CHRISTMAS

LIGHT DISPLAYS to Usher in the Holidays

Whether you enjoy strolling through enchanting neighborhoods or driving through elaborate exhibits, here are five Christmas light displays bound to put you in the spirit of the season. by Craig Hewitt

THE LIGHT PARK

BARTONVILLE TREE

Little Elm Park | 701 W Eldorado Pkwy., Little Elm, TX 75068 TheLightPark.com

NW corner of McMakin Rd. & Barrington Hills Blvd. Bartonville, TX 76226

With locations in Little Elm, Frisco, and Arlington, the Light Park offers a spectacular, mile-long, drive-thru holiday experience with millions of LED lights and the world's longest light tunnel. Guests tune into DJ Polar Ice's festive radio mix inside their vehicles for a spectacular, synchronized sound and light show. Tickets start at $29.99 per vehicle, making it a family-friendly, affordable outing.

For over 15 years, Bartonville’s Barbara Nunneley has decorated a 150-year-old pecan tree on her property with 60,000 sparkling white lights, creating a spectacle that needs to be seen to be believed. A holiday memorial done in honor of her late father, the now famous Bartonville tree shines brightly against the backdrop of the blackened prairie, making it truly a sight to behold.

GIFT OF LIGHTS TEXAS Texas Motor Speedway | 3545 Lone Star Cir., Fort Worth, TX 76177 | GiftOfLightsTexas.com Imagine a glorious two-mile drive around the Texas Motor Speedway, basking in the glow of nearly three million Christmas lights harmoniously paired with festive Christmas music. Tickets are purchased per vehicle, making this a great value for families and groups. Open late November through early January, this holiday extravaganza has become a favorite for those near northern Fort Worth and Denton County seeking a dazzling drive-thru experience. CHRISTMAS IN GRAPEVINE 636 S. Main St., Grapevine, TX 76051 GoGrapevine.com/Christmas-in-Grapevine If you’re looking for a piece of the North Pole in the Lone Star State, look no further than Grapevine, the official Christmas capital of Texas. Beginning with the Carol of Lights on November 24, the historic Main Street of Grapevine will be adorned with festive decorations and twinkling lights on every corner, hosting over 1,400 holiday events in 40 days, including the Christmas Market, Santa’s North Pole Express, the Peace Plaza Ice Rink, and ICE! at the Gaylord Texas.

VITRUVIAN LIGHTS Vitruvian Park | 3815 Spring Valley Rd., Addison, TX 75001 VisitAddison.com/Events/Vitruvian-Park Vitruvian Park transforms into a shining wintry wonderland with thousands of LED lights and artistic displays. Open from late November to early January, visitors enjoy festive photo ops and family-friendly ambience. Although entry is free, parking will set you back $15, but the park’s easy access for families makes it a worthwhile investment for a quick holiday outing.

enton County is home to a rich network of nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to uplift neighbors, stabilize families, and strengthen communities — from providing emergency food and safe housing to mentoring youth and supporting those overcoming hardship. Bundle Smart & Buckle Safe This Winter Your Winter Car Seat Safety Reminder

I

by Dr. Rebecca Butler, Board Certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics

t is finally getting cold here in North Texas. It’s the perfect weather for those cozy family gatherings. Let’s keep everyone safe and healthy, and let’s start with a reminder about car seat safety. Please remember that children should not be wearing puffy coats and clothing when strapped into their car seats. Winter wear puts too much space between the car seat restraints and the child’s body. In the event of a collision the fluffy padding with flatten out and free up space that may allow the child to slip right through the restraints and be thrown from their seat. It’s best to dress the kids in thin snug layers with a warm hat and mittens and avoid putting on those bulky coats until arriving at your destination. Tighten the seat harness as snug as possible. If you can pinch slack on the straps of the harness, then it needs to be tighter. You can then place a blanket or winter coat over the top of the harness straps if necessary. Give yourself plenty of time to head out the door for cold winter outings. Warm the vehicle up ahead of time and consider storing the carrier portion of the infant seat inside the house where it can stay nice and warm. It’s great to have an emergency vehicle bag with extra blankets, dry clothing, hats, gloves, water, and nonperishable snacks in case of emergency.

