In 2022, the Events Portfolio rose to the challenge of setbacks of previous years and have organised a suite of incredibly enjoyable events for our members. The team, consisting of Events Director Lara Huby and Executive Officers (Socials) Annie Papageorgiou and India Vlotman, have been instrumental in reconnecting with Macquarie Law Students that have been displaced due to COVID restrictions. In the first half of the year, we have been able to hold a Law Ball, Start of Semester Drinks and Law Cruise which were all enormous successes. These fantastic events provide our members with a chance to socialise and connect with other students from all cohorts at Macquarie Law School.

Further, for the first time in three years, the Events team, supported by the Executive Council, held the MULS First Year Law Camp for students beginning their legal studies in 2022 at Macquarie. The First Years had an incredible time and we have particularly enjoyed their enthusiasm and engagement in subsequent events. It has been particularly special to connect with First Years after a number of years of disconnection due to COVID. Additionally, Sascha Gassman, Executive Officer (Sport), coordinated a number of MULS teams within Macquarie University Social Sport and held a fantastic MULS Gala Day. It has been utterly inspiring to experience the Events team’s hardwork, resilience and innovation that have created such excellent social opportunities for our members.

In the second half of 2022, the Events team will be hosting another Law Ball and Start of Semester Drinks, as well as the first Intervarsity Sports Gala Day since 2019. I can’t wait to see what you do in Session 2!
