n 2014–2015, we at Jennings A. Jones College of Business have made major steps toward fulfilling our vision of national prominence and regional dominance. Among the highlights are new graduate programs, a revised undergraduate core curriculum, continuing upgrades to the Business and Aerospace Building, campus-wide leadership in technology, a new college magazine, and many other marketing efforts designed to tell the college’s great story.

I invite you to review our progress to date in this report. In the two years since I became the dean of Jones College, we have accomplished more than most business schools could have done in five years or more. The acceleration along our strategic trajectory is due to the tireless efforts of our faculty and staff, who have embraced a bold vision—one that is characterized by quality, commitment, service, and excellence.

IT Career Fair. Computer Information Systems (CIS) and AITP hosted 21 employers and 150 students.

Jones College’s chapter of the international honor society inducted 98 students. This is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International.

Jean Wilson teaches the Dale Carnegie course that is required for Jones College majors.

The Student Success Collaborative recommended Jillian Jacobson for its Specialist Program in data-driven advising.

Research Jason DeBacker visited the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee, Department of the Treasury, National Bureau of Economic Research, and American Enterprise Institute to discuss his research with computer scientists and other economists to develop a Web-based, open-source model for evaluating tax policy.

The U.S. Department of Labor used Charles Baum’s policy brief on the benefits of government-provided paid parental leave for employees at the White House Summit on Working Families.

Million Dollar Turtles, written by Wayne Rollins with Gary Bentley and published by Tekton, applies common-sense principles to entrepreneurship.

MTSU’s Distance Education Research Committee approved Ronda Henderson’s grant proposal on using interactive textbooks to “flip” the classroom. Jones College selected her application for the iPad Class Program for implementation.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek, U.S. News and World Report, and the New York Times cited Charles Baum’s “The Changing Benefits of Early Work Experience.”

NPR’s Morning Edition featured Michael Roach’s research on NFL teams and coaching changes.

aron holds a Ph.D. and an M.B.A. in strategic management and a B.S. in accounting from the University of Alabama. A former Birmingham Ernst and Young auditor and board president of Ironwood Country Club in Greenville, N.C., he serves on boards of the Small Business Institute and Rachel Lynn Smith Foundation of Durham, N.C. He has consulted with for-profits, nonprofits, and civic organizations and researches executive compensation, strategic issues facing small and medium enterprises, and corporate reputation.

He teaches strategic management to M.B.A. and undergraduate students.

rooks received a Ph.D. in management information systems from Washington State University, an M.S.B.A. (Master of Science in Business Administration) from Colorado State University, and a B.B.A. and a B.S. from Mesa State College. He has owned a computing business and developed custom software for Avanade. He consults on IT projects and database analysis. His research focuses on how overuse of social media can be detrimental to users’ emotional and professional well-being. He teaches project management and systems development and will teach data analytics and business intelligence.

B

undy received a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Kentucky and an M.B.A. and an M.A.T. (Master of Arts in Teaching) from Morehead State University. As a CPA, her audit experience with two public accounting firms focused on notfor-profits and financial institutions. She taught accounting as an adjunct at Midway College and at the secondary level. She is a financial and audit archival researcher. Her dissertation is on applying bankruptcy models to going-concern predictions in the audit setting. She has taught Principles of Accounting I, Managerial Accounting, and Intermediate Accounting II.

M

cDowell has a Ph.D. in management from the University of North Texas, M.B.A. from California State University–Dominguez Hills, and B.S. from Southwestern Christian University. Journal of Small Business Strategy editor and Small Business Institute president, he has given expert testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Full House Committee on small business. He researches strategic entrepreneurial decision making, relational context of entrepreneurial performance, and how entrepreneurs’ attributes relate to firm performance.

He teaches entrepreneurship and administers the entrepreneurship intern program.

eagraves received his Ph.D. and M.S. in real estate from Georgia State University, his M.B.A. from Emory University, and a B.B.A. in marketing from the University of Georgia.

He worked for 20 years in corporate marketing and as an entrepreneur, real estate investor/developer, and licensed real estate broker.

His research ranges from gender differences in real estate brokerage to factors affecting performance of real estate investments.

He teaches real estate courses including principles, investments, and finance and leads study-abroad trips on business analysis and international real estate.

W

illiams is completing a Ph.D. in accounting with a minor in management information systems at the University of Mississippi.

She received her M.B.A. and B.S.A. from Christian Brothers University in Memphis. Also a CPA, she worked in public accounting, specializing in automobile dealerships, and in private accounting, specializing in risk and insurance. She has held Becker Professional Education lead-instructor positions and taught Cost Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, and Principles of Accounting I and II. She has published primarily in the area of XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language).
