On 12 March 1999 Poland joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This day marked the culmination of many years of efforts and transformations which had taken place in our country since 1989.
Today Poland is a reliable and proactive member of the Alliance, fulfilling its obligations towards NATO and other Allies. Poland takes part in Allied missions, operations, and exercises.
On the twentieth anniversary of Poland's accession to NATO we express our gratitude to all those who contributed to Poland's entry into the Alliance, thanks to which Poles feel safe today.
We salute all Polish soldiers serving on missions and operations, and we pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
