Summer Community Education Classes and Workshops Registration is currently underway for Kids and Teen Community Education classes. This summer we are offering a variety of classes and for kids and teens drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, printmaking and more.

Kids and teen classes begin July 7.

In addition, a variety of workshops for adults will be offered in July.

An introduction to looking at art, this program emphasizes visual literacy through picture books and artwork in the Museum of Art. The approximately 45-minute program includes an interactive reading of two books, looking at art in the galleries, and a simple take-home project.

Nursery schools and preschool programs may schedule a similar program for their class by contacting Clare Fitzgerald at 315-797-0000, ext. 2170.

Sample fine craft beers paired with an abundance of delicious Dutch foods with Ms. Peter G. Rose, Brewery Ommegang, Cooperstown, and Utica’s Saranac Brewery. Ms. Rose, originally from the Netherlands, along with experts from each brewery, will offer personal and historical insights behind the pairings. If you have a passion for great beer, you will love this special tasting! Food prepared by Leaf Loaf & Ladle Catering. Designated drivers experience the same history and food, served with non-alcoholic beverages.

Matters of Taste: Food in Art and Art in Food 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Free Public Lecture Food historian and author Ms. Peter Rose will use paintings by Dutch Masters to demonstrate how artworks give insight into 17th-century food practices and how the Dutch, as the earliest settlers, left a lasting mark on the Hudson Valley and on America's kitchen. Ms. Rose is the author of several books on Dutch food history including Matters of Taste: Food and Drink Pieter Claesz. PrattMWP Pre-College Celebrate Accomplishments with Exhibition PrattMWP is welcoming more than 60 high school students to campus this summer for our Pre-College Program. This year PrattMWP is offering two different programs: a four-week program, where students earn four college credits and two one-week intensives in drawing, painting and sculpture and graphic design and illustration. Students are traveling from all over the country to live and learn as a PrattMWP college student.

The programs will be on-going throughout July, and a final exhibition will take place in the School of Art Gallery to celebrate the artists’ accomplishments.

Local “How-to” Book Available in the Gift Gallery

T

he Gift Gallery is pleased to offer a “how-to” book by local authors.Eleven local women have been meeting for the past five years to support each other in living more wholehearted, joyful lives. They called themselves the Juicy People Creativity & Camaraderie Club. They have just published the Creativity & Camaraderie Club Handbook: Have More Fun, Live More Wholeheartedly, Encourage Each Other.

This "how-to" handbook describes in detail how to start a creativity club of your own. The book celebrates a broad definition of creativity in six arenas of wholehearted creative interaction. The cover design has just won an award!

The Golden Age of European Painting

L

uxuriously festooned princesses, soldiers, kings, and clergymen, and gloriously detailed Dutch interiors and landscapes are depicted in the paintings in The Golden Age of European Painting. The exhibition showcases 70 major 17th- and 18th-century paintings by European masters Rembrandt, Rubens, Tiepolo, Gainsborough, Hogarth and others.

Highlighting work from Italy, France, Spain, Flanders, the Netherlands, Germany, and England, The Golden Age of European Painting offers a comprehensive exploration of an era of rich cultural, religious, and economic changes that radically transformed the world.

The Golden Age of European Painting has been organized by the Speed Art Museum, Louisville, Kentucky.

ut of the Vault features European woodcuts, etchings, and engravings dating from the late 15th through the early 19th century, and all from the Museum of Art’s collection. Artists include Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Peter Paul Rubens, Joshua Reynolds, and Francisco Goya, all of whom experimented with graphic arts to powerful effect. The exhibition will remain on view in Gallery 1 West through October 12.

Films are shown on Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) All films are shown in 35mm format and BluRay digital cinema, with a state-of-the-art Dolby surround sound system. Comfortable seats give every patron an unobstructed view of our large screen.

Admission for all screenings is $8 general admission and $6 for MWPAI Members. Admission for students with valid identification is $4 at all screenings. Tickets are on sale 30 minutes prior to each screening.
