Butte, Montana
Butte • • • High upon a hill is a town with an abundance of history. A town that has experienced mining for gold, silver, copper. Butte has gone through boom times and depression times. A metropolis that at one time had over I 00,000 residents, Butte has seen the War of the Copper kings, and the closing of the Berkeley Pit. It has also had its good times. Big band dances, the merry-go-round, biplanes and the roller coaster at the Columbia Gardens; The boast of being the "City of Champions" in '81; proximity to outdoor recreation areas for all seasons; the annual 4th of July parade and fireworks. And enrollment records yearly at Montana Tech. High on a hill in the town on a hill lies Montana Tech - home of the "Orediggers" a variety of mineral related curriculums, and friendly faces. Along with Butte, Tech becomes a temporary home for our time of study. We should take every opportunity to recall our life and times in Butte and at the school on the hill.

Kristi Named All-American -
Volleyball Shines at Montana Tech In a volleyball season that saw the Lady Orediggers at the top of the Frontier Conference for the second straight season, Kristi Hoklin emerged as a member of the Academic All-American Volleyball team. Kristi, a computer science Major, was co-captain of the 1982 Digger team. Along with academics and volleyball Kristi kept her senior year busy as Vice President of ASMT and a leader on the Lady Digger Basketball team. Coach Linda Schoenstedt had nothing but prai e for Kristi: "Her attitude is outstanding and one of unselfishness. Kristi will ucceed in anything she desires in life." Said Academic Dean, Dr. Roy Turley, "Kri ti i an excellent example of the model student-athlete." Montana Tech is proud to have Kristi as the representative to such a distinguished team.

We here at the Magma have spent many hours compiling this yearbook for the students, administration, faculty and staff. We tried to bring back the special moments that slip away unnoticed. We hope you enjoy this yearbook and realize the time it took to cover all the events possible. I would like to express my thanks to the staff: Mark Baerlocher, Bender Brown, Curry, Hettick, Hipp, Holm: (Nicki, Eric, Narda), Knerr, Lloyd, Malkovich, 01 o Polson, Riley (Robert, Russ), Seitz, and Zorn. Don Miller, our advisor, helped in the rough times to get us working in orde to insure prompt delivery of this yearbook. Thanks again to the staff and Don.
