Sustainability summit planned in Selmo Park

Student leaders and Green Dot have been planned the Selmo Sustainability Summit for Thursday through Saturday in Selmo Park, along Holden Street across from the Elliott Student Union.

The summit is an effort to “leave UCM better than we found it.”

Mathew Martinez, student governor, said in a February Muleskinner interview that he hopes to get students camping overnight for the two-night event. Martinez also said artists and performers from UCM, St. Louis, Kansas City and Lawrence, Kansas will be at the event.

A goal for the event is to plant trees and a community garden in Selmo Park, which was approved by Facilities, Planning and Operations. The event is also meant to be a learning experience, allowing students to educate others. Martinez said he wants to “allow students to help students so they can help themselves.”

Spotlight to celebrate UCM Founder's Day Spotlight will be hosting the Founder’s Day Celebration in order to celebrate the founding of UCM. The event, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the Union Mall, will feature games and refreshments. The event is free for all students to attend.

The organizer for the event, Chuqi Zhang, said cake, lemonade and snacks will be served at the event. There will also be a balloon artist, caricature artist and small games at the event.

Zhang said the event is meant for students to “appreciate the founders and be thankful about being here at UCM.” For more information, contact Zhang at chzhang@ucmo.edu.

Exhibit presents sexual assault awareness

The clothes are part of the “What Were You Wearing?” Survivor Art Installation presented by the Title IX office at UCM and several other sponsoring organizations. The articles of clothing are accompanied by 21 statements from survivors of sexual assault that explain what they were wearing when a sexual assault occurred.

Brody Glidden, a graduate student with a practicum in the Title IX office, said the statements are from survivors at universities and colleges across the country.

He said he worked with the University of

Kansas to set up the installation and pick the survivor statements.

“They emailed me their entire installation packet and it was fifty stories that we could choose from, so I chose 21 of the ones that were really a diverse selection – so there’s males, there’s females – because we know sexual assault is a human thing, not just a certain gender,” Glidden said.

Glidden said it’s a silent exhibit.

“Obviously people might go in with other people, but the impact is to really read the stories and connect it back with the saying ‘What were you wearing?” he said. “We’re trying to move away from blaming the victim based off of what they were wearing, and so this entire exhibit is to give survivors the opportunity to really take back what is theirs.”

Dancing with the Professors waltzes to a stage near you

The University of Central Missouri Dance Club is back to host its seventhannual fundraiser, Dancing with the Professors. This event raises funds to send students to the American College Dance Association.

This dance event is set for 7:30 p.m.

Sunday in the Highlander Theatre. Tickets to the show will be $5.

Faculty and staff participating this year are Chuck Clemens, football coach; Alex Smith, percussion professor; John Kennedy, web and multimedia producer; Michael Sekelsky, dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; Hannah Marsh, anthropology professor;

Erica Spurgeon, fashion professor; Darla Honn, accounting professor; and Nancy Forth, program coordinator and professor of counselor education.

The students in the cast are Lexi Poindexter, junior musical theatre major; Hannah Unruh, junior theatre performance major; Valerie Ruggle, sophomore child and family development major; Annie Beile, school counseling graduate student; Ethan Shaffer, sophomore theatre technology and design major; Tristan Jordan, sophomore speech communication and theatre major; Demetrius Hampton, sophomore theatre performance major; and Dakota Grieshaber, senior music technology major, according to a news release.

“Dancing with the Professors has proven to be one of the largest student-run fundraisers on campus and it is easily one of my favorite events of the year,” Miller-Scully said.

The evening will also include special guest judges and a performance by Center Stage Academy of the Performing Arts.

The event will be staffed by the UCM Dance Club, according to a news release.

During this seventh annual dance showcase, pairs of students and professors will compete against each other in a style similar to the ABC series “Dancing with the Stars,” where the audience vote sand contributes donations to the pair they like most to determine a winner.

“This is a great opportunity for students to learn a variety of dance styles from professionals from all reaches of the country,” Lesher said.

Jason Kander receives SGA award

Jason Kander, Missouri’s former secretary of state, received an award from UCM’s Student Government Association.

Kander came to UCM April 19 to receive the Excellence in Governance Award, which was created to honor James C. Kirkpatrick, who served as the secretary of state in Missouri for 20 years.

According to SGA, the award is given to someone they believe has practiced good governmental procedures, promoted the public interest and demonstrated loyalty to the university.

Kander was secretary of state in 20122017, and was the youngest statewide elected official in the country.

Kander was the 33rd recipient of this award.

The award has been given annually since 1985. Some past recipients were Sens. Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill; former Gov. Jay Nixon; Director of Student Activities Beth Rutt and many more.

Kander said he is honored to receive the Excellence in Governance award since it is named after James C. Kirkpatrick.

“Today to receive an award named after Jimmy Kirkpatrick, who literally the secretary of state’s building is named after, was pretty cool and I’m a fan of his,” Kander said.

One of Kander’s biggest programs is Let America Vote, which helps Kander as president of this program, to fight back against politicians throughout the country who make it harder for people to vote.

“I started Let America Vote just like the same reasons I ran for secretary of state. I wanted to fight for voting rights, and I see a lot of people out there right now, politi-

"She’s really been invaluable to the Friendship Families program, but she’s been invaluable to all of the international students that she’s ever interacted with because she has a deep personal passion for serving those students and for helping them know that they belong here and that they’re welcome here and that they are supported when they get here," Latare said. "She's pretty awesome."

Kim’s work at UCM has made her a two-time recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Scholarship. In her application essay for the scholarship, Kim said she dreams of a future with global equal rights.

“There’s no reason to limit it to the bounds of America. I think that dream should be global and there are so many people around the world fighting for equality in different ways and what that means in their country might be different than in our country, but I want to see each person treated equally and judged not by their skin color or their nationality or their language or anything…any ridiculous thing,” Kim said.

Kim said the opportunity to live with a student from a different country has been the most priceless experience in her life so far.

“Living with somebody gives you a whole new perspective into a different culture and then if you live with one international student then you just meet all their friends and that’s been so amazing for me to get to meet so many students that way and develop friendships with people from all around the world,” Kim said. “I would not trade that for anything.

That’s like by far the most educational experience, because I remember things that I learn from them much better than things I learn from my textbooks.”

