Feasibility surveys

Conducts pre-surveys of road corridors to assess feasibility for future pipeline, cabling projects and wind turbine route planning.

Multiple surveys

Combine topographical (TOPO) and utility surveys simultaneously using mobile mapping technology in conjunction with RAPTOR (GPR system). This integrated approach provides a quick and discreet survey process.

Road condition surveys

Offers a defect detection survey to road authorities in the UK, Ireland, and Europe. This survey can be conducted using AI algorithms supporting automatic options, allowing for efficient identification and assessment of road conditions.

Add value with Geo Drive Mobile Mapping

Infrastructure

As our existing infrastructure ages, the maintenance and monitoring of assets using accurate geospatial data is crucial in minimising delays and disruption to the public and reducing the likelihood of project overspend. This data empowers asset owners to make informed decisions, ensuring the longevity and efficiency of their infrastructure assets.

Construction

Geo Drive Mobile Mapping can offer precondition surveys before construction projects begin. Precondition surveys capture photographic evidence of the roads’ current condition before construction begins to provide a baseline for comparison at the project’s conclusion. The survey can address potential complaints or charges related to road damage caused by construction traffic. The documentation of road conditions serves as a proactive measure to reduce risk and provide evidence for any issues that may arise during or after the construction phase.

Utilities

For infrastructure which focus on the distribution of power and utilities, above and below ground, it’s fundamental to ensure that design, construction, maintenance, retrofitting and asset management can be carried out without any adverse effects on essential services. Geo Drive Mobile Mapping works in conjunction with GPR technology to allow you to assess underground assets over large areas.

Energy

Geo Drive Mobile Mapping can provide essential information for planning and designing energy networks, such as oil, gas, and renewables. This helps optimise routing, assess feasibility, and ensure accurate placement, reducing the risk of service disruptions and improving efficiency in operations.

Topographical

We believe that a topographical survey is fundamental to all property and land management, whether it be for design, development or even maintenance of assets.

Topographical surveys capture and illustrate ground features and conditions which frequently inform the design and planning stages of projects. This data can also be used throughout the project lifecycle for verification once a project is complete and form the basis of all legacy data for facility maintenance.

Whether you’re trying to understand the surface geography of a greenfield site ahead of detailed design on a construction project, understand the future position of a high-speed railway line, or establish control points for the installation of a new sewer or bridge, our surveyors can give you the confidence you require to proceed with your development.

We employ the latest and most cost-efficient technologies to deliver your scheme data, including:

Our fleet of remote piloted aircraft provide rapid, affordable, non-intrusive and efficient routes to topographical data in environments where traditional tripod-based techniques would not be possible, cost-effective or accessible. Depending on the size, environment, and ecology of the site, we have several aircraft and sensors to employ, to ensure the data is delivered as expected during our technical workshops with the client.

Our results

Geo Drive Mobile Mapping

Motorway Junction Survey Project –M18 Junctions 13 and 14, Ireland

Murphy Geospatial completed a motorway junction survey for the Colas Joint Venture, focusing on junctions 13 and 14 of the M18 motorway. Using advanced Geo Drive Mobile Mapping technology and ground surveys, the project produced detailed topographical drawings of the double carriageway and associated infrastructure, including bridges, roundabouts, and slip roads. The integration of mobile mapping and ground control points ensured high accuracy within 10 mm while minimising traffic disruption. This approach reduced costs, enhanced safety, and delivered precise, actionable data to support infrastructure maintenance and planning.

Highway Asset Management –M6 motorway, England

Our team used Geo Drive Mobile Mapping technology to support highway asset management along a 20km stretch of the M6 motorway. Employing the Geo Drive Mobile Mapping system, the project captured precise LiDAR data and panoramic imagery at traffic speed, avoiding road closures and minimising disruption. The data, processed and integrated into GIS platforms, produced an accurate geodatabase of road signage and other infrastructure. This efficient and safe approach not only enhanced data accuracy and accessibility but also provided comprehensive insights to support Intelligent Transport System (ITS) applications and infrastructure management.

Topographical surveys

HS2 C1 –Denham Buckinghamshire, England

The HS2 C1 project in Denham, Buckinghamshire, involves surveying approximately 3,200,000m2 over nearly 6km along the viaduct route. Murphy Geospatial’s role was to conduct comprehensive aerial surveys providing 2D and 3D data outputs. These surveys help monitor project progress over time, ensuring safety and efficiency without halting active work. By capturing data consistently, sometimes twice a month, the surveys offer valuable insights into the project’s development. To achieve the highest accuracy, we utilised a network of over 200 ground control points. This innovative approach ensured precise and reliable data collection, supporting the HS2 C1 project’s infrastructure goals while maintaining operational continuity and safety.

Metrolink –Dublin, Ireland

The Metrolink Project, connecting Charlemont station on the Luas Greenline through Dublin city centre to Dublin Airport and Lissenhall, required a comprehensive digital representation of its proposed route. The Murphy Geospatial team was engaged in the planning and design stage to provide this crucial digital survey. The survey covered 320 hectares of city centre and urban environments, as well as 42 hectares of rural and suburban areas. Utilising advanced surveying techniques, Murphy Geospatial delivered precise data to support the project’s development. This digital representation facilitated informed decision-making and planning for the Metrolink Project, ensuring accurate and detailed insights into both urban and rural sections of the proposed route.
