The 1992 football season was a very successful one for the Orediggers. Tech's gridders compiled a record of 7 wins and 3 losses. They captured the Frontier Conference Championship, achieved "top twenty" rating status through_out most of the season, and advanced to the N.A.I.A. Division II National Championship Play-Offs. The Diggers' appearance in the National Play-Offs was their first in 21 years, and only the second in Tech's history. The '92 Orediggers played wide open, exciting, crowd-pleasing football. They displayed a knack for making big plays at the right time.

The 1992-93 season saw the Oredigger women's basketball season survive a most challenging nonconference slate. Besides fighting their way through the always tough four-game format of the Frontier Conference season, they were able to advance one step further than they had in the past five years. After claiming second in ~he league, they came from behind to beat Carroll College in the first play-off game. This allowed them a spot in the title game where they were out-scored by

the number one nationally-ranked Northern Montana College Skylights.

The 1992-93 edition of the Oredigger basketball team will certainly be onei to remember. Montana Tectl won its third Frontier I Conference Championship i~ ! the last six years and advanced to the NAIA District 812 semi-finals before ending their season at Black Hills State. The first indication of the year to come, came in the very first game of the season versus nationally ranked Albertson's College when the Orediggers upended them 90-78. Tech also won tough nonconference games against Scott Witt also set the school record for point, NCM National Tournament nc o r ed with a total of 1, 90 l in a career, He !bound Colorado Christian was named Player of the Year in the Frontier and NAIA powerhouse East r;onference. Joining him on the All-Conference Central Oklahoma. Another Team were teammates Don Flynn and Jeff Timm, highlight to the nonconference schedule was a chance to play Utah and Utah State; two tough NCM Division I foes. Although the Diggers lost both games, it was a grea experience for the players. Soon after those games the Orediggers traveled to Western Montana to open the Frontier Conference season and left with two victories over the Bulldogs. That was the first sweep for Tech at Western in recent history and 1 that set the tone for the rest of the conference season. Tech finished the season at 12-4; one game ahead of Norhtern Montana to win the regular season championship. The two would meet, though, for a fifth time in MOntana Tech's HPER Complex to determine the Frontier representative in the District #12 semi's. After 40 minutes of play the teams were stalemated at 78-78. Then, maybe the bes~ individual performance in the history of Montana Tech took place when Scott Witt scored nine straight points to lead Tech in overtime 94-88 to the Tournament Championship! "This was a most enjoyable year for me," stated Coach Dessing. "This was a great team to coach and just be around. They worked as a unit and won because of u:.n.e_t~Am ~ffort

Covernor Racicot promised to fulfill his ear.lier prom:Lse that ~~e would not let the university system fall any more than it already had. Even though the banners and posters of the students

The students •ere all encour~ged to keep Up the fight by everyone except the Racicot administration. "The fighr will continue, because it must continue to preserve the progr~ms and reputation of Montana's universities," said ~ontana 'fcch Student Pat Leathrum. "I only hope the Montana Associated Students will not stop here, but will organize more rallies of this sort, and will give input to the Racicot administration vith other options bes tdea r~ising tuition and cutting programs."

Pigging Out on purpose in public is what the Hoge-a-Thon at Mt Tech' s radio station, KMSM, is all about. Only nine of the forty-five students who entered the contest were fortunate enough to be chosen for a chance to win by eating a loaded foot-long submarine sandwich the fastest. The winner for the past two years, Paul Akridge, didn't fair so well this year. Jason Rasmussen prevailed by polishing off his sub in 4 minutes 9 seconds. Other participants finished in 5 to 12 minutes. However, Evan Lowe wasn't "hog" enough to eat it all. The winners received prizes, everyone took home a T-shirt and some sort of antacid, and no one needed a barf bag.

As finals approach, we all need a break from the books, so for eighty-three years MT Tech has celebrated M-Days. The overwhelming homework load coupled with Spring's tantalizing warm weather create the disease known to all students as Spring Fever. Those who suffer from the disease sit on the campus lawn doing homework while exposing their winter white legs to the soon-to-be summer sun. Without sunglasses, they find that Mr. Sun has the powerful ability to glue their eyes shut. To officially welcome spring, participants of M-Days relish the three days of eating, laughing, dancing, drinking and playing. M-Days gives students a chance to breathe a little before they hit the books hard for the dreaded days of finals.

The Magma staff (Shanna, Lou1e, Kelly, Mark, Sid, and myself) know you loved it. Hopefully the countles$ hours of the days and nights we' camped out in the Magma office paid o.ff. We a-11 worked hard to produce what we consider one of the best yearbooks ever--we hope you agree. I -want to thank the entire staff for their help in produc~ion. You did a great job. Special thanks goes to Tracy Hughes, who wasn't even a staff member, but was forced to volunteer her time to layout whe~ the going got tough. Thanks also goes to Dr. Joanne Cortese, who periodically served as my advisor when I needed advice. G1od luck to next year's staff. Louie and I are retiring and wi1'1 be sitting back and laughing at the frantic staff as they thiow together their last few pages to meet the deadlines. Have ..µin, guys! I also wish to thank the students at MT Tech who voted to

keep the Magma at our college. Without you and your money we could never exist. And next year, when someone says, "Say Cheese! , " S(>"i I'!'! Peace, Rachael Clark Krusemark Editor
