EACH FOLLIES INDEPENDENT FROM EACH OTHER
FollyI shapes the landscape of Gwangju Downtown. Paths and buildings of the historical urban area of Gwangju makes a unique contrast with the newly designed (2011) follies. However, follies not yet have permeated into the citizen's daily life due to follwoing three resaons: 1. Historical context of the Folly1 path is not recognizeble 2. Districts around follies have different population composition and social interactions between the groups is lacking. 3. Majority of follies don't perfrom as working elements of the city, but stay as isolated islands.
REVIVE each folly through RESHAPING.
Let the PUBLIC REVISIT the follies and RECONNECT with the Gwangju downtown landscape and each other.

ADDING FUNCTION
HOW DO WE RESHAPE?
Respecting the original intention of Gwanju Folly, we avoided imposing rigid functions on the follies. Yet, we wanted to add elements that can stimulate people's imagination to encourage them to find their own ways to use the follies. To do this, we chose to use something we all are most familiar with as our inspiration: everyday items. With this reshaping process, follies will get placeness, link to the site, or even become more "functional."
