each of you since September 11, 2001. WHAT ATRAGEDY!!! We all, of course, sympathize witli the families and their loves ones who have been directly affected. While we are hearing agreat deal of bellicosity from our government, I’m sure that we all know that vengeance is mine saith the Lord.” But the destruction of the World Trade Center Towers has radically altered this country’s concept of the moral high ground. We feel vulnerable and scared. In the future
our government is going to kill terrorists and innocent people and ask moral questions later. That’s where we are my Alpha Brothers.
Say aprayer.
Our last meeting was a great success. Brothers voted to pay an additional $200 per year as ahousing assessment. Bring your dues and the housing assessment to the next meeting. WE’RE ONE THE MOVE! It is important that all brothers pay all outstanding
assessments in order not to be dropped from the rosters of the chapter. Brothers who are elected officers in any capacity will be asked to step down from that position effective November 30, 2001 ifthe Treasurer declares indebtedness. Our total housing assessments to date are $700. Our resurrected Black and Gold Ball will be held 7:00 P.M. on Friday, December 7, 2001 at the Kellogg Center at Galludet University. At noon the next day, the next day Mu Lambda will host aFounder’s Day Luncheon Program also at the Kellogg Center. Sunday Morning, we will have an Alpha Sunday Worship service with Brother Douglas Sands at Simpson-Hemline United Methodist Church. Tlie Black and Gold and Founder’s Day Luncheon are ticketed events. Details regarding ticket availability will be announced at the October 4 meeting. Tickets for the ball are $75 pp. Tickets for the luncheon are $35 pp. Apackage deal for $100 for both ball and luncheon will be offered.
The Founder’s Day Weekend is an open event. We encourage you to invite your friends and family. Brother Kenneth “Keno” Caudle will chair the ball. Brother George Anderson has agreed to handle the luncheon. The Kellogg Conference Center has rooms available for that weekend.
Finally, the expenditure and the accounting of all funds donated to this chapter via the Foundation, the Callis Fund, or the Corporation are subject to either an internal or external audit. In addition, we need uniformity in our accounts. With this in mind. I’m requesting that all Treasurers submit financial reports immediately. Brother Alfonso Pearson is Chaimian of our Audit Committee. WE^RE ON THE MOVE!
Keeping consistent with the “on the move” theme of our administration, Ithought is would be appropriate to share with you how we as Brothers and as Americans can resolve to move on. Not to forget, but move on to reclaim some sense of nomialcy in light of the events of September 11, 2001, which, undoubtedly threw the World off balance.
The events challenged our intellect, our understanding, and our resolve to be aresilient people. But we as Americans are no strangers to struggle. We have clearly been shaken, but united we stand.
Strangely all the things that separate us in America didn’t seem to matter as much. This incident as tragic as it was has managed to galvanize America in an unprecedented fashion. Some of you may have already received the email detailed below. But it seemed to capsulate how important it is that we seek arelationship with God and “cling not to our own understanding...”

If anyone doubts God’s presence, share this...“I had avery dear friend question my faith in God right after the terrorist attack on America. Her question was simply put, “Where is your God today?” She was very hurt, as all Americans were, so Itried not to react defensively.
Since that moment Ihave prayed and grieved over the disastrous events. However, I
believe Ihave the answer. Iknow where my God was the morning of September 11, 2001! He was very busy. First of all, he was trying to discourage anyone from taking four flights that together could hold over 1000 passengers, but there were only 266 aboard. He was on 4commercial
flights giving terrified passengers the ability to stay calm. Not one of the family members who were called by aloved one on of the highjacked planes said that passengers were screaming in the background.
On one of the flights he was giving strength to passengers to try to overtake the highjackers. He was busy trying to create obstacles for employees at the World Trade Center. After all only around 20,000 were at the towers when the first jet hit. Since the buildings hold over 50,000 workers, this was amiracle in itself. How many of the people who were employed at the WTC told the media that they were late for work or they had traffic delays. He was holding up two 110-story buildings so that 2/3 of the workers could get out. Iwas so amazed that the top of the towers didn't topple when the jets impacted. And what about how America and its people have come together in prayer for our great nation and the world. It's time we
all remember where our strength comes from—GOD. He wants us
to look to Him for everything, in good times and bad. This tragedy is awake up call for the world—we need to start living right, as God’s people should.
Although this is without a doubt the worst thing Ihave seen in my life, Ican see God's miracles in every bit of it. Ikeep thinking about my friend and praying for her every chance Ihave. Ican't imagine going through such a difficult time and not believing in God. Life would be hopeless.
We can't change the wind, but we can adjust our sails!”