Kim said her connections have made it easier and cheaper for her to travel since she can stay with friends in their countries of origin.

“Those friendships are just so priceless for me,” Kim said.

Kim has already studied abroad twice; once in the Middle East and another time in Japan. She has plans to go abroad again during the summer of 2018 but says she will stay on campus her final year.

“I had a plan to study abroad one semester for each year at UCM, but I love meeting all the international students here too much to leave, I think, so I will stay on campus for the next year,” Kim said.

In the future, Kim said she hopes to apply for the Japanese Exchange and Teaching program and eventually go to graduate school. She said she might participate in a Work Away program where she could work internationally while becoming immersed in another language.

“I want to help people around the world,” Kim said. “Whatever that looks like.”

Kim said it was hard to condense what she has learned from the international students she’s met at UCM. She said it has greatly affected the way she views spirituality.

“I grew up in church, but I learned a lot about God when I came here, and that has really reshaped (and) redefined my whole purpose and what I’m doing,” Kim said. "I guess since I came to UCM I’ve learned that I need to learn from every person’s story and I can’t project my preconceived notions onto them and view them through that lens.”

She said she’s learned that God is not American.

“If I want to learn about God, I should learn about God in every culture," Kim said.

"I want to help people around the world.

Teaching compassion by example, UCM alumna connects with students

The phone rings at the Hidden Pines Country Club.

“Reflections on Pine, this is Samantha, how can I help you?”

Sam Crouch pulled away from our conversation and the dishes to take a to-go order. The club is busy for a Tuesday night, and all the employees are exhausted — including Sam. The 36-year-old bartender, teacher and single mother woke up at 4:30 a.m. and she plans on getting home around midnight. That’s if everything goes smoothly and a reporter doesn’t keep her up talking all night.

She teaches sixth-graders at Clifford H. Nowlin Middle School in Independence,

Missouri, a school that is 55 miles from her home, and bartends a couple of nights of the week.

“On a teacher’s salary, it’s tight,” Sam said. “If I could pay all my bills with no worries, I wouldn’t have to bartend. I don’t make enough being on my own.”

She has been a single mother of two off and on since she and her ex-husband separated in 2013 and then divorced in 2017.

She also lost her mother and started the first year of her teaching career in 2013.

“Being a single mom? I don’t wish that on my worst enemy,” Sam said. “It’s not impossible. Women do it all the time, but it’s hard.”

Sam said her two children, Reese and Braden, help her get through the hard times.

“You never realize how much you love someone until you have your own kids,” Sam said. “There’s so much love there, I can’t explain it. I feel like good parents do everything they can to be the best they can be for their kids to be the best role model.”

This love and desire to be a good role model has transferred from home to her classroom.

Sam went into education to inspire kids. She said she loves interacting with her students and enjoys that they keep her young and entertained.

“My heart pulled and tugged at education,” she said. “There’s enough people in the world to make you feel like crap. I wanted to be the one that made these kids feel good. Kids need someone to believe in them.”

Sam sees the impact that a community in poverty has on students.

This indicates there is a high level of poverty in the area, according to Nancy Boeles, communications coordinator at DESE. “The National Center for Education Statistics considers schools to be high poverty if more than 75 percent of students qualify for FRPL,” Bowles said via email.

Knowing many of the students come from low-income families, Sam said she does everything she can to make them more comfortable and feel safe in their learning environment.

Sam’s 70 students shared their thoughts about their teacher via Google Form as part of their bellwork since a school policy kept a Muleskinner reporter from meeting them in person. Bellwork is the students’ first assignment when they walk into Sam’s class.

One student said Sam helps her students when they are struggling.

“She is awsome and she can relly help wen your in a tuf spot,” the student said in the Form.

Sam said she reaches out to her students in ways most teachers don’t. Sam has a student who has been homeless the majority of the school year, but his family recently found a place to call home.

Knowing this, Sam bought him a poster of his favorite football player, Cam Newton, to hang up in his new room.

“It’s the small things, and those small moments make the difference. At the end of the day, it’s about helping kids become good people,” she said. “That’s what teaching is.”

This wasn’t the only act of kindness she has shown her students.

Sam said she has given money to students to buy gifts for their family members, gives them thank you notes and has the students take turns eating lunch with her so she can get to know and connect TEACHING, continued on page 7

Kevin Willmontt and Mark von Schlemmer on a film-tastic journey

Kevin Willmott is a film director and writer, and an associate professor of film studies at the University of Kansas.

Mark von Schlemmer, a professor at the University of Central Missouri, is an editor and has helped Willmott edit many of his films over the years.

Willmott has directed and wrote films such as "Ninth Street," "Das Bus," "The Confederate States of America," "Bunker Hill," "The Only Good Indian," "Destination: Planet Negro," "Gordon Parks Elementary," "Jayhawkers," "Chi-Raq" and more.

Willmott is well known for “The Confederate States of America,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

The movie is a fictional British documentary that shows life in America as if the South had won the Civil War. Willmott and von Schlemmer met through von Schlemmer’s show, “Sihlouttes.” It was aired on a local TV station which Willmott wanted his film

“Big Man” to be aired on. From there, von Schlemmer started taking classes from Willmott at Kansas University. Von Schlemmer then started helping him edit “The Confederate States of America,” blossoming a long work partnership and friendship.

Willmott’s most recent film is “William Allen White: What’s the Matter with Kansas?” Which is a documentary of William Allen White, who changed the standards of journalism when acknowledging racism, mading history in Kansas.

Von Schlemmer was the editor of this film, which premiered Wednesday, April 25, at KU. Willmott and von Schlemmer’s favorite film they have worked on together is “Destination: Planet Negro.”

“Destination: Planet Negro” is a film about African-American leaders reacting to the Jim Crow laws by colonizing on Mars. Instead of landing on Mars, they find themselves in modern-day America,

showing racial issues still relevant today.

“It’s not becoming less relevant too, I mean that’s part of it, is that it’s a film that unfortunately…we’re not really living in a post-racial society,” von Shlemmer said.

Willmott said he really appreciates von Schlemmer’s hard work on his films, and how he tries anything he might throw at

him, no matter how crazy.

He said they try the edit, see if it works and if it doesn’t, they learn from their mistakes and move on.

