Muriel Brown

About Me

My name is Muriel Brown, and I graduated with an Interior Design AAS degree from Kirkwood Community College. To me, interior design is the art of connecting the user to the space. Creating beautiful spaces that positively affect someone’s emotions and experience is what excites me most about pursuing this career.

Hella’s Haven

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

“Bjorn and Elvia would want you to do everything- from a smaller 2-3 bedroom floor plan from an online website (of course built with local design/architectural styles- not like what we would do here in the US) to all materials and finishes, and all furniture! Of course they want to source products from that region and I thought you would do a great job at that! They aren't very specific, but Elvia did talk a lot about her love for all of the very clean lines, concrete, simplicity of architecture and clean cabin aesthetics. They desire a very modern Danish aesthetic and hope that you would be able to interpret their design interests. When they are in Hella, Iceland they like to visit glaciers, watch the Northern Lights, and cozy up in front of a fire. Their end goal is to also use this home as an AirBnB when they are not staying there themselves so they would like help with branding.”

DESIGN STATEMENT:

The concept for Hella’s Haven is to embody understated luxury while celebrating the breathtaking natural surroundings We envision a design that harmoniously blends simplicity and sophistication, creating a serene retreat that prioritizes the beauty of the outdoors With clean lines, minimalist aesthetics, and luxurious touches, the interior spaces will exude a sense of tranquility and refinement Natural materials such as wood, stone, and Icelandic wool will be thoughtfully incorporated to evoke a connection to the rugged landscape and create a warm, inviting atmosphere

Moorman Oasis

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

After lots of consideration, the Moorman’s are making the big move to Florida. Now, Jillissa and Brooks, along with their four children, are looking to design their forever home. As a family of 6, they already need plenty of space. However, they also love to host and require space in their new home to do so. The Moorman’s asked me to help them with their spacious, 8,899 sq/ft home, designing with an emphasis on coziness and sophistication.

DESIGN STATEMENT:

With the concept of 'Changing of the Tides', our design vision is to capture the essence of the ocean ' s diverse elements within the home's spaces. Drawing inspiration from the rugged beauty of coastal landscapes, we will infuse the interiors with materials and finishes reminiscent of driftwood, seaweed, and the intricate patterns left by the tide. Textures will mirror the smoothness of pebbles scattered along the shoreline, while colors will reflect the depth and richness of ocean hues.

This floor includes the primary bedroom, office, library, sitting room, kitchen, living room, dining room, a powder room, and bedroom 2

The selections for the first floor were chosen to depict the concept of the ocean ’ s elements, while sticking to the clients wishes of coziness and sophistication.

Steelcase NEXT Office

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

NEXT is a progressive and global architecture and interior design firm based in Los Angeles, California. They have now decided to create an office in Dallas, and have asked me for interior design guidance. They want a progressive, sustainable office that has both flex work spaces and private offices.

DESIGN STATEMENT:

Inspired by the nurturing essence of Mother Earth, our office design concept is centered around fostering a welcoming and harmonious workspace Drawing from the earth's palette, we incorporate warm, grounding tones reminiscent of natural elements to create a serene and inviting atmosphere. Through thoughtfully selected fixtures and furnishings that reflect the organic textures and fluid forms found in nature, we aim to cultivate a space that promotes productivity, creativity, and well-being, allowing employees to thrive in a tranquil yet dynamic environment.
