Taconic™ Chair, 1993 Roscoe Award “Best American Chair”
Ihave always gravitated to things that are unique, understated and old. Many of my favorite furnishings have Scottish Arts + Crafts or Scandinavian roots. At 70, I still live with my grandmother’s sofa and my parents’ wedding chairs – timeless looking, refreshed with summer slipcovers, and built-to-last in an era when that was the definition of quality.
Years of research and lecturing on garden furniture design history are Munder-Skiles’ foundation. Our designs have grown from the archive I began collecting over 40 years ago while living in London. A modernist approach to living has been our guide – practical, unfussy, and natural feeling. Built-to-last, comfortable with minimal or no cushions, shapes and silhouettes that resonate 360º, made from durable materials and finishes that age beautifully.
This booklet includes projects of some of the top designers we have had the good fortune to collaborate with. Frequently, we have worked together to adapt pieces to a particular vision or to solve problems for outdoor spaces. Input from these industry colleagues has helped shape the Munder-Skiles collection and we are grateful for their support.
