From Classical to Jazz you Pick the Set with Boston Brass he audience makes the selections as Concerts in the Court presents Boston Brass 8 p.m. Saturday, March 19.

This musical experience ranges from classical arrangements to burning jazz standards. The first half features members of Boston Brass presenting their most-loved virtuosic musical selections, incorporating captivating stories and insight on time-honored favorite dances, cantatas and marches.

Love and Passion, Heartbreak and Joy featured in Keyboard Conversations Saturday, April 2 • 8 p.m.

romantic episode of Jeffrey Siegel’s Keyboard Conversations© explores the passionate compositions of Robert Schumann, whose music was so often inspired by his love life, 8 p.m. Saturday, April 2 in the Museum of Art Auditorium. The program will include works of heartbreak and joy; novelettes, romances and variations on a melody of his beloved Clara.

The extremely popular Keyboard Conversations format offers listeners the opportunity to discover the influences that affected the creation of the music being presented. Mr. Siegel shares details about each composition that lead the audience to realize the subtleties and intricacies of these great works. The evening concludes with a session of questions and answers with Mr. Siegel.

The landscape acts as Leigh Yardley’s studio, where nature physically becomes part of her art. Rob Licht’s photographs capture his relationship with the land, and invite viewers to think about their own experiences with the places that help define us.

Manipulated Medium Friday, April 1, Noon Yvonne Buchanan and Chris Irick Yvonne Buchanan’s video installation uses manipulated images of winter, cold, and isolation to convey a deeper message while Chris Irick’s miniature bird sculptures (finely detailed jewelry) are manipulated into flight.

Meditation Walk and Tea

Explore and connect with the work in Elemental through a private meditative walk led by artist Moira Williams. Williams will lead an introspective walk with visual exercises, deep listening, breathing, and movement. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the artists’ intentions. The group will also create a shared response to the work in Elemental. Following the walk, enjoy herbal tea and sweet treats. Please wear comfortable and warm clothing along with cozy walking shoes for our low-impact walk. A short part of our walk will be outdoors.

Moira Williams creates participatory works that bring people together and explore the complexity of their community and the environment. Her performance-based work offers playfully diverse opportunities for shifts in authorship, making connections to one another, opening conversations and reciprocity.

Artist Studio Visit

Visit the private studio of Leigh Yardley, painter and installation artist who works closely within the landscape as part of its system. Recent projects include Convergence of Water, an investigation in the three watersheds that converge in Madison County, NY, and a residency at the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation in New Berlin.

Leigh has received NYSCA Leigh Yardley, Oriskany grants for community-based art projects and has trained with the Lincoln Center Teaching Artist Mentoring Project and Advance Seminar for Teaching Artists at the Guggenheim. She is an Adjunct Instructor of Art at Morrisville State College.

The Poetic Landscape: Just a Memory?

Friday, April 8, Noon Richard Barlow and Dorene Quinn

Through large-scale landscape drawings on chalkboard-paint walls, Richard Barlow’s work explores ways in which viewers connect with landscape images of imagined or real places. Dorene Quinn uses her work to warn of devastation to our natural landscapes through man’s destructive activities.

Art and Yoga takes place in a variety of the museum’s galleries. Each session begins with a 15-minute introduction to a work of art by Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Mary E. Murray, followed by one hour of yoga and meditation led by a certified yoga instructor. All levels of ability are welcome.

Studio Portraits + Lighting

Shoot portraits better than the rest! Learn how to stage and light a studio portrait in this intensive, one afternoon workshop. Participants will get hands-on practice with lighting variations, camera settings, background, angles, and composition. At the end of the session, students will have knowledge of the basic equipment needed to set up their own studio sessions.

Second Session Kids Classes Begin March 5

Kids love art classes at MWPAI! They use art to discover their learning potential, creating and having fun as they challenge and enhance their imaginations. In these classes, students experiment with clay, recycled materials, fibers, and drawing and painting to learn about texture, line and color. Daily classes are taught by dedicated, enthusiastic instructors who respond and encourage a child's creative spirit. et your children excited about reading with local author, Sandra Reilly’s charming children’s stories, now in the Museum Shop.

Sandra has been creating and telling stories to her children and grandchildren for many years. From scary stories around the campfire to heart-warming bedtime stories, she has instilled the belief in magic to many young minds.

Her goals are to get children to read but most importantly to see and feel the magic found within the pages. Discover the magical messages of friendship, family, and life lessons expressed within each story.

Sandra was born and raised in Utica, New York, and currently lives there with her husband Jeff. Her life, centered around family and friends, is full of magical times and magical food.

The cover art is done by Dominique Derminio, who is currently pursuing her doctorate in Chemistry and lives in Upstate New York.

Films are shown on Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted). All films are shown in 35mm format and BluRay digital cinema, with a state-of-the-art Dolby surround sound system. Comfortable seats give every patron an unobstructed view of our large screen.

Admission for all screenings is $8 for general admission and $6 for MWPAI Members. Admission for students with valid identification is $4 at all screenings.

Tickets are on sale 30 minutes prior to each screening.

Film Passbooks for discounted admission to 10 screenings are available for MWPAI Members for $55 and Non-Members for $75.