“I really love Mark’s willingness to try things,” Willmott said. “I mean, I’ve worked with other editors and it can be frustrating when they don’t want to try it.”

Sam also said teaching goes beyond what she reads them out of a book.

“I want to inspire them to love to learn, which is extremely hard,” she said.

“I want them to find their dreams, their goals, their passions. I want them to find who they want to be and make themselves happy.”

She credits Joanie Hartnett, associate professor of educational foundations, as a big inspiration because of what she taught her during her time as a UCM student.

Sam graduated in 2012 with a Masters of Arts in teaching.

“She always told me that kids aren't always going to remember what you teach

them, but they will always remember how you treat them,” Sam said. “That stuck with me.”

Hartnett described Sam as dedicated, caring and compassionate. She said Sam always had the best interest of others and was a wonderful student and now teacher.

Sam’s life has been filled with financial struggles, relationship problems and a career that can be exhausting and stressful, but she still keeps a positive attitude.

“Every day I just wake up and really think about how grateful I am,” she said.

“Gratitude gets me through the moments that don't seem to go away.”

“If I do enough good, eventually it’ll pay off,” she said. “I want to be a good role model.”

Other students said Sam has taught them things like vocabulary words and how to write. Many students said she is nice, funny and has a good personality.

Sam said the connections she makes with her students mean everything to her.

“I really feel like it is important to know the other story,” she said. “Maybe our students are just doing the best they can with the tools they have. I’m always trying to think about where people are coming from.”

INFORMED IN A BALANCED WAY

In the past two years, it has become clear to Americans that understanding what is going on in politics is vital. Within

one year, America has experienced a tax cut that removed the Affordable Healthcare mandate, a government shutdown and a plethora of election upsets and scandals.

However, while government affects the lives of all Americans, over the years

Americans have become less knowledgeable.

“Between 1972 and 2008, the share of people saying they follow ‘what’s going on in government and public affairs’ declined from 36 percent to 26 percent,” Sen. Mike Lee from the Social Capital

Project said.

If politics has such an impact on everyone’s lives, why do only 26 percent of Americans know what is going on in the government? There are a lot of reasons, but the most straightforward answer is see informed on page 11

Saying goodbye to my serving job.... and sexual harassment

Sexual misconduct. It happens everywhere. Homes, schools, workplaces.

If you go out to eat regularly in Warrensburg, there’s a chance that I’ve brought you food. In the past four years, I’ve worked at five restaurants in town. I was either sexually harassed or sexually assaulted at four of them.

I was 17 years old when I started working in the service industry. I wasn’t as outspoken as I am today, so the first time a man made an inappropriate comment about my backside, I didn’t know how to use my voice and tell him he had crossed a line.

I thought being cat-called, brushed up against – accidentally of course – and objectified was just something I was supposed to deal with as a server.

The men who made me uncomfortable became regulars at the restaurants where I worked. I would deal with this attention and abuse at least once a week.

One man would come to my workplace and just sit there. Sometimes he would get something to drink, but for the most part, it felt like he was just staying there to watch me work. I would go over and politely say “hello” and have a brief conversation about something meaningless.

It made me feel uneasy to say the least.

He did this enough times that I finally

mentioned it to my boss. They responded by saying there was nothing they could do about it.

Nothing they could do, or nothing they cared to do? I was stuck being stared at until he finally got bored and decided to leave me alone.

Another man openly asked me about my sexual history the first time I ever served him. The kicker is that his wife was sitting next to him. She didn’t react at all to his question. I’m guessing this is because he had done this before.

That man also became a regular, and I had to bring him meals for about a year.

Another man added me on Facebook after seeing me at work. He was cute, so I added him back, and we would have nice but brief conversations.

Shortly after that, I found out he was engaged, so I stopped talking to him. However, this didn’t stop him from sending me a picture of his genitals after he had been drinking one night.

He came into the restaurant I was working at about once a week for several months, but my co-workers had known about the incident and made sure I didn’t have to serve him or his fiancé. Yeah, he

brought her with him a lot of the time.

Other men have been handsy, grabbing my backside, touching me when I was facing the other way or even awkwardly hugging me for entirely too long.

Most of the time, it was customers who did these things to me, but there were a few times when coworkers made me feel this discomfort.

One of my co-workers followed me to the back of the building during a shift one night.

As our boss walked by, my co-worker grabbed me and kissed me very forcefully out of nowhere and then he and my boss walked away laughing.

I stood there confused, feeling powerless and wondering what the hell had even just happened.

I couldn’t even report that instance to my boss because he had already seen it and it seemed like he was in on the joke.

I wish I could say that these are the only times when I felt disrespected and harassed, but there are countless stories like these. It’s painful to think about the amount of times I wished I was anywhere but at my job – a place that should be safe for a college student to make some cash.

These stories may seem like harmless jokes or situations to be in, but the truth is, I felt objectified most of the time I was trying to make money to pay for my education.

I’ll admit that I could have probably avoided some of these situations. I could have ignored these men, yelled at them or quit my jobs. I didn’t though. I was passive and allowed people to treat me poorly.

I won’t let it happen ever again. I won’t let anyone treat me with less respect than I deserve. I won’t be passive the next time I’m sexually harassed.

Monday was my last shift ever taking beer and burgers to grabby and demanding men – I couldn’t be happier. I’m graduating college, starting a fantastic job in journalism and moving to a new place, but all I can think about is how happy I am that I won’t be a waitress anymore.

I’m thankful for what the jobs I worked in college did for me. I made friends, connections and memories that I won’t forget; I just wish some of those memories didn’t include a drunken man running his hand down my ass while his wife, oblivious, sat across from him eating her pasta.

INFORMED, continued from page 10 that it’s a lot harder than ever to get all the information when the news is continually changing.

It’s easy for Americans in 2018 not to have a burning desire to stay informed and active in politics. The 24-hour news cycle in America has made listening to the news difficult with the extreme spectrums of coverage from channel to channel.

Most news stations either change their topic coverage every ad break or drag out the coverage for hours.

Those reasons could explain the Pew Research data that concluded Americans are relying less on TV to bring them their news over the years but instead turn toward the internet for their news.

