MU LAMBDA CHAPTER PREPARES TO HONOR 50-YEAR BROTHERS”

MuLambdaChapterisinthemidstofcelebratingits81^year of brotherhood and service in the Washington DC metropolitan area. As one of the oldest alumni chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Mu Lambda brothers continue to create programs that promote unity, strength, and peace. During the first two months of this fraternal year, Mu Lambda continues to implement programs to uplift the community. In September, Mu Lambda brothers partnered with the Urban League and brothers from other area chapters to register local citizen to vote. In October, Mu Lambda implemented Project Alpha by working with middle school boys from Garnett Patterson Middle School. Brothers held workshops that focused on issues of responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases from the male perspective. The implementation of Project Alpha will continue at additional middle schools throughout the year. During October, Mu Lambda chapter and the Mu Lambda Foundation conducted a kickoff for the 10**’Annual Henry Arthur Callis Beautillion Program. Recently, brothers met with 14 young men and their families to discuss the upcoming program. These young men will be the core group of our program, as we work to find additional young men that could benefit from aprogram, \which improves the lives of young men is through education. The Beautillion Committee continues to work hard to make our 10 Annual Henry Arthur Callis Beautillion Program alandmark program. th

While the chapter continues to implement programs that impact the Washington DC community, it is also important to take time to recognize the brothers who have been the foundation of this fraternity and Mu Lambda chapter.

EXECUTIVE

MESSAGE (from Page 1)

On November 13^, Mu Lambda chapter will be hosting its annual Black and Gold Scholarship Gala at the Washington Times’ Arbor Ballroom. This year's gala will recognize all brothers who have been in the Fraternity for 50 years. Under the theme, Honoring 50-Year Brothers of Mu Lambda Chapter, we will honor brothers who have made heroic sacrifices and wrought deeds of valor in the civil rights struggle and in its local chapter’s programs. The Black and Gold Committee will have tickets available at the chapter meeting. This event will be the highlight of the Washington DC social season and is an excellent opportunity to invite your family and friends out to enjoy the fellowship of the chapter while we raise money to support our scholarship program.

The Black and Gold Committee looks fonward to sharing more information to the chapter about the Black and Gold Scholarship Gala at the November chapter meeting. We will also discuss the fraternity’s proposed constitutional amendments. As you may recall, brothers from across the country met in Philadelphia this summer to discuss proposed amendments to the Fraternity’s constitution. The proposed amendments have been forwarded to the chapter’s constitution committee, led by Brother Brian Halliburton, for their recommendations. During the November chapter meeting, we will review the recommendations from the constitution committee and vote on these amendments as achapter.

Iwould also like to take some time to thank Brother Alfonso Pearson for setting up ameeting with Citibank to begin arelationship between the chapter and Citibank. These types of relationships allow the chapter to expand its community-based programs. Iencourage all brothers to find ways to help the chapter develop relationships with organizations that can support efforts to create programs for the Washington DC community.

See you on November 4"’.

Remember, the meeting location is the Dental School at Howard University (5*^ Floor Classroom).

Food for thought

Brothers, AKA sponsors aCotillion every year. The young ladies average scholarship funds raised totals $20,000 using this same team concept. Let’s keep this number in mind when setting our goals and fundraising for our beaux. Also, let’s focus on the social and academic development of the young man your team is mentoring.
