INDIANA 2019-2020
Welcome to Indiana! We believe individuals are transformed through service to others. Applying service as a tool for personal growth, we help people discover their ability to bring about positive change, deliver the skills they need to do it well, and, by validating their impact, inspire them to do more. We’ve proven this continuum of activation, training, and recognition generates ripples of good. Founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft Jr., and Sam Beard, we are the largest multiplier of public service in America. Lately, it’s been hard to find a reason to celebrate, smile, and be hopeful, but for members of the Multiplying Good community, stories of kindness, generosity, and bravery have served as much needed reminders that service to others has the power to transform lives! At Multiplying Good, we work with young people to unleash confidence in their ability to make a difference and deliver the skills they need to do it well. We work with organizations to recognize their employees, resulting in happier and more productive workplaces and stronger communities. We work with the media to create more connected audiences and drive non-traditional revenue by recognizing grassroots unsung heroes in their communities. All together, we use the power of service to activate empathetic leaders and changemakers and inspire greater impact through recognition. It starts when one person realizes their true potential through service to others. Our programs and recognition platforms are designed to create a ripple effect of action - where those engaged in service to others are supported to do more and those around them are inspired to do something. As we share our accomplishments of this past year in the pages ahead, we are also excited about the even greater impact to come in 2020-2021.

STUDENTS IN ACTION Making a Lasting Impact Students In Action (SIA) is a unique, deeply supported 21st century skills-based service program. It helps both students and teachers implement a student-led, service learning curriculum in schools across the country. SIA teams receive deep levels of support and guidance from program managers within their community.
A Twofold Impact

The growth that we have experienced as a team and as individuals as part of SIA surpasses anything we ever expected. The first thing that has changed is our perception of our power. Coming into the club, we all thought service was a wonderful thing, but we did not realize how much we, as mere high schoolers, can do. Christel House Academy
Christel House Academy represented Indiana in the 2020 National Jefferson Award Ceremony. They did not let a pandemic and civil unrest stop them from serving their community. Their service projects focused on the environment and their schools reliance on Styrofoam and immigration because many of their students know firsthand what it means to be an immigrant or a first- generation U.S. Citizen.
CHAMPIONS Inspiring the Workplace Our diverse group of Champions are united by a shared belief in the value of public service. Corporate Champions activate and recognize their workforces and support vital youth service and leadership training. Investing in and elevating the individual is an investment in culture and productivity. Champions maximize the value of their commitment to employees and community.

After a terrifying childhood experience, Tracey Black overcame a fear of dogs by joining her local 4-H dog club. After completing 10 years in the program, she returned immediately as a volunteer leader. She is passionate about teaching youth participants how to train their dogs, as well as life skills such as compassion, negotiation, respect, responsibility, and teamwork. Tracey is an integral part of the program, as she also volunteers her time to complete paperwork, update the website, and answer emails. To honor her legacy, the club created an award for members who participate in volunteer work.
We are grateful to our Indiana Champions who enable us to multiply good! As a Champion organization, Multiplying Good really provides a national platform to take an individual from our staff to honor and award them. MEDIA PARTNERS Strengthening ties to the local community Media Partners identify unsung heroes in the community and tell their stories across various platforms. Honoring individuals with a Jefferson Award lifts up the community and all those within it. For over a decade our Indiana media partners, WRTV and Star City Broadcasting, have recognized America’s Unsung Heroes by honoring them with a Jefferson Award and providing a powerful platform to multiply good!
JEFFERSON AWARD RECIPIENT SPOTLIGHT: Katina Washington, CEO of S.H.E. In 2012, Katina started S.H.E. (She Has Everything) to help other women gain economic independence through starting their own businesses. Katina provides grants and scholarships as well as classes to help women keep their businesses open and relevant. Even when sheltering in place, Katina kept the mission going with networking workshops online. Katina hosts S.H.E. events where she has filled a vacant mall with booths and vendors selling unique, handcrafted, customized products. Proceeds from these events fund scholarships and grants for entrepreneurs and kid entrepreneurs. Katina is a catalyst for change, growing business, empowering women and kids, and growing the economy/dollars in the African American Community.
In this unprecedented year full of heartbreak and uncertainty, another constant was our humanity and our commitment to community in the new “normal.” Everyday we saw the best in people through their creativity and their desire to be Better and do Better. The Jefferson Award for Multiplying Good during the pandemic remained as relevant as ever highlighting the people in service to others. It’s evident that Hoosier hospitality found a way to survive, succeed, and shine. ONE IN A MILLION Celebrating Hoosiers Who Responded to Crises The One in a Million Awards campaign was created to celebrate the millions whose acts of bravery, generosity, and kindness brought our nation together in this time and, through recognition, inspire others to do the same. These are just a few of our brave One in a Million Hoosiers that were doing good in a crises!
Serving on the Board of Multiplying Good represents a “leveraged way” in which to give back to the local community. It is very rewarding to be part of an organization that is designed to promote volunteer and service activities so that the accomplishments made can then be “multiplied” in other areas. Serving on the Board allows you to provide input on ideas that give students tools that will empower them to be leaders, problem solvers and impactful citizens in the future. The groundwork of the student training is then put to use as the students develop and carryout their own service projects. But serving on the Board of Multiplying Good goes beyond youth and student activities. Multiplying Good encompasses all generations since the organization works with those in the public and private sector in promoting public service. The idea of sharing and promoting success stories in public service will go a long way in making sure that we are making our communities a better place to live.
