Washington D.C. MU LAMBDA Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated

Message from the President

Ihave only just aminute, Only sixty seconds in it, Forced upon me —can’t refuse it, Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it But it’s up to me to use it

Imust suffer if 1lose it

Give account if Iabuse it, Just atiny little minuteBut eternity is in it

Greetings Brothers! This quote crossed my mind as Ithought about the holiday season and the many tra¬ ditions of Mu Lambda Chapter. Traditionally, we plan collectively for Founders’ Day celebrations, and indi¬ vidually for Christmas observance and New Years’ Eve resolutions.

This year, as we make preparations for the Mu Lambda Founders’ Day Luncheon, let us think about those thirteen brothers who will be present¬ ed fifty year membership certificates. Their dedication and commitment to the ideals of Alpha Phi Alpha are to be commended and emulated.

Somewhere between 1940 and 1942, these Brothers crossed those burning sands of Alpha; that’s 26,280,000 minutes as Alpha men for each honoree. Whether their .A.!pha journey began in Texas, the nation’s capitol of Washington, or the hilly area of Ithaca, the legacy of their leadership should be impressed on each one of us as we strive to “make adifference in D.C.” and Mu Lambda.

What have we done with each minute given us? Unlike the quote, our minutes in Alpha were not forced on us... We chose and were chosen to join the cadre of African American men who makeup the brotherhood of our fraternity.

Brothers, as we honor those mem¬ bers who have labored for Alpha, let us think about our history, our “ser-

Yes, aminute is only sixty sec¬ onds, how are you using your minute to contribute to those who “march onward and upward toward the light”?

Finally, may the sweet spirit of the Holiday Season bless each one of you and your families. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

That’s right! Everybody is talking about Mu Lambda Chapter. The theme for this year’s membership reclama¬ tion program highlights the good news about this dynam¬ ic chapter.

Under the direction of Brother Sam Thornton, Chairman of the Membership Reclamation Committee, the chapter has set agoal of 200 brothers fully fi nancially with Mu Lambda &the General Organizaiton. In the past, this goal has eluded Mu Lambda; with renewed dedi¬ cation and creation of frater¬ nal programs, each brother has been asked to bring a brother for reclamation.

On November 10, the Membership Reclamation Committee kicked off its reclamation program with a happy hour at El Toriios restaurant on the Riverfront in South West Washington. Approximately twenty-five brothers were in attendance. The committee will be plan¬ ning monthly reclamation/ fi aternal events.

Why don’t you become a part? Renew your fraternal and fi nancial commitment to the fraternity. Your support and participation would enhance Mu Lambda’s abili¬ ty to be “...the college of friendship, university of brotherly love; and school !for the better making of men.”

For more membership infor¬ mation, call Bro. Samuel Thornton, (301) 998-7197.