The internet offers quick snippets and highlights of multiple stories rather than a snail pace coverage of one. Those highlights do change how people understand the story; a news source would have the ability to frame the issue in a biased way by only reporting a part of the story.

Regardless of how people get their news, it is more important where a person gets their news.

Someone should try to find a network that offers balance or at least both sides of the political spectrum. Only listening to Fox News or CNN is a fantastic way to get confirmation of previously held beliefs but not to form new ones.

It is important to take a stance on issues

but only after understanding what each side represents.

A more balanced news network would be one that owns the bias they have. A perfect example of this would be KCRW’s Left, Right, and Center. The hosts of the show will change from timeto time, but the principle stays the same. The show’s foundation is being very upfront about where the hosts fall on the spectrum and why they believe their side is correct.

Another option could be to look toward local news stations and newspapers.

Large news companies have access to large groups of people and can afford to show bias; the local news can’t afford to show a bias that could turn the small num-

ber of local citizens from tuning in.

Regardless, if it is at a local, state or national level, transparency is critical in finding a trustworthy source for news.

While becoming informed on what is going on in the country is of utmost importance, it is not an easy task. It takes a lot of time and effort to sort through all news companies to find the ones that are transparent.

Most students don’t have a lot of time to spend finding balanced media, so utilizing time spent finding quality coverage is vital. One should show strict scrutiny before accepting what they hear as the gospel truth, that is the only way someone can become informed in a balanced way.

'A QUIET PLACE'

A GREAT HORROR FILM

“A Quiet Place” is a movie I knew nothing about going into it; I only knew it was a horror/thriller. I’m glad I did end up watching this movie though because I really like it.

Emily Blunt, known for “Sicario” and “Girl on a Train,” stars alongside her real-life husband, John Krasinski, best known as Jim from “The Office.” Together they play a mother and father trying survive in a post-apocalyptic world with their young children. It’s worth noting that Krasinski has done plenty of other film work besides “The Office,” especially since he co-wrote and directed this film.

Is “A Quiet Place” actually scary? After all, most horror films being made at the moment are generic garbage. Well, I’m happy to confirm that “A Quiet Place” is an exception to that rule. This movie is scary; it scared me anyway.

Now describing the plot is something I’ll try not to do, because that would ruin the experience. Here’s the short version: In this future world, mysterious creatures are hunting humans. However, they are blind and can only track their prey

through sound. In order to get by, people have to survive while making as little noise as possible. Simply dropping your keys would be enough for the creatures to find and kill you.

Despite being a big studio picture, “A Quiet Place” has an almost arthouse movie feel to it. Because the characters can’t make much sound, they don’t talk much.

And if they do, it’s usually through sign language. This may sound boring, but after watching for a while, you get used to it. Also, the film uses a minimalist style of storytelling. The names or backstories of the characters aren’t given, yet they are still good characters. Sometimes less is more when it comes to movies.

I’m not going to explain anymore details. This movie will be far more compelling if I don’t. Many famous horror films I’ve seen, such as “Halloween” or “Alien,” I wasn’t that scared by because they had been, unfortunately, spoiled for me beforehand. I found it very refreshing to watch a horror movie and have no idea what was going to happen.

If I had to describe this movie with one single word it would be this… intense. I was legitimately scared by this movie and I was practically on the edge of my seat,

I’m not over exaggerating either. Granted, I don’t watch much horror. Despite having some scenes that are slow and thoughtful, don’t let that fool you. Sometimes you, the audience, don’t get a break from the suspense. Often, the characters avoid danger, just for it to come right back in five minutes. Even the ending credits are scary – how do you make the ending credits scary?

There are some jump scares here and there – moments when scary stuff just appears out of nowhere, catching you off guard. I don’t like jump scares that much.

They’re generic, too easy and they usually get me every time. Thankfully, there are only a few jumps scares and the movie relies on different ways to be scary.

Of course, I’ve only seen this movie once – because movie tickets are expensive – so I’m don’t know what it feels like to rewatch “A Quiet Place.” I’m not sure if it’s just as intense while watching it again, but based off my first viewing, I would probably guess it’s still great.

But the most impressive thing about this movie is not how scary it is. One of the producers for “A Quiet Place” was Michael Bay – yes, that Michael Bay. How can that be? This movie was great.

Ah well, hopefully Bay’s getting better at making movies. But it’s going to take a lot more good movies to make up for his work on the “Transformers” and “Ninja Turtles” film franchises.

Again, I don’t watch much horror, but “A Quiet Place” was a great movie. Although, that doesn’t mean I’m comparing the film’s quality to the likes of other horror greats, “Halloween” or “Alien” for example. In all honesty, this movie isn’t perfect. What I am saying is this movie was well-crafted.

The suspense, the cinematographer and acting were all very well done. And in addition to having scares, there is also plenty of heart as well. You care about these characters, you want to see them make it through all right. This makes the danger they face have a bigger impact, and the same can be said for the heartbreak they face.

If you don’t like being scared, I completely understand. But if you are willing to watch through the scary moments, then you might just really like this film. I really enjoyed it. “A Quiet Place” scared me just enough. I’m not sure if I shouldn’t watch another scary movie for a while, or if I should start watching more right now.

'The Fifth Wave' The Others Have Come

“The Fifth Wave,” a fiction novel written by Rick Yancy, tells the story of a young girl named Cassie who goes through an alien invasion of Earth. The aliens in the book are called the Others, with the invasion coming in five different waves to weaken the human population, before they wipe them out completely.

After her parents die, Cassie is living in a forest fending for herself and trying to avoid being hunted by the Others. The Others are very intelligent and try to outsmart everyone.

The first wave cuts all the power. Noth-

ing electrical, battery-powered or technological works – including cars.

Cassie is at school when the first wave hits. All the lights go out in the classroom, and an airplane falls out of the sky and crashes into the schoolyard.

The second wave destroys all the crops and livestock. The third wave is a deadly, incurable sickness that kills almost everyone. Some people, like Cassie, are somehow immune to the sickness and survive.

The fourth physically brings the Others to earth, in a humanoid form, to kill off the pestilence survivors.

There’s a quote I like from Cassie where she says, “The Others aren’t little bug-eyed green men with laser guns who say, ‘take us to your leader.’ The truth

is, when the Others came, we stood no chance against them.”

