Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School (MTCES) has always prided itself on being a community of faith with a commitment to excellence. This is my third year as Principal/CEO and it has been amazing to hear all the details surrounding the history of growth since the school opened in 1998. I am proud to be a member of a Team committed to growth and responding to the needs of the MTCES community.

Mission Statement Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School is a private Catholic school founded in the spirit of Saint Teresa of Calcutta where students are educated and encouraged to grow in personal faith. Students are called to be witnesses to Jesus Christ as they maximize their God-given spiritual, intellectual, physical, and moral capabilities.

MTCES has experienced growing enrollment trends over the years. As a result, the facilities have also expanded. We are currently 653 students strong and thriving on Mother Teresa Lane. The mission and vision for Catholic education at this location, as laid out by the Founding Families, lives on in the hearts of all of those in our MTCES community.

The generosity of our benefactors is a blessing to our community and has allowed us to grow and thrive over these twenty-five plus years. We are a strong community rooted in the spirit of Volunteerism and a tradition of family support. We strive to “Live the Name” each and every day.

Mother Teresa reminds us, “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.”

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we’d like to start off with a simple thank you. Thank you for putting your faith in our leadership team, thank you for putting your trust in our wonderful teaching staff, and thank you for all your continued support, ensuring Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School remains the best place to be.

As you have seen firsthand, MTCES has been in operation for now over 25 years, and we couldn’t be more excited about our current state. Built on a strong desire to bring Catholic education to our local community, the founding families and Sister Anne embarked on a journey in 1998, starting MTCES in the basement of Our Lady of Sorrows in Monroe.

Fast forward 25 years, who would have thought we would be as blessed as we are today? With over 72,000 square feet of campus, 653 students and the absolute best staff of approximately 75 employees, the vision continues to expand. We couldn’t be more grateful.

As we reflect on our annual performance, our school continues to remain in a very good position.

We have been able to find creative ways to ensure we create an affordable offering: seeking local and federal grants, improved volunteerism, and receiving some generous donations, all while maintaining tuition rates lower than the other local private school options. We are also very proud of the work we have been able to complete to improve the safety of our students and faculty around the campus. And finally, we are extremely proud of the results we continue to see in the classroom, with consistent student growth demonstrated through standardized testing. Our plans are working, and it wouldn’t be possible to achieve this without the level of engagement our families provide on a daily basis.

The Board of Trustees continues to be very mindful of the variety of options available within our community, and we sincerely value the decision you have made for your family to be a part of the MTCES community. Each member of our Board has children who attend our school, each member of our Board is a volunteer within our community, and each member of our Board participates in annual financial appeals. We operate under the strict guidelines of “Heads In, Hands Out” to ensure the staff at MTCES has the proper support needed. All of these actions, hopefully you will find, underscore the confidence we have in the school for today, and well into the future.

In closing, there is so much to be proud of after this year, but let us not forget that it requires our successful handling of unique responsibilities as an independent school. We enjoy a close relationship with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the Lakota Local School District, but we are almost entirely self-reliant when it comes to funding and daily operation of our school. Our continued success is due to the sacrifice of everyone in our community – faculty, staff, administration, parents, families and supporters. Thank you!

FOSTERING STUDENT GROWTH A familiar theme runs through conversations at Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School–growth. Not only has our school grown in size with more students enrolled than ever before, but our students continue to grow academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Our commitment to support and nurture this growth remains unwavering.

Each day our team of dedicated professionals is challenged to meet the needs of the students who fill our classrooms. Through a rigorous, differentiated curriculum designed to support learners at all levels, our classroom teachers bolster student growth across the curriculum.

Visits to the St. Teresa of Calcutta chapel, a commitment to growth in students personal prayer lives, and regular celebration of the Eucharist all support student spiritual growth. This is at the heart of who we are and our commitment to nurturing the Catholic faith in all members of our school community.

But student growth doesn’t stop there. Our School Counselors design grade level programming to support student social-emotional growth. Engaging students in learning about adapting to change, dealing with friendship challenges, and creating a culture of kindness are just a few areas on which they focus. Combined with the aforementioned efforts, our students are ready to embrace life’s challenges across the board.

Your continued prayers and support allow our students to further grow into the people that God calls them to be so that they can go out and one day change the world.

Building Bright Futures

NURTURING FAITH It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as the Campus Minister at MTCES. The students, staff, administration and parents that make up this vibrant community are some of the best I have worked with in my 40 years of ministry. It is wonderful to be a part of a school culture that is so dedicated to incorporating our Catholic faith into the daily lives of students.

Faith formation is weaved into our student’s daily routines in a number of ways; including morning prayer with weekly scripture quotes, bi-weekly all school Mass, Holy Days of Obligation, religion class for all grades, and Reconciliation for grades 38 during Lent.

We are also incredibly blessed to have a dedicated worship space in our school. The St. Teresa of Calcutta Chapel is used frequently for educational purposes that foster faith formation. The entire student body participates in Eucharistic Adoration once each trimester. Each time we conclude the Exposition of the Eucharist with Benediction. The Chapel is also visited heavily during Lent by all of our students to pray the Stations of the Cross. The Chapel also aids in helping students learn about the symbolic meaning behind the various sacred objects found inside.

