INKTOBER 2022

Initiated by Jake Parker in 2009, “Inktober” has grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year where a drawing in ink is to be made for each of the days of October for a given prompt. The prompt list is published by the end of September each year and artists have the freedom to interpret them in their own. Though i have been taking part in the challange for past six years, each of them are special to my heart. This booklet is a compilation of the 31 drawings made for Inktober 2022.

GARGOYLE

Day : 01

The first prompt gargoyle is depicted as a part of a statue in the corner part of the building overlooking the entire cityscape. The black sky in the background highlights the gargoyle.

SCURRY

Day : 02

Scurry refers to a flurry of snow or rain. This prompt is drawn as the snow covering the trees on a forest. Black background of the sky highlighs the snowflakes falling from the sky.

BAT

Day : 03

Bats are the creatures of the dark who hang themselves upside down from branches. The moon in the back liights up the dark sky and forms the backdrop for the bat itself.

SCALLOP

Day : 04

Scallops are edible bivalves with fan shaped shell. e prompt is very literall in this drawing where the patterned background lls in the circular area around the shell.

FLAME

Day : 05

A flame has various kind of colours and different types of light intensity. These variations are depicted through use of different types of hatch patterns.

BOUQUET

Day : 06

A bouquet of different types of flowers for the prompt of this day, can’t get any more obvious!

The flowers have different hatching techniquesand the rest is filled in solid black ink.

TRIP

Day : 07

Any trip requires packing for days and a road trip is a journey filled with memories. The struggle of fitting all the baggage and the journey itself is the prompt for the day.

MATCH

Day : 08

Instead of choosing a matching pair of anything, an ignited matchstick is taken for the prompt of the day. The wisp of smoke is drawn with stippling technique.

NEST

Day : 09

A bird’s nest with two eggs is drawn for the “nest” prompt. The branch is done with silver tone hatch and the backdrop is formed of vertical lines.

CRABBY

Day : 10

A crab with all its appandages is drawn for a crabby prompt. The stippling technique is used to show the curves and undulation of a crab’s surface on a black background.

EAGLE

Day : 11

Eagle symobolizes freedom and thus an eagle with spreaded wings is drawn for the day. The feathers of the wings are filled with black hatches while vertical hatches fill in the sky behind.

FORGET

Day : 12

A twig of forget-me-not is taken as inspiration for the forget prompt of the day. Silver tone hatch and cross hatches are used for the details and shading of the flowers and the leaves.

KIND

Day : 13

Whatever might be the form of kindness, it comes from heart and thus a biological view of human heart is drawn with various hatching tecniques to create depth and volume.

EMPTY

Day : 14

For this prompt, the dilemma between half empty and half full glass is taken as inspiration. the hatches form the edge of the glass and the ice while the water itself is kept blank.

ARMADILLO

Day : 15

An armadillo has a textured skin covered with scales. The scales are shaded with silver tone hatches and the whole armadillo is shaded in cross hatch. More lines form the backdrop of the image.

FOWL Day : 16

A roasted fowl on a thanksgiving is craved by everyone. Cross hatching is used for shading and details of the fowl whereas the vegetables around has stippling patterns.

SALTY

Day : 17

A slice of cheese is the most delicious salty food. The cheese is drawn with cross hatches while the outer cover is drawn with numerous radial lines. The base is filled in solid ink to make the cheese pop out.

SCRAPE

Day : 18

Scraping a surface by hand creates scratches. The scraped out area is left white while the rest is covered in black solid ink. The hand details are done in simple hatches.

PONYTAIL

Day : 19

A voluminous ponytail on a girl’s head from an angle is drawn for the prompt of the day.

The details of hair is drawn with fine strokes of ink and the face is left blank for contrast.

BLUFF

Day : 20

Bluff refers to a steep cliff, especially by a sea or river. Here the steep high bluff if drawn in cross hatch against the horizontal lines for the sky. The crippled line forms the fluffy clouds.

BAD DOG

Day : 21

A bad dog often goes out of hands and a caution sign is often essential in such cases. The signage for a bad dog against an wooden fence is drawn for the prompt of the day.

HEIST

Day : 22

A heist needs breaking into a system and the broken lock symbolizes a successful heist. The lock is drawn with various hatching techniques and the black solid part forms the ground of the image.

BOOGER

Day : 23

Someone picking booger out of nose is drawn for the prompt of the day. The blank white space forms the face while the horizontal lines form the background of the image.

FAIRY Day : 24

Fairytales comprises of mystical characters like pixies who are believed to be tiny creatures living in forest. Such a pixie infront of her house resting on a mushroom is drawn for the day.

TEMPTING

Day : 25

A glass of alcohol is surely tempting. The curves and the reflections on the glass are drawn with cross hatches of different intensities. the diagonal line fills in the backdrop.

Day : 26

Ego is just an immage in the mirror and thus a mirror is drawn for the “ego” prompt. The details around the mirror frame are done in rough hatches to make an old impression.

EGO

SNACK Day : 27

A deicious burger with a pack of crispy french fries is a heavy snack to keep the hunger away for quite a while. The food is drawn against a backdrop of vertical lines.

CAMPING

Day : 28

A camping night out is an adventure. The smoke from the campfire is drawn with stippling dots while the mountains in the back is formed of diagonal hatches. The black sky lits the white stars in background.

UH-OH

Day : 29

“Uh-oh” is an expression used whenever anything happens unexpectedly. The broken tea cup symbolizes such a situation. The cross hatching forms the depth of the porcelin cup.

GEAR

Day : 30

Internal gears of a clock is shown in the image for the prompt of the day. Different types of gears are drawn in different sizes and didfferent hatching techniques..

FARM Day : 31

For the very last prompt, a farmland with a farmhouse is drawn. The farmlands are formed with crippled lines and hatches in between. The horizontal lines form the sky with white clouds edged with curved lines.