QUIET CHIC

Exploring 2025's Winter Fashion Trends

W

by Murray Media

inter 2025/2026 is bringing a wave of polished, cozy sophistication to fashion style — an aesthetic perfectly suited for anyone who wants to stay warm while looking effortlessly refined. This season’s trends lean into elevated comfort, understated luxury, and thoughtful details that make everyday outfits feel special without ever appearing flashy. Outerwear is the true hero of the winter wardrobe. Tailored wool coats in rich camel, deep charcoal, and winter white are everywhere, often featuring subtle wrap belts or structured shoulders that create a flattering, modern shape. Shearling is also resurging, with mid-length styles offering both warmth and a touch of indulgence — ideal for everything from coffee runs to a nice dinner. Knitwear continues its reign, but with fresh updates. Expect ribbed cashmere sets, mock-neck sweaters with sculpted sleeves, and longline cardigans that layer beautifully under coats. Soft, muted color palettes — sage, oatmeal, slate blue — are defining the season, making pieces easy to mix and match while still feeling sophisticated. 14 | 35 WEST MAGAZINE

| ISSUE 12 | DEC 19 - JAN 16, 2026

Bottoms are embracing comfort-driven tailoring. Wide-leg trousers in wool-blend fabrics, soft pleated pants, and sleek knit midi skirts create effortless silhouettes that transition seamlessly from daytime errands to evening gatherings. Paired with knee-high boots or leather loafers, the result is practical yet polished. Accessories this winter lean into minimal, intentional design. Oversized scarves, chunky gold or brushed metal jewelry, and structured top-handle bags offer subtle elegance. Even cold-weather essentials — like leather gloves and faux-fur earmuffs — are getting a chic upgrade. The overarching theme? This winter is all about “quiet chic” — an approach that favors quality, longevity, and personal style over loud trends. It’s the perfect season to invest in timeless pieces that feel cozy, confident, and effortlessly elevated. LiveLocalMagazines.com

HOLIDAY

ROM-COMS g i e l S t ha

By Ali Paraskevopoulos

Tis the Season of Hot Chocolate & Holiday Movies!

C

hristmas films are one of the most nostalgic parts of the holidays and have always been one of my favorite traditions. From watching “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (the Boris Karloff version) on Christmas Eve to forcing my family to sit through “Die Hard” and “Olive, the Other Reindeer” on Christmas day, holiday films always bring the spirit. The new age of holiday “Hallmark-style” rom-coms is spreading like wildfire, with so many new releases every year on every platform. HERE IS A LIST OF 10 HOLIDAY ROM-COMS THAT ALWAYS “SLEIGH.”

A Merry Little Ex-Mas

Starting off with a new Netflix release, “A Merry Little Ex-Mas” follows a recently divorced (or “consciously uncoupled”) pair and their young adult children as they navigate celebrating Christmas a little differently this year. Kate (Alicia Silverstone), our leading lady, always dreamed of being an environmentally friendly architect, and she’s starting to question whether she likes living in her now ex-husband’s small town anymore. Meanwhile Everett, said ex, is ready to shift some holiday traditions toward his new girlfriend. As they passive-aggressively co-parent their way through the holidays, they slowly relearn how to accommodate each other and the new people in their lives.

long, but the two grow closer while helping put together a children’s Christmas play. It’s full of familiar ideas but still packs some twists, even if you can guess the ending from the first five minutes.

Something From Tiffany’s

Switching over to Amazon Prime, “Something From Tiffany’s” follows two men who visit the same jewelry store right before Christmas for very different reasons — one is buying an engagement ring, the other is just looking for something pretty for his girlfriend. When their gifts accidentally get swapped, their relationships and holiday plans get tangled up. The mix-up pushes everyone to confront what they really want, and who they really want it with.

Hot Frosty

Another Netflix original from 2024, “Hot Frosty” mixes the classic Frosty the Snowman idea with a modern Christmas rom-com. Kathy, a widow in a small town, is constantly focused on everyone except herself until an oddly attractive snowman comes to life, starts taking care of her, and gently reminds her she deserves a little warmth too. It’s weird, it’s cute, and it’s very on-brand.

Single All the Way

This Netflix film follows a newly single, Peter, who asks his best friend Nick to pose as his boyfriend for his family’s Christmas. The fake dating doesn’t last

LiveLocalMagazines.com

One of the most iconic Christmas rom-coms out there. “The Holiday” follows Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as they escape their messy lives by swapping houses for Christmas. In the process, they fall into new romances with Jude Law and Jack Black. It’s charming, cozy, and gives you just the right amount of cheesy holiday magic.

