We are calling on alumni, former faculty and staff, and community members to contribute photographs that celebrate decades of life at Mt. Hood Community College. Each new submission adds another chapter to our shared story.

MHCC in the Community

The Class of 2026 reflects the full breadth of our community.

Our graduates range in age from 16 to 68. Some are just beginning their educational journeys, while others returned to the classroom after years away. Thirty-five are veterans, and many are the first in their families to earn a college credential.

In total, 694 students completed programs this year, earning 553 degrees and 141 certificates. These numbers represent more than academic achievement, they reflect lives changed and futures set in motion.

At MHCC, we believe education is not only a personal milestone, but a community investment. Many of our graduates are stepping directly into the workforce, helping meet critical needs across healthcare, skilled trades, business, and public service. Others will continue their education, building on the strong foundation they’ve established here.

Across every path, our students carry forward the skills, resilience, and perspective needed to make a meaningful impact. They are contributing to a stronger workforce and a more vibrant community.

“From Here, Higher” is more than a theme—it reflects the momentum our students build at MHCC and carry with them into what comes next.

We are proud of our graduates and grateful for the community that supports them. Together, we are building a future filled with opportunity.

With Tanks to Our Community: $250K Raised For one night, Mt. Hood Community College’s Yoshida Event Center transformed into MHCC Metropolis, a place where opportunity was on the line and every guest had a role to play.

But while the setting was imagined, the impact was real.

VP for Advancement and Community Engagement. “Every dollar raised helps our students rise, unlocking their potential and giving them the power to keep going and build a stronger future.”

The 2026 Saints Gala & Auction brought together the MHCC community for an unforgettable evening fueled by generosity, purpose, and a shared belief in what students can achieve.

Capes and cityscapes may have set the scene, imaginary heroes and villains, but the true power came from the people in the room and those supporting from afar.

At the center of this story are the students who discover their strengths, find their superpowers, and push forward in the face of real-life obstacles. With the right support, those superpowers become something powerful: persistence, confidence, and the ability to shape their own future.

Through the evening’s live auction and an expanded online auction, supporters stepped up in a big way— bidding, giving, and rallying around students. Each moment, each contribution, helped remove barriers and create new possibilities.

By the end of the night, the MHCC community raised more than $250,000 to support student success. These funds will go directly toward: • Scholarships that keep students enrolled • Emergency and basic needs support when it matters most • Programs that help students persist and complete their goals “The generosity we saw this year is truly inspiring,” says Jennifer Boehmer, MHCC Foundation Executive Director and 2

“I learned that there are people in this community who choose to invest in students they may never meet. People who believe in someone’s future, even before they fully believe in it themselves,” MHCC cybersecurity student and scholarship recipient Brian Teel told the audience during the evening.

“Receiving a scholarship from the MHCC Foundation wasn’t just financial support. It was someone saying, ‘You get to try.’

And that changed everything.”

From Here, Higher The Class of 2026 Powers What’s Next for Our Community At Mt. Hood Community College, “From Here, Higher” isn’t just a theme. It’s a trajectory. This year’s graduating class reflects a wide-ranging cross-section of the community, with

students at every stage of life preparing to enter, advance, or pivot within the workforce. A total of 694 students completed programs during the academic year, earning 553 degrees

Zoe is turning her passion for storytelling into a future in media. As an integrated media: video student, she’s already building real-world experience as the Communications and Media Affairs Representative for ASMHCC and earning recognition as a finalist in the 2026 InventOR Prototyping Challenge.

Jordan is building a future rooted in protecting the natural world.

Earning associate degrees in fisheries technology and general studies, he’s combined handson learning with leadership as a member of the MHCC Fisheries Club—all while balancing a full-time job. As one of the first in his family to earn a degree, Jordan said he hopes to increase representation in the fisheries field and encourage more young people to pursue environmental careers.

“When I first started, I only wanted to learn video editing,” Zoe said. “I wanted to get the degree as fast as possible...the video program prepared me for much more than that, with hands-on camera experience, as well as pitching and project management skills. I realized I would like to run a business.”

Next up: Portland State University, where she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in advertising management, becoming the first in her family to take that step.

“It would be great to see more people of color in the fisheries world to help inspire more kids to find the career,” Jordan said. “I hope I can help with that by participating in kids fishing events and teaching them all the great things about fish.”

