Juniors - Updates For 2023

Munster Schools Tennis is currently underway, and we have seen a large increase in schools entries. 36 more teams have entered which equates to an extra 144 Juniors playing Tennis in Munster.

Rules & Regulations

The Tennis Ireland Rules & Regulations were last published on Tennis Ireland website in 2017 and the competition team, headed by Simon McFarland, are working on standardising all tournaments to provide consistency across the whole Island.

These new rules are to go to the National governance committee and Tennis Ireland board for approval this month. This will hopefully assist voluntary club committees in the effective running of Junior Tour events.

World Tennis Number

World Tennis Number has been a hot topic for our junior parents this year. The WTN is a rating system that is still being developed in conjunction with the ITF.

Tennis Ireland reported some anomalies to the ITF in a few different areas. The ITF are currently working to make the system better for the future.

Tennis Ireland will not adopt the WTN for seeding in tournaments until it is fully ready and after

analysing all developments.

We hope to update everyone later this year on these developments as they happen.

Interprovincial Dates

Under 18s - 7th & 8th August

Hosted by Ulster Tennis & Under 14s - 9th & 10th September

Hosted by Connacht Tennis

Updated Selection Criteria for Interprovinical Team Selection will be published once a new Junior Performance Committee is formed after the AGM.

Munster / Connacht Junior League & South East Junior League

Discussions have taken place with Leinster Tennis and we hope to have some positive news in the coming weeks with regards to this new competition.

I want to thank all the clubs, coaches and parents who we have interreacted with this year .

We are listening and I hope more positive strides can be taken in Junior Tennis in Munster for 2023 onwards!
