The new elementary school in Canyon Falls will be officially named Argyle South Elementary. The school is on track to open in August 2022 with a capacity of 850 students.

We are so proud of our Theater Directors and the entire cast & crew of The Wizard of Oz. This was truly a district-wide event as Ms. Toomer and Ms. Reynolds incorporated students from every campus in the district into the play – and what a performance it was!

Kudos to everyone that had a hand in bringing this work of art to life in our brand new auditorium.

Also in January, our Varsity Cheer Squad competed in the Class 4A State Spirit Competition in Fort Worth. For the second year in a row, Argyle High School took home the silver medal, finishing as state runnerup. Congratulations to Coach Truebenbach, Coach Lemish, and our entire cheer squad on this huge accomplishment!

This February, Mr. Griswold and his Concert Choir will be performing at the prestigious Texas Music Educators Association Conference in San

Additionally, our UIL Academic Team will be competing for their record 15th state championship. We look forward to cheering on all of our students this spring.

With the spring semester well underway, we also begin to think about our seniors and their last semester on campus.

Graduation is set for May 19, 2022, at the University of North Texas Coliseum. We will have tons of activities planned for our seniors during the final week of class in May. We are proud of the Class of 2022 and the legacy they have left behind. I hope you and your student have a great spring semester.

AISD Celebrates Focus on Education Day On November 30th, 2021, Argyle ISD hosted its annual Focus on Education Day. Focus on Education day is an event dedicated to highlighting teachers, students and district supporters. This event started in recognition of School Priority Month which is a public education biennium event where school districts across Texas invite locally elected officials from every level of government to visit and experience firsthand the great work taking place in the public schools.

Levi Pabst - 11th Grade - 2nd Chair - 3rd Year All-Stater Aimee Gray - 11th Grade - 1st Chair - 2nd Year All-Stater We are also very excited to celebrate that on Feb. 10, the Argyle High School Concert Choir traveled to San Antonio to perform for the largest music educators state conference in the country, TMEA. This prestigious opportunity was awarded to only the best choirs throughout the state of Texas. This year only six high school choirs throughout the entire state were selected and the AHS Concert Choir was the only choir from Class 1A-4A school to be chosen. With this award came the honor of performing for more than 2,000 members of TMEA at the annual convention in San Antonio. Concert Choir began working on this program at the beginning of the school year and they were extremely excited to finally have the opportunity to perform.

Concert Choir gave three performances beginning on Jan. 25 at Flower Mound United Methodist Church and again on Feb. 1 at the Arlington ISD Center for Visual and Performing Arts. They capped off an incredible TMEA series with a heartfelt performance in San Antonio and received a raucous standing ovation from the crowd.

We can’t thank everyone enough for their support in traveling to TMEA this year. This kind of performance opportunity does not come very often. So many people rallied together to make this trip possible and we are so grateful to the Argyle ISD Administration, the Argyle Choir Booster Club, and the Argyle Choir parents for making this TMEA dream come true.

Remedy and Flight are so excited about our upcoming plans for the Spring 2022 semester! We have hit the ground running and our plans for studio recording, music videos, travel, and performances are beginning to come together.

Flight and Remedy both released brand new music on all streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, in December.

Flight’s debut single titled “Wonder” is energetic and authentic and features soloists Nathan Sotomayor and Mia Navarro. Flight is also working hard to prepare for their upcoming performances at the North Texas A Cappella Festival on Feb. 26 at Marcus High School. We are also excited because Flight will have the chance to go back into the recording studio this Spring and record their second single with the help of our producers at Viridian Productions.

Remedy released its third studio album titled “From the Ashes” featuring four songs that detail our journey as a group from a small town Texas start-up to becoming one of the most successful HS A Cappella groups in the country over the past 18 months. Continuing that success, Remedy is excited to announce that it has been selected to perform at the National A Cappella Convention in Orlando, FL in late March.

This convention features the 10 best HS A Cappella groups from around the country in a multi-million dollar performance venue.

We hope to see everyone at the North Texas A Cappella Festival on Feb. 26 as well as at our A Cappella Spring Show. Those dates will be announced soon! Thank you for supporting Music Education and the creative aspirations of our students!

Argyle MS Colorguard The Argyle Middle School Colorguard started their indoor competition season featuring their program “To Touch the Sky.” These students meet once a week and learn dance, along with flag choreography! Argyle Intermediate School Performance

Argyle Students Make All-Region Band Students in the Argyle Middle School Honor Winds auditioned for the TMEA Region 2 Band and had an excellent showing. Competing against the best students in the state from Lewisville, Denton, Northwest, and Lake Dallas ISDs, there were 30 students who earned a spot in this prestigious ensemble.

The Argyle Middle School Symphonic Band also had a great showing at this year’s ATSSB Region 2 Auditions. Students from smaller schools

Each section in the band demonstrated how their instrument sounds and looks, to give the 5th-grade students an idea of what instrument they wanted to play! These 5th-grade students will get to try the different instruments themselves as they begin their career in band going into 6th grade!

