving at FMHS, Mrs. Knowles oversaw Athletics, Cheer, Performing Arts, UIL Academics, Special Education, Foreign Language, and Student Council. Additionally, she led and organized content-level Professional Learning Communities. Mrs. Knowles also has experience as a special education teacher and coach.

“I am honored and thrilled to be named

the new principal of Argyle High School,” Mrs. Knowles said.

“Having been a part of this community for the past eight years as a parent, I am deeply committed to continuing the tradition of excellence and fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. I am eager to join the incredible team at Argyle High School and work together to achieve great things for our students.”

Mrs. Knowles’ daughter currently attends Argyle High School, and her son graduated in 2023.

Mrs. Knowles started her career in education in 1999 as a teacher/coach at Haltom High School. She has also served at Birdville High School, Coppell ISD, and Troup ISD.

She replaces John King, who will be retiring at the end of the school year after serving as AHS Principal for six years.

Mrs. Knowles is a graduate of Midwestern State University and has a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Lamar

ROBYN CAMPBELL NEW HILLTOP ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL

TMrs. Campbell replaces Dona Lumsden, who will transition to Principal of Argyle Middle School starting in the 2024-2025 school year.

he Argyle ISD Board of Trustees approved Robyn Campbell as the next Hilltop Elementary Principal during the School Board meeting on Monday, April 15, 2024. Campbell brings a wealth of public education experience as a teacher and administrator at the elementary level. For the last 11 years, she has been the Principal at Bernice Chatman Freeman Elementary, including a Spark STEM Academy, within Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, accumulating 23 years of service within CFBISD. and professional development. She also launched the first full-day PreKindergarten program in the district, which served qualifying and tuition-based students.

“This is an exciting day for Hilltop Elementary and Argyle ISD,” Argyle ISD Superintendent Dr. Courtney Carpenter said. “Mrs. Campbell brings valuable experience as an excellent instructional leader focused on growing students and supporting teachers. Our district leadership team will benefit from her elementary school-level coaching and planning expertise, and we look forward to introducing her to the Hilltop community.”

Since 2001, Mrs. Campbell has served in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, holding Assistant Principal positions at two elementary campuses before advancing to her current position. She has excelled in CFBISD in relationship building, coaching, and strategic planning.

She started her educational career in 2001 as a third-grade teacher at Davis Elementary in CFBISD. Mrs. Campbell served as team leader for four years, coaching, mentoring, and leading teams with campus and district achievement goals.

“I am deeply honored to join the Hilltop Elementary family and community,” Campbell said. “With a rich history of excellence, I am excited to contribute to this legacy by leading with vision, inspiration and collaboration. Together, I am thrilled about the opportunity to build upon the strong foundation of success and innovation that defines Hilltop and Argyle ISD. My vision is to combine history and tradition with future success for all students and families.”

Campbell graduated from Angelo State University in San Angelo and earned her Masters of Educational Leadership at SMU.

Hilltop Elementary hosted a community Meet & Greet for the new principal on May 7. She will officially start her new role on July 19.

Robyn and her husband, Scott, have a six-year-old son, Colt Campbell. They enjoy all things outdoors, traveling, and watching live sports events at all levels.

incredible TOTAL-ly Experience

Campuses across Argyle ISD went outside on Monday, April 8, with their solar viewing glasses to watch something they will never forget!

The excitement and fun of his unique learning experience of a total solar eclipse was amazing. Classes, teachers, and staff across the district took a moment to step outside to witness history as the clouds in our area cleared enough for the viewing to be possible.

Leading up to and following the eclipse event, students engaged in various educational activities to learn about the science and significance of solar eclipses. Parents were told specifics on these activities and when their eclipse-watching began.

SPECIAL OLYMPIC ATHLETES

We are so proud of our outstanding Argyle ISD Special Olympic athletes! In April, these amazing Eagles traveled down the road to Southlake to compete in the Dragon Dash at Carroll Middle School. They did a tremendous job competing in all the events including the 400-meter run, long jump, shot put and so much more! And they also loved that memorable time together sharing a lunch on the field!

The Eagles Powerlifting team recently delivered a remarkable performance at the state meet, making a lasting impression!

Aaron Gomez, competing in the 198-pound division, secured an impressive 2nd place with a total of 1,830 lbs and earned the title of BEST BENCH in the heavyweight divisions, setting State Records with all three of his bench attempts - 515 lbs, 550 lbs, and 585 lbs!

John Hurt also excelled in the 242-pound division, achieving

two Personal Records on his way to a total of 1,465 lbs, a significant accomplishment.