Before the fifth wave, almost all of humanity has been wiped out by the Others.

Cassie wonders if there is anyone left alive besides her.

In the very first page of the book, Cassie says, “Sometimes in my tent, late at night, I think I can hear the stars scraping against the sky.”

Yancy uses this metaphor to describe how quiet it is around Cassie.

One night, Cassie is badly injured. A marine named Evan finds her and takes her to an underground bunker, where other soldiers and survivors are living. He helps Cassie get better and tells her he and the soldiers are trying to figure out how

to defeat the Others, creating a sense of hope.

I really enjoyed “The Fifth Wave” because of Yancy’s writing style. He is very descriptive with how Cassie feels, and what she sees in great detail.

Cassie is looking at Evan and is describing how handsome he looks, how he smells, and what he’s wearing.

She describes in the story that after the Others came in the fourth wave, no one can trust any human they come into contact with. Cassie trusts and wants to stay with Evan, even though she doesn’t have any idea who he is – or what he could be.

Top Ten MCU Movies… So Far

Over the past school year, I’ve written a lot about the Marvel Cinematic Universe – it’s not my fault they have a monopoly on movie theaters – and now I’m going to write about the MCU some more.

Today, “Avengers: Infinity War” hits theaters. To celebrate it, and the franchise’s ten-year anniversary, here’s my list of top 10 MCU films.

Of course, in a perfect world, I would’ve seen “Avengers: Infinity War” before making this list. After all, the movie could be amazing, or not – of course, but also in a perfect world, Hawkeye and Black Widow would have gotten their own movies by now.

Judging each movie by their overall quality, story, acting, writing, characters, etc, here is my list of the best movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe… so far.

Honorable Mentions

I’d like to list “Dr. Strange” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” as #11 and #12 respectively. They would’ve been on the list, but it would’ve made it too long and overall they have their flaws. Also, the Marvel television series can be just as good as the great.

10. Captain America: The First Avenger “The First Avenger” provided a proper origin story on how Steve Rogers became Captain America and paid tribute to the character’s glory days in Marvel comics.

Anthony Russo, the co-director of “Winter Soldier,” said “The First Avenger,’ was very much a love letter to the golden age of the character,” according to a Screen Junkies interview.

There are some flaws with its story, like World War II being portrayed as an action film, which is why it’s number 10. However, it featured an awesome performance

by Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull – you can’t go wrong with a villain played by Mr. Smith from the “Matrix” franchise.

9. Ant-Man Unlike the other Marvel films, “AntMan” isn’t really a typical superhero story, as the main focus is actually on a heist.

I feel like I should almost dislike this film somehow, but I don’t. Due to the humor and upbeat tone, there is a good deal of charm to the film, putting it at number nine.

I’m interested to see the sequel, “AntMan and the Wasp.” Although, “AntMan” might have been better had Edgar Wright stayed on as the director. He had to leave due to “creative differences” – I don’t really know what that means either.

8. Captain America: Civil War Civil War had to juggle several superheroes at once, more than “The Avengers” did. With all these Marvel characters facing off against each other, the movie was able to find a proper balance and deliver some of the best fights scenes in the whole franchise. While it may not have gone quite into as much detail about morality as the comic series, it still raised interesting questions about the ethics of being a superhero.

7. Iron Man Without this movie, the MCU may not even exist. From its success came “The Avengers” and everything after. Robert Downy Jr.'s role as the cocky Tony Stark is now practically iconic – though, Downy has been accused of just playing himself. But that’s not surprising after knowing that much of his acting was in fact improv because the movie didn’t really have a script.

“When studio executives greenlit the first entry into the modern Marvel franchise, they got a little too caught up in the special effects to worry about the script,” according to Cinefix.com. With that in mind, it's impressive the movie was as good as it is.

6. Thor: Ragnarok

The first two Thor movies weren’t bad, but they weren’t that great either. So when in film history has the third movie in a trilogy been far better than the ones before it? Ragnarok is a very entertaining movie with its comedy, action and colorful characters. By all means it’s a movie filled with some mindless fun, but still a good time. Plus, Ragnarok gave the Incredible Hulk a chance to star in a movie that wasn’t bad. My hope is that one day, Hulk will have his own solo title and it will be good.

5. The Avengers If I was basing my opinion off of nostalgia, Avengers would be number one on this list. I watched it on opening weekend with my friends and little brothers.

The theater was packed; it was my best movie watching experience. "The Avengers” helped get me interested in the MCU – comic books and the films in general.

In addition, this movie had to deal with a lot of pressure. It had to combine all of the other superheroes, each established in their own solo entry, into one single blockbuster. It succeeded, putting it in the top five.

4. Spider-Man: Homecoming This movie had a lot of expectations to meet. Before it, there were five other Spider-Man films. While it still is an origin story, Homecoming wisely choose not to repeat the same moments from the other movies: such as a spider biting Peter Parker or *SPOILER ALERT* Uncle Ben getting shot.

Tom Holland’s performance as the web-slinger holds its own when compared to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

When it comes to the best Spider-Man movie, it’s either “Homecoming” or “Spider-Man 2” – but that’s a review for another time.

Disclaimer: The final three films were hard to choose from because they are all so good in their quality, any of themcould’ve been number one.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy How is this movie so enjoyable?

Honestly, it should’ve been a flop. The “Guardians of the Galaxy” was based on a Marvel comic series that barely anyone read, starred some comedian named Chris Pratt and was written and directed

by James Gunn, who started his career making gory horror films. And yet, it’s a really fun movie. The characters are great, especially how they work off each other, which forms some genuine comedy. It also has one of my favorite movie soundtracks.

2. Black Panther Overall, most MCU movies can feel similar to one another. And by far, out of all the films on this list, “Black Panther” is an exception. Dealing with some complex themes and characters, it helped remind moviegoers that superhero films have the potential to tell meaningful stories. Despite there not being that much action, the rest of the film’s other aspects more than make up for it. It has set the bar high for “Infinity War,” that’s for sure.

1. Captain America: Winter Soldier The Captain America films are the best trilogy out of the MCU – though more trilogies are underway. This is definitely an action movie and it’s a lot of fun to watch. Before, many comic fans and causal viewers thought of Captain America as a boring character. This included Joe Russo, who co-directed the film with his brother, Anthony.

