Instructor: Lisa Oristian This course is designed for the beginning-level student with no previous jewelrymaking experience. Students will learn, through demonstrations and projects, basic techniques including sawing, texturing, riveting, soldering, and bezel setting. Students can work in silver, copper and brass, which may be purchased at the reception desk.

MIXED MATERIALS JEWELRY - AA106-3

Instructor: Lisa Oristian This class will explore ways to incorporate unusual or unexpected materials into metal jewelry. Examples are plastic, resin, epoxy, aluminum, wood, paper, fabric, leather, etc.

Students are invited to bring in materials and found objects they would like to incorporate into their jewelry and class sessions will focus on design possibilities to make it work. This is a great opportunity for metals students to learn about cold connection, to explore ways to put color into their metal jewelry and to come up with ways to make their jewelry highly personal by incorporating personal artifacts into their work.

Beginning jewelry/metal arts experience required.

PHOTOGRAPHY - AA105-1

Instructor: Keith Sandman Beginning and intermediate students learn to process their own black and white or color photographs. Classes combine lectures, lab and critiques. Upon registration students must choose to work in either black and white or color.

BEGINNING DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY - AA120-1

Instructor: Keith Sandman This course is designed to help those wishing to advance their interest in the art of photography through the use of their digital camera, and the digital darkroom. Topics will include: learning to use the camera controls, improving shooting skills, optimizing the image using Photoshop, and making quality enlargements using inkjet printers. Some computer experience is helpful.

FIGURE DRAWING - AA101-2

Instructor: Annette Gurdo The study of human form is essential for every art student. This course emphasizes the interrelationship within the figure. Gestural drawing, contour drawing and other methods of recording the figure are the foundation of this course. A nude model will be used.

PAINTING - AA102-1

Instructor: Chris Cirillo This is a hands-on class that explores painting through practical applications and experiences that relate line, form, texture, and color, while also investigating how these visual relationships relate to the artist’s intentions and the meaning of the work. The projects will have some flexibility in order to accommodate both beginners and experienced painters.

Students who want this class to have an independent study structure will be accommodated.

The instructor will help each student with individual problem solving, along with brief lectures and critiques for the class as a group.

LANDSCAPE PAINTING - AA102-2

Instructor: Annette Gurdo Beginning and advanced students paint outdoor landscapes on location (weather permitting).

Painting demonstrations and individualized instruction are featured. Indoor studio lessons will be offered on rainy days.

Students must provide their own transportation for class field trips.

CLASSICAL PORTRAIT PAINTING and DRAWING - AA102-3

Instructor: David Cahill This class focuses on rendering the portrait stressing realism, achieving likeness and the proper use of light and shadow. This class stresses classical “Old Masters” style drawing and oil painting techniques similar to those used by portraitists such as Velázquez, Goya, van Dyck and Rembrandt.

Experience in painting & drawing is required.

MAKE A DIARY QUILT - AA200-1

Instructor: Linda Foote Create a life story in stitches using Mimi Dietrich’s “A Quilter’s Diary.” Each week we will explore traditional quilt blocks to stitch your life journey. Classes will cover appliqué, paper pieced, machine pieced, and embroidery for making 25 quilt blocks.

July 11 through August 4 A Summer Art Experience Just For Kids

Little artists bloom by enrolling in KidsArt Summer Fun designed to develop skills in art.

• Classes are held in School of Art studios and are taught by dedicated, enthusiastic instructors who respond to a child’s creative spirit. Instructors are available at the end of each session to discuss each child’s progress.

• These little artists will proudly display their creations at an exhibition and reception held in the School of Art Gallery at the conclusion of the program on Thursday, August 4.

• This summertime program is perfect for kids and their parents.

MINI MONET

- CA099-1/CA099-2 (Ages 4 and 5) Instructor: Stephanie Bevins Students will learn the basics in art such as cutting, pasting, shapes and colors, in a safe comfortable environment. Activities will include collage, sculpture, painting and drawing.

This class will also help children with social interaction through group activities.

Due to the same lesson plan each session, children may only enroll in ONE session each semester.

ARTBOX I - CA101-1 (Ages 6, 7, 8) Team-taught by Linda Foote and Lorey Zaman This program is divided into two classes. One class works for two weeks with Linda in painting and drawing, while the other class works in clay with Lorey.

At mid-morning, the students will have a 15-minute snack break under the supervision of the teacher.

(Please provide a snack for your child each day).

At the end of the first two weeks, the students who have been in painting and drawing class will switch to clay class and those who have been in clay class during the first two weeks will switch to painting and drawing class.

(Ages 9, 10, 11, 12) Team-taught by Paula Caruana and Sarah Kilian This program is divided into two classes. One class works for two weeks with Sarah in painting and drawing, while the other class works in sculptural media with Paula in the sculpture studio. At mid-morning, the students will have a 15-minute snack break under the supervision of the teacher. (Please provide a snack for your child each day).

Instructor: Sandra DeVisser This class is designed specifically for teenagers who want to grow creatively and explore the visual arts. Students spend four weeks with their classmates developing artistic abilities through creative instruction.

PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT: FOR GRADES 10, 11, 12 - TA102-1

Instructor: Francy Caprino This is a serious portfolio development course that will focus on building and improving drawing skills, an important criteria for art college admission. Students will work from the still life and figure (no nude models), as well as self-portrait. Instruction will cover line quality and gesture drawing, negative space exercises, proportion and measuring, texture and value. Students will explore a variety of media, including: ContĂŠ, charcoal, ink, gesso and collage. All students will receive a final review of their work and additional information to help them build a strong portfolio.

Summer Dance Classes SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE Classes for boys, girls, men and women are offered in six-week sessions in ballet, jazz and tap.

To accommodate family vacation schedules, classes missed may be made up in another class during the summer.

The instructors recommend that all dance students in Level 2 and above attend at least two classes weekly. Although classes are listed individually, students should take all classes offered in their level to make the maximum progress during the summer.

Summer is also a great time to try something different — be daring.

Returning students should also register for the same level they attended in the spring unless the instructor invites the student to advance.

New students are invited to discuss placement with the program coordinator. Please be advised that some changes may be made during the first week of classes.

Instructors include Nancy Long, Lynn Bollana, Debbie Evans, Kathy Ryan and Sharon Warncke.

NOTE: No multiple class discounts are offered in the summer. Students must have teacher approval to study at the Intermediate/Advanced levels. Please read the refund policy on the registration form.

Dance classes can be enjoyable and strenuous. If you have a question regarding your health, please consult your physician before registering for a dance class.

MATERIALS FOR ADULT ART CLASSES Students supply their own materials for painting and drawing. A fee is charged to cover the cost of some materials and equipment furnished by the School of Art in some classes.

MATERIALS FOR CHILDREN’S ART CLASSES Material fees are included in tuition for children’s classes. It is recommended that each child bring to class an old adult shirt to use as a smock.

CANCELLATIONS The School of Art reserves the right to cancel any class before its scheduled starting date.

All students registered in a canceled class will be notified, and a full refund of tuition (and lab fee, if any) will be mailed.

LOSS, THEFT, DAMAGE The School of Art cannot be responsible for loss, theft or damage of any student’s personal property or artwork. Student work that has been on exhibition must be collected by owners prior to the pickup deadlines specified; the School of Art cannot hold work beyond those dates.
