system for Irish National Seniors Team selections adopted officially by Tennis Ireland earlier in the year which will be used for all Team selections for 2022.
It has been a very difficult year but as a Branch we were determined to help run as many of the normal events as we could to keep our sport moving forward and support the players.
Our sincere thanks and gratitude is extended to all at Catholic Institute Athletic Club for their generous support in facilitating this first Seniors Interprovincial Championships in Ireland. One I am sure we are all eagerly anticipating after a challenging time for us all.
This year, this event is particularly exciting as it is split in line with the “Young Seniors” age groupings. There is the new Over 30’s category and also for the first time we are running the event following the ITF World Championships format - two Singles and one Doubles, per tie. These changes help make these events a stepping stone to the Teams for the ITF World Championships. 2021 has also been very significant for Seniors Tennis with the National Rankings running for a full year for the first time, the National Close Championships running as two separate events and a comprehensive
We will be hosting this event in line with all current Covid protocols that may be in place, and we thank you all for adhering to the rules, regulations and guidance to ensure we can all enjoy a fabulous two days on and off court. I look forward to welcoming the players, captains and officials of the visiting Provinces to Limerick and us sharing in a fantastic Championships together. Robert M. Cummins President Munster Tennis

Founded in 1910, Catholic Institute Athletic Club (CIAC) is one of the oldest sporting institutions in Munster & Ireland. With eight all-weather artificial turf tennis courts, four squash courts, and a flood-lit hockey pitch, the club has a long and rich tradition in the Limerick area for promoting these sports, producing numerous international and interprovincial players. (Of recent note, two of its women’s hockey players -Roisin Upton & Naomi Carroll - were on the Irish national team that competed in the Tokyo Olympics.) Known for its welcoming, friendly atmosphere, the tennis club hosts two opens (The Limerick Senior Singles Open & The Limerick Senior Doubles Open) and has been the venue for the finals of several Munster Branch events. Its tennis members old and new enjoy the thriving men’s, women’s, and junior ladders, compete in annual club events such as the Spring Doubles, Club Championships, and Autumn Doubles, and socialize with other tennis clubs in frequent home or away friendlies. Catholic Institute teams at various levels regularly vie in (and sometimes win) the Munster Summer Cup and Winter League competitions.