“Our whole approach with the movie was how can we make Cap interesting to a comic fan, like myself, who didn’t love the character,” Russo said in a Screen Junkies interview.

The film provided awesome action sequences and more importantly some much needed depth for the character.

Mules rout Bearcats to pick up 30th win

Mules baseball shut down Southwest Baptist in the final game of their season series 8-0 April 24 behind a combined effort from four Mules pitchers who held the Bearcats to two hits.

Both teams’ starters were in command through five innings as they struggled to get their offenses going. Mules starter Collin Jones would go 6.1 innings allowing the only two hits of the game and striking out three.

The Mules offense struggled to get anything going against Bearcats starter Elias Czech but were able to capitalize on their third time through the lineup. First baseman Collin Nevil led off the sixth and was hit by an inside pitch to get on base. Right fielder Justin Graff-Rowe suffered the same fate and third baseman John Fairchild would come to the plate with two on and one out. Fairchild delivered and smashed a triple to the center field wall to start a five-run inning.

“In that situation where both teams aren’t scoring, you stay calm and don’t try to do too much,” Nevil said. “Just trust the guys around you and when push comes to shove, we’re gonna find a way to score runs.”

The Mules added three more runs down the stretch, punishing the Bearcats bullpen. Nevil crushed his 13th home run of the season on a 2-0 pitch to right field to cap off the victory.

“I was just looking for a good pitch to hit. I got up in the count and was sitting on a fastball. Just trying to get on time and catch a ball out front,” Nevil said.

The Mules defense limited any momentum the Bearcats tried to mount throughout the game, turning three double plays and allowing only one Bearcat baserunner to reach third base.

Mules second baseman Donavan Ditto finished 2-3, improving his season average to .282 in his freshman campaign.

Shortstop Harrison Schnurbusch went 2-4 and drove in two runs. Graff-Rowe reached base three of the four times he came up to bat, collecting a hit and two walks.

The victory marks the 30th on the season for the Mules and their record in the MIAA is now 21-9. They trail Central Oklahoma by a game for first place in the conference. The Mules have three games in hand over the Bronchos in the final week of the season. With the win, the Mules have won consecutive games for the first time since April 4.

“I feel like we were pretty hot at the beginning and then hit a bit of a rut,” Nevil said. “I think we’ve come together really nicely here in the last week and we’re going in the right direction.”

There are only six games left on the schedule for the Mules. The weekend series with Missouri Southern will be the final home games of the season. Saturday will serve as Senior Day where the Mules will honor 12 seniors, including regular starters Fairchild, Graff-Rowe, Nevil and Travis Able.

“Part of me wants to say it feels like a long time coming, but it feels like I was just a freshman. It goes so quickly,” Nevil said. “I couldn’t be happier to celebrate Senior Day with all the other guys.”

The series with Missouri Southern is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Crane Stadium/Tomkins Field. Game two is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday with a showcase honoring the seniors to follow. The final game of the series will be Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

Jennies open postseason against Lindenwood Jennies softball concluded their regular season with two doubleheaders over the weekend. The Jens would go 3-1 in those games with back-to-wback 9-0 wins over Lincoln and a split with Lindenwood.

The Jens finished the season 30-20 with

a 19-7 record in conference and a 13-1 home record. Since the Jennies 6-12 start to the season, they’ve gone 24-8 down the stretch.

Leftfielder Taylor Dames collected six hits and four RBI in the last four games.

Dames finished her first season with the Jennies batting .320 with 19 RBI. The Jennies will begin their postseason campaign with the MIAA Tournament beginning Thursday at the USA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla-

homa. A rematch with Lindenwood will be the first test of the tournament for the Jennies. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. on the Integris Field.

The Williams/Laptad Open will be a one day event Friday, scheduled at 11 a.m. on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Last is the Simpson Invitational which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Friday, in Indianola, Iowa.

Track and field hosts Mules Relays The Mules and Jennies track and field teams hosted the first outdoor edition of the Mules Relays since 2015 over the weekend at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field.

Four Mules throwers earned provisional qualifying marks in the hammer throw and took four of the top five spots. Jace Kaleikau took first, Nathan Liby finished second, Nathan Cummings took fourth and John Berry rounded out the top five.

Jesse Miller earned qualifying marks in the high jump, taking first with a jump of 7-.05, tying for the fifth highest in UCM history and only two inches short of the highest in school history.

Noah Larsen led the Mules in the distance department, taking first in the 800 meter in 1 minute and 52 seconds. His performance earned him a provisional qualifying mark.

Jennies finish fifth in conference championship Jennies golf got their postseason underway competing in the MIAA Championship at Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Jens sat in sixth place at the end of day two but shot 322, a 20-stroke im-

provement from day one. They carried that momentum into day three, shooting 321 to finish fifth place.

Junior Elizabeth Leath was the top individual performer and led the Jens two of the three rounds. Leath finished +25, 241

to finish tied for 10th.

Senior Jordan Rehkow finished +30, 246 and placed 17th overall. Rehkow and Leath finished with five birdies each, tied for third most in the field.

The Jennies will learn their postsea-

son fate on Monday afternoon when the NCAA releases the Central Region selections at 2 p.m. on NCAA.com.

Mules recover to take second at MIAA Championship After finishing day one in eighth place, Mules golf got back on track finishing in second place at the MIAA Championship at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Olathe, Kansas.

The Mules improved on their shaky start, knocking 18 strokes off their day one score to move into second place at

the end of day two. Despite another good round on day three, the Mules were unable to catch eventual champions Lindenwood. The Lions shot the best round as a team of the whole tournament with a 277 on day two.

Senior Shayne Allan was the top finisher for the Mules at sixth place. Allan fin-

ished +3, 219, with his best round coming on day two where he shot two under par.

Junior John Bonaobra finished tied for 12th with a final line of +4, 220.

Freshman Matt Hoemann rounded out the top 20 with a final line of +6, 220.

Like Allan, Hoemann had his best round on day two where he shot -4, 68.

The Mules are ranked 26th in the nation according to the latest polls. Next up for the Mules is the NCAA Super Regional May 7-9, at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.

On April 29, a special train carrying a war exhibit rolled into Warrensburg.

