Message from the President

Morris Hawkins, Jr.

Brothers, Ihad alot of fun at the October meeting, both as a participant and as an observer. The fellowship and spirit of the Brotherhood is running high. Your support of Chapter programs is heartening and more encouraging as the weeks and months go by. Therefore, Ihave asked the chair¬ men of various Standing and Ad Hoc Coordinators of Service Projects to give brief reports at the November meeting.

At the November meeting, a reasonable amount of time will be devoted to understanding the new “intake process.” Therefore, Iam encouraging every Brother to come to the November meeting , in order to get acopy of the new manual and participate in the dis¬ cussion process which will be led by Brother C, C. Jones, III, our Education Director. The House will be secured: Brothers will be admitted only bv password _o_r

passcard.

My intent is to establish still another special interest group at the November. Iwill only say at this point that there are three (3) very important tasks to be tackled by this group. The tasks them¬ selves are not necessarily time consuming, but they do require a special kind of expertise.

Brothers, as we hold high the banner of Alpha Phi Alpha and carry the “Torch” for Education and Communication, Iam re¬ minded of averse by Josiah Gilbert Holland: Committees, and

“Project 200” is my goal for the 1990-91 Fraternal Year. That is, Iam looking forward to being able to announce at the December meeting that we have atotal of 200 fi nancial Brothers in Mu Lambda, either fully paid or com¬ mitted to becoming fully financial by the beginning of the 1991 cal¬ endar year.

There are additional exciting activities being planned for the very near future, keep your eyes and ears open and tuned to an¬ nouncements so that you may both be apart of the plans as well as a participant in these exciting events.

God, Give Us Men!

God, give us Men! Atime like this demands

Strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands;

Men whom the lust of office does not kill;

Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy;

Men who possess opinions and a will;

Men who have honor; men who will not lie;

Men who can stand before a demagogue

And damn his treacherous flatteries without winking!

Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog

In public duty and in private thinking;

For while the rabble, with their thumb-worn creeds.

Their large professions and their little deeds,

Mingle in selfish strife, lo! Freedom weeps.

Wrong rules the land and waiting Justice sleeps.

The Archives Committee has been established to preserve the leg¬ acy and heritage of Mu Lambda Chapter. The committee endeavors to collect, archive, and display, memorabilia for the enlightenment of all. Our new chairman is Brother Elmer D. Geathers. Brother Geathers needs 5other Brothers with interests in history, fine arts, graphic arts, etc. to assist him .He also plans to collect biographical information on the founders of Mu Lambda Chapter. To volunteer for the committee or to supply data on the chapter founders, contact BrotherGeathers(202-547-2625),