Additionally, Thor Johannson, a distinguished 4-year letterman, reached a milestone by winning the THSPA Scholarship, becoming the first-ever Argyle High School student to receive this honor!

Congratulations to the Argyle ISD Soaring Star of February, Argyle Middle School Counselor, Mrs. Holly Burleson.

This is Mrs. Burleson's second year as a counselor at AMS and her sixth year in counseling. Those that nominated her say Mrs. Burleson goes above and beyond! She is the definition of the core value "respectful relationships." She is so intentional with 8th grade scheduling and places each kid in the best learning environment possible! When teachers bring her concerns about students, she springs into action to make the AMS community stronger and to cultivate positive relationships.

Thank you, Mrs. Burleson, for always making an impact in your students' lives and for continuing to Soar Higher!

Congratulations to the Argyle ISD Soaring Star of January, Mrs. Abby Nelson, Special Education Math Teacher at the Sixth Grade Center.

Mrs. Nelson has been an educator in Argyle ISD for over 20 years. Those that nominated her say that Mrs. Nelson works diligently to make sure her students are successful not only in the classroom but in the real world as well. She goes above and beyond to meet her students where they are and ensures they progress and grow. She is one of the kindest and most compassionate teachers with such a big heart for kids.

She supports her fellow teachers as well. She takes new staff members under her wing and makes sure they feel warm and welcome in the SGC family. We appreciate Mrs. Nelson and everything she does for our Eagles!

Congratulations to the Argyle ISD Soaring Star of March, Argyle West Fifth Grade Teacher Mrs. Connie Mikla. In her third year at Argyle West Elementary, Mrs. Mikla stands out for her remarkable teaching approach. Nominated by four of her own students,

they affectionately describe her as having a "special ability that makes learning fun and makes us all feel like part of one big family."

Thank you, Mrs. Mikla, for always making an impact in students' lives and for continuing to Soar Higher!

Argyle High School Law Enforcement Classes

EXPERIENCE HANDS-ON LEARNING

The Argyle High School CTE Law Enforcement classes recently engaged in a dynamic simulated felony traffic stop, featuring two squad cars and the invaluable support of Chief Davis from Argyle ISD PD, Chief Jackson from Argyle PD, alongside officers from Flower Mound PD, and Denton County Constables.

This hands-on exercise provided students with a unique opportunity to interact with and receive feedback from seasoned Law Enforcement Officers, putting their classroom knowledge into action. Throughout the scenario, students practiced their safety protocols, and demonstrated proper handling of potentially dangerous situations, all while grasping the vital lesson of teamwork in law enforcement operations.

Recognizing Dedication and Community Impact!

Huge congratulations to the graduating members of the Eagle Ambassadors program! At the regular school board meeting on April 15, Argyle ISD proudly recognized and celebrated 32 Eagle Ambassadors for their outstanding dedication to the program and our district.

These amazing individuals fulfilled all graduation requirements, from attending monthly meetings to actively representing the district in the community. The district launched the program

Land vision of new AISD Superintendent Dr. Courtney Carpenter on Sept. 20, 2023. The program was created to help inform, engage and collaborate with Eagle parents and community members and provide them with valuable district-wide information.

We recently invited our district’s Silver Eagles for an inside look at our schools and what they offer to students. The meeting started with a presentation of Bond 2024 by Superintendent Dr. Courtney Carpenter and CFO Liz Stewart. Rich McDowell, Jen De La Porte, and students Jonah

Bird and Laiken Zamzow also shared their experiences serving on the Bond & Growth Planning Committee.

After learning the details and a Q&A session regarding the upcoming Bond, the Silver Eagles loaded a school bus for a tour of the district’s 35 square miles, checking out each campus along the way.

Argyle ISD Hosts Big Turnout at REALTOR BREAKFAST

Argyle ISD recently hosted its second annual Realtor Breakfast for all of our amazing local real estate agents and other professionals from the real estate community. We welcomed over 50 attendees who joined us to talk about all of the latest updates within the district, the 10-year Strategic Plan, and the upcoming Bond 2024 program.

As our district continues to experience rapid growth, it’s essential to provide our Realtor community with accurate and relative information. This not only enhances their ability to serve clients effectively but also provides them with the knowledge needed to stay informed. By equipping our Realtors with the facts, we contribute to a stronger, more informed community where everyone can make well-informed decisions.

EAGLE PARTNER Appreciation Breakfast a Big Success

Argyle ISD recently hosted our Eagle Partner Appreciation Breakfast to express our sincere gratitude for our Eagle Partners and their unending support. Because of their dedication, our district can continue to empower our teachers and staff on a daily basis. Their involvement in our community goes beyond measure, making a real difference in the lives of our district’s community.
