St. Patrick's Day
1 Q5
Erin Go Bragh! Blarney Spoken Here. Kiss Me, I'm Irish! Today I'm Irish, Tomorrow Hung Over. These and other similar sentiments echo throughout the Butte Valley each year on March 17. No one can really explain the strange transformation Butte and its inhabitants undergo on St. Patrick's Day, but everyone knows that Butte is THE place to be for St. Paddy's. Everything from beer to the people's faces is green. People come from all over to join in the merriment and share the Trish good will. In Butte on St. Patrick's Day, everyone's Irish!

112 Mineral Museum
The Mineral Museum al Montana Tech was Incorporated in March 190 1 . Al that lime there were 177 mineral specimens for teaching purposes which grew to the present size of 15,000 specimens. Many of the specimens were purchased from the Foote Mineral Company, while other specimens from throughout the world came from donations. The museum is located on the 2nd floor of the Museum Building. The present mineral collection Is estimated to Include approximately 15,000 specimens, of which 1 ,300 are on display. For each mineral specimen in the collection, there is a card on which pertinent information such as name, locality, donor. size. accesion number. Hey number and drawer number are recorded. Generally, the finest or most interesting specimens are on display. The most popular exhibit is that of nuroscent minerals housed in a separate. dark room. Another popular exhibit is one of large Brazilian geodes that are lined with crystals of purple amethyst. The Bulle display now contains 37 different minerals from this world-famous mining district. A special display of Bulle minerals includes photographs of Butte dating from 1887 lo the present and a geologic map of the district. An index enables the visitor interested in seeing a specimen of a particular mineral to locate that mineral in one of the display cases. The most obvious activity of the Mineral Museum is that of maintaining a facility that is open to the public free-of-charge. Fine specimens from throughout the world will always be welcome additions lo the

In the land of Gold and Copper, Whue the ground is full of holes, As a hope is full of messes, Or a sea is full of shoals; In the land amoung the mountains, On .a hill that looks a brute, On a gray-green hill of granite, Is the busy town of Butte. In the land of Gold and Copper, With the sage-brush~ here and there, Where the yellow aspens tremble Like the sunshine in the air; You can hear the old prospector, With hi~ tale beyound dispute, How re found the mint of Midas, Underneath the town of Butte. In the land of Gold and Copper, There is hope in every breast, And a vein of mammon-fancy Sleeping idly in its nest. Take me back, I'm tired of dying, For the treasure that is hiding Underneath the town of Butte.

SSSS
Take me back to dear Montana, Where the streams are ful 1 of trout, And the world is full of bigness; For I cannot die, without Just another try for glory; Then, I want the little flute That will play the final music, To be playing out in Butte. Let me creep along at night-fall, When the air is crimp and chill, Till I see the diamonds sparkle Like a brooch upon the hill; Like a bright star newly shattered, With the spangles scattered. Mute, Just to make it look like heaven, When you 1re coming back to Butte.
She s a queen of mountain fancy, With a dias cut on stone. Richest hill in all creation For a gold and copper throne; She was born of hero-parents, So we raise a round salute To the little monarch maiden Of the mountains, Ha i 1 to Butte. 1

A message for graduates In addition to a time for celebration, graduation marks a point in personal development. You have invested time and effort in yourself. Now, you're ready for the next step in life. Each member of the Entech family of companies is like an individua!. Each works toward goals, accomplishes them and moves on to new challenges. Among those challenges is identifying new opportunities and acting on them. That is how American business continues to grow, producing new products and creating career opportunities for each year's crop of graduates. We offer congratulations for your accomplishment and sincere wishes for a productive future as you take new steps and meet new challenges in your life.

This was the last page of the book to be completed, thus ending my job for the year. I would like to say this year has been a challenge. The MAGMA office was moved to
the basement of the Mining-Geology building- thanks guys for letting us stay there. Our darkroom went to the Museum Building- thanks Dennis for putting us up in your darkroom. Hopefully we will be back in our office in the Student Union Building thus enabling you, the students, to stop by and see us once again. With the MAGMA staff spread out all over campus, or worse, not even knowing where we went, the book still was finished. I would like to thank Aloha, Emily, Peru, Dan, the girls in the class and the photographers for their help in producing this year's MAGMA. Special thanks goes to Don Miller for keeping MAGMA going this year. He is aware of the staff changes we had this year. Also thanks go to Barbara Kenison our Herff Jones representitive for her help and constant support of our effort.
If you've read this far then you must be somewhat interested in the book and T invite any and all students, faculty, and staff who wish to change, correct, add, orjust put their two cents worth into the book to do so. You pay for the book so you might as well have your input into the matter. Once again I'll say thank you to all who helped and I hope you like the cover, I do. Trent W. Green MAGMA Editor 1987-1988