Hundreds of war relics direct from the Western front, including guns, shells, shrapnel, helmets, gas masks, trench tools, clothing and more under the care of French, Canadian, and American soldiers were on display. Following the exhibit, speeches were made by men who had been in the trenches.

Senate Bill Number 106 was introduced and proposed the name change of Central Missouri Teachers College to Central Missouri State College. The bill would also propose the dropping of the word “teachers” from the name of four of the Missouri colleges now designated in that manner. The name-change had the approval of the Board of Regents, the administration, the faculty and President George W. Diemer.

The Student Government Association approved the creation of the Campus Veterans Association. The purpose of the CVA is to promote veteran participation in campus and college sponsored events and to assist each veteran in their reorientation to civilian and college life. Any student who had received an honorable discharge and served at least 181 days on active duty with the United States armed forces was eligible for membership.

18 CAMPUS CRIME Ronnie Scroggins, 35, was arrested at 11:53 p.m. April 9 on the second floor of North Ellis Hall on suspicion of unlawfully possessing a firearm. Scroggins, who is not a student, was found to be possessing a firearm inside North Ellis. Scroggins was released pending formal charges after being processed.

A black Toyota Corolla was towed at 11:26 a.m. April 10 due to possessing a stolen or lost parking permit. The permit was returned to Parking Services.

An incident of trespassing was reported at 8:19 a.m. April 13 at UCM’s Prussing Farm. According to the report, a white Avalanche with a male driver and female passenger trespassed around midnight on April 13. The occupants told farm employees that they were looking for the shooting range.

A possible drug law violation was reported at 11:35 p.m. April 13 on the second floor of The Crossing - South at Holden.

The officer could not determine the origin of the odor.

A banned person was reported to have attended an event at 3:17 p.m. April 14 in Hendricks Hall. The individual left after observing the officer’s presence.

Ally Waisner, 19, and Jacklyn Bonderer, 19, were arrested at 1:29 a.m. April 16 in Lot 60 on suspicion of possessing marijuana, drug paraphernalia and being minors in possession of alcohol after officers noticed a vehicle with no headlights or tail lights turn onto Christopher Street. A traffic stop was made and Waisner and Bonderer were arrested. Waisner and Bonderer were released on a signature bond.

A truck was reported to have swiped a chain-linked fence post at 12:06 p.m. April 16 in Lot 50 when the driver made a turn too sharp. Major damage was reported to have been done to the passenger side of the truck bed with the fence post only receiving paint transfer.

An incident of harassment was reported at 7:48 p.m. April 16 in South Yeater after someone threatened the reporting party.

A possible drug law violation was reported at 5:28 p.m. April 17 in Lot 60 after officers responded to Ellis in regards to a possible stolen vehicle. An odor of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle and a marijuana residue was located. The individual was banned from portions of University property, including the location of the parked vehicle. The individual will be referred for University discipline.

April 26 - May 4 | The Muleskinner p.m. April 18 in North Ellis on suspicion of failing to obey an officer and resisting arrest after participating in a large verbal altercation in the 300 block of Anderson Street. Clem was released on signature bond following processing.

A Mercury Cougar was towed at 10:28 a.m. April 19 from Lot 13 due to excessive unpaid parking tickets.

Amber Scott, 19, was arrested at 2 a.m.

Friday in the 600 block of South Washington Street on suspicion of possessing marijuana and being a minor in possession of alcohol by consumption after officers noticed a vehicle parked in a no parking zone.

Scott was released on signature bond after being processed. Two additional occupants of the vehicle were referred for University discipline.

A possible drug law violation was reported at 10:02 p.m. Friday on the third floor of North Ellis Hall. The source of the odor could not be located.

A banned student was reported to have been found trespassing at 9:32 p.m. Friday in The Crossing - South at Holden. The individual was not able to be located.

A possible drug law violation was reported at 1:21 a.m. Saturday on the fourth floor of Nattinger Hall. The officer could smell a marijuana odor coming from a female subject who entered a room in the hall. The officer was unable to investigate further because another incident was being investigated. The incident will be forwarded for disciplinary referral.

A verbal argument was reported to be occurring at 1:03 a.m. April 18 in Lot 50.

The parties involved were separated for the evening.

Cicely Hall, 19, was arrested at 12:33 a.m. Sunday at Pertle Springs on suspicion of possession of marijuana after he was found to be parked inside the park after it closed. The marijuana was seized and Hall was placed under arrest. Hall was later released on a signature bond with a summons to appear in court after being processed.

stolen from a pillar at 1:36 a.m. Sunday in Selmo Park. The globe was last observed in place approximately 10 minutes before.

The area was searched and the globe was unable to be located.

Small amounts of marijuana were located in a vehicle at 1:42 a.m. Sunday at South Washington and Houx streets after a traffic stop was initiated for a vehicle failing to signal for a turn, failing to drive on the correct side of the road and speeding.

An egg was reported to have been thrown at a car at 2:21 a.m. Sunday at Houts-Hosey Hall. The vehicle received no damage.

Andre Stewart, 24, was arrested at 2:26 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Christopher Street on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, driving over the posted speed limit and driving without a valid license.

Stewart nearly struck a curb while turning, exceeded the posted speed limit by over 15 miles per hour, and weaving constantly while driving before the officer initiated a traffic stop. Stewart was transported to the Johnson County Jail after being processed, where he was held on a protective custody hold.

A change bin was reported to have been removed from a vending machine at 6:21 a.m. Sunday on the second floor of Humphreys. The bin was located in a stall inside the men’s restroom. Approximately $17.40 in change was taken.

Money had been reported stolen from a local business at 7:26 p.m. April 11 in the 1000 block of South Maguire Street. $65 was reported to have been stolen.

A vehicle was reported to be stolen at 8:29 p.m. April 5 in the 200 block of South College Street. The reporting party reported that his ex-girlfriend stole his vehicle and the title to two of his cars.

A jacket which had been previously reported stolen from a vehicle was found at 1:30 a.m. April 12 between Mulberry and McGoodwin streets.

A home was reported to have been burglarized at 4:04 p.m. April 8 in the 400 block of Jefferson Street. The reporting party claimed the burglary occurred on March 16.

An apartment was reported to have had its door kicked in at 10:15 a.m. April 9 in the 400 block of Franklin Street.

