WHY

they chose MISSOURI SOUTHERN MICHAEL FLATER Fort Scott, KS “I chose Missouri Southern because it is affordable and I could see the opportunities that I could accomplish here compared to other colleges. The instructors are helpful, friendly, and their open office hours make it convenient to ask for help on homework or advice. I’ve made more friends and colleagues here than I thought I would. Missouri Southern was the best ‘next step’ for my education.”

ISABELLA GAWLIK Bartlesville, OK

IF YOU LIVE IN THE GREEN AND GOLD THEN YOU WILL RECEIVE OUR IN-STATE TUITION! Our Lion Pride Tuition assists those students living outside of Missouri in either ARKANSAS, ILLINOIS, IOWA, KANSAS, KENTUCKY, NEBRASKA, OKLAHOMA, TENNESSEE or TEXAS by giving them our in-state tuition rate! Once admitted, Lion Pride residents not only recieve in-state tuition but, if qualified, have the opportunity to receive scholarships as well. Visit mssu.edu/admissions to learn how affordable MSSU can be! 4

“The option of attending Missouri Southern was brought to my attention due to its education program. With it being an out-of-state university, I immediately thought of the problems I could meet financially. Discovering Lion Pride Tuition was a huge relief and was the key to me ultimately choosing Southern to further my education.”

ARMONTA AKERS Chicago, IL “I chose Southern for multiple reasons. The Lion Pride in-state tuition helps tremendously. This allows me to be an out-of-state student but pay an in-state price. This is an uncommon luxury that many colleges and universities don’t have. I also chose Southern because it has a peaceful, calm environment which allows me to stay focused and get work done. Lastly, the staff goes beyond measures to make sure we succeed.” 5

“Going in as a freshman I didn’t know much about the financial aid process, but the office at MSSU was so friendly and helpful I was able to get my FAFSA done on time and take care of everything I needed. I now work in the office as a student employee and have for the past two years. This has made me realize just how important it is for students to complete all the documents on time in order to maximize on the amount of finances available to them. I love being able to work with the Financial Aid office to help other students get prepared and learn more about how to pay for college.” - Josh Allmon Junior, Communications Major

INTERNATIONAL

OPPORTUNITIES mssu.edu/international-studies

MSSU’s international program offers students bold and innovative programs and activities designed to make them competitive in a fastchanging world and global economy. Themed semesters are the most distinctive and tangible aspect of MSSU’s effort to internationalize the curriculum. The theme is chosen every fall and then celebrated throughout the year, with culture-enriching events including film festivals, native guest speakers and a dinner in honor of the traditional cuisine. MSSU has won an award for its themed semesters from NAFSA: Association of International Educators for internationalizing the campus. Ever thought about visiting another country, but don’t know when or how? Choose to study abroad from Missouri Southern and better yet, choose for how long! We offer a full semester abroad, or if that is too long then look into our two-week trips during the summer. There is not a right or wrong way to do it! In order to make the trip more affordable, we offer our students additional grant money. If you qualify, you could get an additional $1,000 grant for a short-term trip or $1,250 for a semesterlong trip!

MSSU Study Abroad

HAVE YOU VISITED JOPLIN LATELY? The campus is located in Joplin, Mo. – a community of more than 50,000 people with a service area of 400,000. Missouri’s fourthlargest metropolitan area, Joplin is located only two hours or less from cities such as Kansas City, Tulsa, Springfield, Fayetteville, and Branson - cities that offer an additional plethora of entertainment and recreation opportunities. Joplin is also a great place to live if you love the outdoors. We’re close to Missouri’s famous Ozark Mountains, as well as numerous rivers, lakes, parks and hiking trails. There are a number of outdoor, sporting and family activities to enjoy in this part of the country. Check out Joplin beyond the borders of campus: • Join in walking downtown Main Street every month for a culture fair called “Third Thursday” • Attend concerts, art showings, live theater and movies • Enjoy go-karts, batting cages, painting and pottery classes, bowling alleys, mini golf, hiking and biking trails, skating and more! • Attend professional and pre-professional sporting events in between cheering on the MSSU Lions! We hope you’ll consider making Joplin your home and becoming part of the Missouri Southern pride.