Next up: Jordan plans to pursue a career in conservation and restoration, applying his skills where they matter most.

Citlaly is building a path rooted in education and community.

She has earned an associate of arts Oregon Transfer degree, along with associate degrees in science and general studies, while staying actively involved with on campus organizations like the First Nations Student Union and TRIO.

Jeffrey has made the most of his time at MHCC, earning associate degrees in science and general studies, along with an AAOT degree, while serving as student body president. A third-generation MHCC student, he’s continuing a family legacy while charting his own path forward.

As the first in her family to earn a college degree, Citlaly is creating new opportunities—not only for herself, but for the students she hopes to inspire.

Jeffrey said smaller class sizes, faculty support, and tutoring services helped him prepare for nursing school and future leadership opportunities.

“I have been able to interact and meet incredible instructors at MHCC who are passionate about their work and who have inspired me to be a compassionate and empathetic educator like them.”

“The professors here are so understanding and truly want everyone to succeed,” Jeffrey said. “All of these things made me feel so confident in myself and pushed me to strive in my education.”

Next up: Citlaly will continue her journey at Portland State University, working toward her goal of becoming a secondary education Dual Language Immersion teacher focused on Language Arts.

Next up: Jeffrey plans to pursue a career as a registered nurse anesthetist, combining leadership and care in a high-impact field.

and 141 certificates. These numbers represent more than academic milestones, they highlight a growing pipeline of trained workers entering industries across the region.

The youngest graduate this year is 16, while the oldest is 68, underscoring the college’s mission of serving learners at every stage of life. Among the graduates are 35 veterans and a significant number of first-generation college students, who make up 27 percent of completers.

“Graduation is not just a personal achievement for our students; it’s a community investment,” said Lisa Skari, president of Mt. Hood Community College. “Each graduate represents new skills, new energy and new opportunities that strengthen our local workforce and economy. They are utilizing their educations to advance their chosen industry. It’s exciting.”

The Class of 2026 numbers also highlight the scale of the college’s reach. More than 15,000 students were enrolled during the academic year, including community education learners. Together, they logged 189,851 credits.

The college continues to serve as a transfer pathway for students continuing their education. This year, 337 graduates transferred to four-year institutions, while 176 transferred to two-year colleges. Additionally, 1,761 dual-credit students participated in college-level coursework during high school, with some completing MHCC credentials during the same year.

For many graduates, the connection between education and community impact remains central to their goals.

“At first, it might seem difficult to see how videos could help a community,” Zoe said. “But a video could highlight the impact of people and give visibility to important work that regularly goes unnoticed.”

Jeffrey said he hopes to remain involved locally throughout his career. “I want to be able to help people as much as possible, and staying here in the community will help me give back to the place where I grew up,” he said.

new opportunities for swimmers of all ages, from kids learning water safety to athletes competing at a high level. It’s going to be worth the wait.”

Big things are taking shape at the MHCC Aquatic Center.

Construction is moving steadily forward on this major renovation, one that will transform the space into a modern, year-round facility for our entire community.

We’re continuing to work with community partners to support programs during construction and look forward to welcoming everyone back when the doors reopen.

Aquatic Center Renovation Update

Work will continue through the summer to keep that momentum going. While that means the pool won’t reopen just yet, it allows crews to stay on track and even explore opportunities to finish the project sooner.

When complete, the upgraded Aquatic Center will offer expanded opportunities for recreation, learning, and competition—making it a hub for community connection year-round.

Thank you for being part of what’s ahead.

A lot of the recent progress has been behind the scenes, focused on the foundation that will support the new structure.

It’s not the most visible work, but it’s one of the most important steps in creating a safe, durable facility that will serve the community for years to come.

Coming up next, the project will shift into more visible phases, including concrete work and installation of the new DynaDome—bringing the future Aquatic Center into view.

“We know how much this facility means to our community, and we’re just as excited about what’s ahead,” said MHCC Athletic Director Kim Hyatt. “This renovation is going to create 6

How has your experience at MHCC shaped you?

Since COVID -19, I’ve struggled with social settings and fnding my voice. However, I’ve met such unique and incredible people here, they’ve made me comfortable in my art, excited to come to class, and made me feel safe enough to show my colors.