Prescription medications were reported stolen at 4:28 p.m. April 9 in the 500 block of Creach Drive.

An apartment was reported to have been burglarized at 3:51 p.m. April 9 in the 300 block of North Ridgeview Drive. A painter reported his tool bag and drill stolen after someone had entered.

License plates were reported to have been removed from a vehicle at 8:33 a.m.

A chainsaw was reported stolen at 10:00 a.m. April 11 in the 700 block of North College Street while the reporting party was doing yard work. The reporting party reported the subject as a dark-haired, slender white male in their mid-thirties.

Brandon Johnson, 29, was arrested at 3:26 p.m. April 11 in the 300 block of North Maguire Street on suspicion of shoplifting after taking a bottle of Crown Royal.

Johnson was released with a signed citation for theft.

Michael Smith, 59, was arrested at 12:48 p.m. April 12 in the 200 block of East Cooper Boulevard on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he struck another vehicle. Smith was arrested and transported to WMMC for intoxication.

Threats were reported to have been made against the staff at a health care facility at 3:26 p.m. April 12 in the 600 block of West Clark Street.

Janel Whiting, 36, was arrested at 4:04 p.m. April 12 in the 500 block of North Ridgeview Drive on suspicion of child abuse.

Elaine Sepulveda, 52, was arrested at 4:32 p.m. April 12 in the 100 block of South Holden Street on suspicion of tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution.

Nicholas Paul, 19, was arrested at 9:35 p.m. April 13 in the 200 block of East Young Street on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia, failing to drive in the correct lane and delivering 35 grams or less of marijuana.

Andrew Forgey, 41, was arrested at 11:12 p.m. April 13 in the 500 block of West Young Street on suspicion of obstructing process.

An incident of domestic assault was reported at 6:54 a.m. April 13 on North Washington Street after the reporting party claimed that their boyfriend pushed them down and strangled them.

A person reported being assaulted at 7:37 p.m. April 13 in the 900 block of Ridge Drive after having a disagreement with another person.

A vehicle reported stolen was located at 4:59 p.m. April 14 at Gay and Maguire streets. A marijuana odor was detected to be coming from the vehicle. Drug paraphernalia was found in the car. The subject was arrested by the Warrensburg Police Department on suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The subject was also arrested by the Johnson County Sherriff Department on suspicion for the stolen vehicle.

An incident of stealing by deceit was reported at 5:43 p.m. April 16 in the 300 block of West Gay Street.

Wesley Wishon, 34, was arrested at 10:23 p.m. April 16 at Broad and Maguire streets on suspicion of driving with a revoked license.

Domestic assault and property damage was reported at 11:22 a.m. April 17 in the 800 block of North Holden Street.

Ryan Cretella, 24, was arrested at 1 a.m.

April 17 in the 400 block of Burkarth Road on suspicion of assault.

Jennifer Allred, 33, was arrested at 9:36 p.m. April 17 at Polk and Washington streets on suspicion of domestic assault.

Items were reported stolen from a vehicle at 9:59 a.m. April 18 in the 400 block of Grover Street. Items reported stolen included sunglasses, basketball shoes and a baseball hat.

A person was reported to have got gas without paying at 3:37 p.m. April 18 in the 300 block of East Cooper Boulevard.

Kyle Stevens, 26, was arrested at 9:44 p.m. April 18 in the 800 block of South Main Street on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and delivering a controlled substance.

Kiontae Williams, 20, was arrested at 12:41 a.m. April 15 in the 100 block of West Pine Street on suspicion of failing to obey an officer and active warrants.

A person reported that his debit card number had been used to make numerous purchases online at 4:32 p.m. April 18 in the 700 block of Anderson Street.

Brenden Delaney, 32, was arrested at 11:48 p.m. April 15 in the 500 block of West Young Street on suspicion of possession of marijuana and active warrants.

Bryan Stevens, 51, was arrested at 1:10 p.m. April 19 in the 100 block of South Holden Street on suspicion of property damage and assault after it was reported he burned a blanket.

Andrew Haynes, 18, was arrested at 11:10 a.m. April 16 in the 1000 block of South Maguire Street on suspicion of stealing.

20 POLICE BEAT Tabatha Beebe, 33, was arrested at 10:35 p.m. April 19 at Gay and Holden streets on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and controlled substances.

James Stevenson, 19, was arrested at 11:25 p.m. April 19 in the 500 block of West Pine Street on suspicion of possessing marijuana.

A counterfeit check for $5,000 was reported to have been deposited at 1:35 p.m.

April 19 in the 500 block of East Young Street. The person who made the deposit withdrew $4,000 the same day. The person who made the deposit has not been able to be contacted. The case is still under investigation.

Garry Walker, 30, was arrested at midnight Friday in the 100 block of South Holden Street on suspicion of trespassing.

Illedgra Mitchell, 19, was arrested at 9:41 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of South Holden Street on suspicion of property damage and domestic assault.

Caitlin Miller, 22, was arrested at 10:38 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of South Holden Street on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident.

A black Dodge Charger was reported to have backed into another vehicle at 2:10 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of South Maguire Street before leaving the scene.

Amanda Johnson, 34, was arrested at 11:49 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Shady Lane on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident.

Michael Bramlett, 45, was arrested at 7:43 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of Hamilton Street on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and violating protection orders.

A vehicle was reported to have been damaged at 2:37 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of South Carpenter Street.

Items were reported stolen from a vehicle at 9:58 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of North Main Street. Items reported stolen included $900 cash, two debit cards and an iPad. The vehicle was unlocked. The case is still under under investigation.

A license plate was reported to have been removed from a vehicle at 7:41 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Anderson Street.

Jack Masterson, 61, and Todd Dempsey, 52, were arrested at 1:35 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of East Culton Street on suspicion of domestic assault.

Michael Bramlett, 45, Brandon Johnson, 29, and Nicholas Wilcox, 23, were arrested at 12:54 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Hamilton Street on suspicion of trespassBrandon Johnson, 29, was arrested at ing. Johnson was also arrested on suspicion of property damage, and Wilcox for 2:18 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of East active warrants. Johnson was released with Cooper Boulevard on suspicion of stealing. two signed citations.