Our worship space is not ornate, but was a labor of love just like the rest of our school. The Chapel was made possible thanks to the many wonderful donors, project managers, designers and volunteers who so graciously gave of their time, treasure and talent to bring it to life.

Whenever, you are at MTCES for a visit, I encourage you to stop by our Chapel to experience its charm and maybe say a prayer or two.

HONORING 25 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE A Momentous Year For MTCES To mark the milestone of our 25th anniversary, the MTCES community gathered together for a special Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, the very place where our school’s journey began.

As we celebrated our 25th anniversary, we honored the legacy of those who have been part of our journey, from students and teachers to administrators and alumni. It was a time to reflect on all MTCES has accomplished through the years.

From humble beginnings to becoming a thriving school of 653 students, the past 25 years have been a journey of continuous growth. A commitment to providing high-quality education, nurturing creativity, and spiritual growth has been at the core of our mission.

Along the way, MTCES has helped shape the futures of thousands of students, and built a community that thrives on collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity.

Our mission remains the same today—to provide an outstanding Catholic education that is rooted in faith, academic excellence, and community service. Give Your Hands To Serve And Your Hearts to Love - St. Teresa of Calcutta

SERVING WITH PURPOSE Following in the footsteps of St. Teresa of Calcutta, students at MTCES “Live the Name” by participating in various outreach programs. Past outreach programs have supported: Hawthorne Glen, Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament’s School and Orphanage in Haiti, Reach Out Lakota, and Matthew 25 Ministries, just to name a few.

In addition to the above-mentioned charities, the MTCES Student Council chooses organizations to support each month and holds fundraisers to support those causes.

Students have numerous opportunities to engage in community service and make a positive impact. Some of the programs available include; Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Club for third and fourth graders, fifth and sixth grade Service Club, Cub Scouts, and American Heritage Girls.

As part of the eighth-grade curriculum, students engage in Magnified Giving.

Through this program, students explore philanthropy, service, social causes, and community nonprofits, ultimately granting at least $1,000 to three different nonprofits.

NEW MEASURES AND SAFETY RESOURCES MTCES has consistently focused on evaluating and enhancing the safety and well-being of its students and staff. In recent years, the school has allocated resources toward improving security measures. During the 20232024 school year, MTCES applied for and was successfully awarded a Nonprofit Security Grant sponsored by the Ohio Department of Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA). Out of many applicants, MTCES was one of only ninety recipients. This grant will be used to install electro mechanical doors at six locations throughout the building, as well as help fund the position of a School Resource Officer at MTCES. Beginning in February, 2023 Deputy Hoctor became an integral part of our school community, ensuring a secure environment for learning, supporting our students, and fostering positive relationships with everyone.

Having a full-time SRO allows us to better focus on proactive safety measures, provide guidance, and be an accessible resource for students and families.

HOW WE “LIVE THE NAME” At Mother Teresa, we believe in fostering a positive environment where kindness and good behavior are celebrated. To encourage students to continue making thoughtful, kind choices, we’ve introduced “Live the Name” Tickets. These tickets are awarded when teachers/staff notice students going out of their way to do good—whether it’s helping a peer, showing respect, or simply making someone’s day better.

Each spring, one student from each homeroom in grades 4-8 is selected to receive the Mother Teresa Award for exemplifying the characteristics of our namesake, Mother Teresa.

CLASS OF 2024 The class of 2024 graduated in a formal ceremony on May 21, 2024 in the Sister Anne Schulz Student Center. As a result of their success on the high school placement test, this talented class received over $690,000 in scholarship offers to area high schools.

To keep tuition costs down while continuing on the path for growth, MTCES conducts the Spirit of Mother Teresa (SOMT) appeal annually. The actual cost of educating a child at MTCES is significantly higher than tuition. The SOMT annual appeal raises the dollars necessary to help close this gap and support academic excellence and facilities improvements. Last academic year (July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024), our generous donors contributed $193,700 to the appeal and exceeded our $175,000 goal.

$4,599 Raised for Reach Out Lakota 129 coats, 79 pairs of gloves, 102 winter hats, & 19 scarves collected for Reach Out Lakota $5,450 Raised for various charitable organizations 1697 pairs of socks collected for Serve City Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, MTCES participates in the EdChoice Expansion Program. The EdChoice Expansion Scholarship Program provides state-funded scholarships to K-12 students based on household income level. Scholarship funds are available annually for every K-12 student in Ohio and provide direct benefits to MTCES families

ARCHDIOCESE OF CINCINNATI CEF-SGO As an Ohio taxpayer, you have the opportunity to redirect your tax dollars to support Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School.

The state of Ohio has a tax program called Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO), where individuals may receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit toward their state tax liability for gifts up to $750 per donor, or up to $1,500 if married and filing jointly.

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has created an approved SGO through the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) for all schools in the archdiocese. Through the CEF-SGO, you can redirect your tax dollars to support MTCES tuitionassistance fund.