How has your experience at MHCC shaped you?

My experience at MHCC has made me more independent and mentally stronger.

Balancing school, baseball, and daily life in a diferent country has helped me grow as both a student and an athlete.

What does being an MHCC student mean to you?

It means trudging with people who are not walking the same path as you. Individuality is precious, it ’s what makes us unique, you’re not supposed to ft in a box.

What does being an MHCC student mean to you?

Being an MHCC student means working hard every day and continuing to improve. It also means being part of a supportive community where I can pursue my goals.

What are your goals after graduation?

My goal after graduation is to continue my learning at a university and hopefully become an animator. Shows like ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ have truly inspired me to put my artwork on the big screen.

What are your goals after graduation?

My goal is to transfer to a four-year university and continue playing baseball at a higher level. I also want to keep improving my English and academic skills.

Favorite MHCC moment?

My favorite MHCC moments are the art galleries. They’re so beautiful and inspiring, I love seeing a little bit of people’s souls in their art.

My favorite moment at MHCC was competing with my teammates during the season. Playing together and overcoming challenges as a team was a very meaningful experience for me.

Teaching at MHCC felt like a kind of homecoming for Jeffrey, especially as an MHCC alum. He loves theatre, but believes actor training can help everyone, whether they strive to work as actors or not. CANCELLATION POLICY: We do not like to cancel classes; however, sometimes it is necessary to cancel before the first meeting when enrollments do not reach a minimum. If we do not have enough students registered for a class prior to its start date, it will be canceled two days beforehand. Every effort is made to notify registered students of the cancellation, by email and/or by phone. Your registration might be the one that enables the class to be held, so please REGISTER EARLY! REFUND POLICY: A 100% refund will be processed if the request is received 3 days (72 hours) prior to the first class. Community Education courses do not fall under the same drop and refund policy as credit courses at the college.

Requesting a drop/refund after the refund deadline or failure to attend a course does not absolve a student’s financial responsibility for the course.

MHCC in the Community 1. National Community College Legislative Summit MHCC President Lisa Skari and members of the Board of Education attended this annual Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) summit in February. The visit include meetings with U.S. Representative Maxine Dexter and U.S. Senators Jef Merkley and Ron Wyden to discuss federal priorities that support student success, workforce training, and the long-term health of our regional economy.

2. Greater Portland Inc. Meet the Presidents This February panel of college presidents explored the future of higher education Greater Portland Inc organized a panel of college presidents to discuss the future of higher education and the role our institutions play in strengthening our communities. MHCC President Lisa Skari joined PSU President Ann Cudd and UPC President Robert Kelly to discuss how higher education institutions are responding to workforce needs, supporting innovation, and helping communities thrive in a rapidly changing economy.

3. City of Gresham Lilac Run MHCC staf and faculty joined this annual event, which benefts community organizations that make a diference including Rockwood Market Hall, Youth Advisory Council, Magic Wheelchair, and Shooting Start Adventures.

4. CTE Day at the Capitol MHCC students and leadership joined community colleges from across Oregon in February for this annual chance to meet oneon-one with legislators. The MHCC group shared how Career & Technical Education programs are preparing students for high-demand careers and powering Oregon’s workforce.

5. Achieving the Dream’s Annual Meeting Several MHCC community members participated in Achieving the Dream’s 2026 Annual Meeting in March in Portland, where MHCC students Jefrey Erickson, Rhuan Carneiro, and Alejandro Guzman Leon shared their unique college experiences as part of a panel of students.

6. Small Business Development Center Open House MHCC’s Small Business Development Center opened its doors in March to ofer a chance for the community to meet fellow entrepreneurs, meet SBDC advisors, and enjoy delicious food, sweets, and cofee from SBDC alumni businesses.

7. Oregon Priorities Town Hall Attorney General Dan Rayfeld and Oregon State Representatives Ricki Ruiz and Zach Hudson hosted a thoughtful town hall in our college theater. We were honored to welcome them and provide a space for meaningful conversation and connection around the issues that matter most to our district community.

8. MHCC Earns Business Excellence Award MHCC has been named the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce’s Large Business of the Year, honoring our longstanding commitment to community partnership, economic development, and student success.

We received this recognition at the Business Excellence Awards, a prestigious event that celebrates businesses within our region.