A Christmas Prince

A classic Netflix original that’s fun for the whole family. Amber, a small-town reporter, travels to the kingdom of Aldovia to get the inside scoop on the soon-to-be king, Richard. After a little bit of rule-bending to meet him, the two end up forming a very real connection. With two sequels available, you can keep the fairytale going long after the credits roll.

When Harry Met Sally

A classic rom com that I’d say counts as a holiday movie — think New Years. This film follows Harry and Sally (hence the name) through many years of falling in and out of each other’s lives. This brings the nostalgia while also providing the quintessential friends-to-lovers storyline you’re sure to enjoy.

Love Hard

A very modern holiday rom-com centered around online dating and the embellishments that come with it. When Natalie travels across the country to surprise Josh for Christmas, she quickly realizes he’s not exactly who she thought he was. Josh convinces her to stick around and help him with his family by pretending to be his girlfriend, and the classic fake-dating trope leads to real feelings (as it usually does) that go beyond curated photos and clever text messages.

The Holiday

Last Christmas

The Happiest Season

A Hulu original that follows Abby and her girlfriend Harper as they head to spend Christmas with Harper’s Family with Abby planning to propose. What Abby doesn’t know, Harper’s family has no idea she’s gay. Forced to pretend they’re just roommates while staying under the same roof, the pair has to survive the pressure of holiday expectations, small-town gossip, and Harper’s picture-perfect family. With Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Dan Levy, Aubrey Plaza, and more, this movie is heartfelt, chaotic, and a little bit of a tearjerker.

Starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding, this film blends holiday romance with a touch of magical realism. Kate is stuck in a rough patch when she meets Tom, a too-good-to-be-true stranger who helps her rediscover joy during the holidays. It’s heartwarming, a little heartbreaking, and definitely one you’ll think about afterward. Holiday rom-coms might be cheesy, predictable, and full of the same tropes — but honestly, that’s what makes them perfect. They’re warm, comforting, and always there when the weather (or your schedule) gets a little too chaotic. So grab some hot chocolate, curl up under your favorite blanket, and let these films sleigh their way into your holiday season.

Lamb How to Feed a Loon

lollipops

Recipe and photos by Kris Longwell and Wesley Loon of HowToFeedaLoon.com

The Italian name for these lamb chops is “scottadito” which means “scorches the finger.” Quite literally, they are so tempting and so delicious that you can’t wait to pick them up to eat them, even when they are piping hot! Ask your butcher for 3 racks of lamb and have them frenched and cut into chops or lollipops. Then be sure to trim all but a very thin layer of fat. We absolutely love grilled lamb lollipops, but a good hot cast-iron skillet works perfectly, too.

Ingredients

3 racks lamb frenched, cut into chops, and trimmed of all but thin layer of fat Coarse sea salt and freshly ground pepper or Kosher salt 3 cloves garlic minced 1 tablespoon rosemary fresh, chopped 1 tablespoon thyme fresh, chopped ¼ cup olive oil 1 lemon cut into wedges

Instructions

1. Liberally sprinkle the chops with salt and pepper. 2. In a small bowl, combine the garlic, rosemary, thyme, and salt. Add the oil and whisk until combined. 3. Pour the marinade over the chops and turn to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours, or overnight. 4. Heat a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat, or turn your grill on medium-high heat for direct heat grilling. 5. Sear the chops (in batches if using a hot skillet) until browned on both sides, about a total of 4 to 5 minutes for medium to medium-rare. 6. Transfer to a platter and squeeze a lemon wedge over the top. Sprinkle with a little more sea salt, if desired.

Serve at once & enjoy!

Believe it or not, making the New Year bright could be as simple as beginning with a smile.

We are brimming with ways to help you achieve that goal with different ways to improve your look and health beyond the typical methods of straightening your teeth and whitening your smile. As our patients know, our office boasts the latest technology and advancements that make improving your dental health comfortable and predictable. Your smile, like your health, is undoubtedly an invaluable quality to your state of being. And like so many resolutions, sometimes dental care can easily fall to the wayside. To curb that, we use the current advancements in digital technology and software, along with thorough planning, to create a smile that is not only efficient but predictable. Your individual goals can be accomplished through treatment as simple as a cleaning with whitening or can be multifactorial by incorporating cosmetic, orthodontic, or even implant dental treatment. So, as the Holidays and New Year bring new campaigns of exercise regimens and steadfast dietary choices, these newfound determinations should be met with tenacity, enthusiasm, and, most of all, a smile!