The Argyle Middle School band ended 2021 with a holiday celebration like no other! Playing for a packed house of parents, friends, and family, the Winter Concert was a huge success, first featuring the Beginner Band, followed by Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Honor Winds.

The AMS Beginner Band gave an amazing concert having had only a limited amount of instruction. Four months ago, these students knew nothing about their instruments but they managed to complete their semester with a full concert which was remarkable!

Each band had a selection of holiday music to entertain the crowd at the Argyle MS Auditorium. As is tradition with band concerts, students introduced the songs, giving a brief history of each song as well as instruction for the audience to listen for certain special musical selections!

BACK-TO-BACK:

Eagles Soar to Consecutive Band Titles The Argyle Eagle Band is now in a class all by itself.

In record-setting fashion, the Eagle Band won the University Interscholastic League Class 4A Marching Band State Championship on Nov. 10, 2021, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. This marked Argyle High School's eighth state championship which vaulted the Eagles to becoming the winningest band in state history regardless of classification.

"This is a testament to the generations of students, staff, administration, parents, and community that pour their love into the program." Argyle ISD Director of Bands Jason Bird said. "We are humbled to come home with the eighth state championship for the Argyle Band."

This also marked back-to-back state championships in consecutive school years for Argyle.

With the stakes at state the highest, Argyle's performances in San Antonio were flawless.

District Joins Town in Celebration of Arbor Day Unity Park added some significant new elements to its history during the fall.

Argyle ISD and the Town of Argyle partnered on Friday, Nov. 5 for the Arbor Day Tree Dedication. Four new trees were planted in Unity Park and a dedication was held and included students in attendance from nearby Argyle Intermediate School.

The ceremony also included the recognition of two AIS students who were honored for winning the Arbor Day art content.

Argyle ISD Superintendent Dr. Telena Wright, Argyle Mayor Bryan Livingston, and Argyle ISD School Board President Sam Slaton spoke during the ceremony. The four new trees were planted behind the outfield fence of the baseball field near the Crawford Road entrance to the park.

Gracie Hemmen won first place in the Arbor Day art contest and Luisa Neves Costa was second. Dr. Wright, Mayor Livingston, and Argyle ISD Administrative Assistant Yvolene McGarvey served as the judges.

We have started 2022 with a lot to celebrate at Argyle Intermediate! In January, the fifthgrade students had a chance to show what they know at the UIL competition hosted at AIS. Students competed in 11 different areas and brought home team wins in seven of the contests. This is great preparation for our students in the years to come. It was a day full of smiles, good sportsmanship, and best efforts.

We are very proud of their success, but we are more proud of their perseverance during preparation. They placed high expectations on themselves and worked hard to achieve their goals.

This year has continued to present new challenges for our school, district, and community, but this has not affected the enthusiasm and achievement of our students.

Students are excited to come to school every day. Parents often mention how eager their child is to come to school and what a happy place AIS is for their child. Our goal as a school community is to celebrate the growth and success of our students while providing a safe and comfortable environment. Every child is important at AIS and we live that through the decisions we make every day.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Hidden Figures On the sideline of a football game it is easy to not notice the many people working to help make sure the game is photographed and broadcasted. They work in the shadows, taking photos, recording the action for the live stream, and gathering quotes and information for articles, all to be published either instantly or later that night. These are the secret members of the Friday Night Lights who help make the game as good as it is. With over half a dozen photographers snapping photos for the yearbook and Talon News, the photos that are uploaded to give real-time score updates are vital to many who can’t attend in person. And without these photos for the yearbook, memories wouldn’t be able to live on. The broadcast team also is in charge of running a live stream of the

game for people to watch and is one of the highest quality streams in the state of Texas.

The photographers of the Argyle Yearbook, Talon, and social media are so vital to the game. Without pictures, the game wouldn’t be able to be seen by so many people, and a picture is always worth a thousand words, nothing can replicate the image of a player or a student-athlete. This is also giving students valuable real-world experience, to help with future jobs and careers. The photographers of Argyle are the secret heroes of the game.

Veterans Day at Argyle ISD As Argyle ISD opened the school year to visitors in 2021-2022 it allowed the campuses to return to celebrate our veterans.

Each campus held a Veterans Day celebration as the district honored those who serve and have served our country. The celebrations included a surprise reunion at Argyle West Elementary with parent and Army Nurse Cheyenne Frazier reuniting with her daughters Shire, Valyr, and Ayra after spending two months at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

After the last steps of the construction were complete, the Argyle Independent School District held an official ribboncutting ceremony for Argyle High School Phase II. Argyle High School and Argyle Middle School were part of a significant transition project during the summer. Both campuses switched locations and were ready for the start of the school year in August.

Phase II cost $65,850,000 and was part of the voter-approved 2017 bond proposal.

The high school campus serves students in grades 9-12 and includes the following new additions from the existing middle school:
