O

n behalf of the Missouri Southern Foundation Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to share this report on the performance of your

endowment for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. This report reflects our ongoing commitment to transparency and to keeping you informed about both the Foundation’s overall investment performance and the specific activity of your individual endowment, which you’ll find detailed on page eleven.

I am pleased to share that the Foundation’s investment portfolio achieved an exceptional 12% return for the twelve-month period. This strong performance is a testament to the diligent work of our Foundation Investment Committee and our investment partners, the Fund Evaluation Group (FEG) of Cincinnati, Ohio. While FY 2025 was an outstanding year, it’s also important to note that over the past 16 years, our portfolio has earned an average annual return of 7.9%—surpassing our long-term target of 7%. This target is carefully designed to balance annual distributions, fees, and inflation to preserve the enduring strength of each endowed fund. It is truly an honor for the Missouri Southern Foundation to serve as the steward of your philanthropic investment in support of our students and academic programs. The names of the Foundation’s Board of Directors for FY 2025 appear on the page opposite this letter, representing a group of dedicated leaders who generously lend their expertise and guidance in support of our mission. Your original gift—and the continued support that sustains it—creates a legacy that will benefit Missouri Southern students for generations to come. Every day on campus, we see firsthand the transformative impact of philanthropy on students’ lives. Your generosity continues to open doors, create opportunities, and inspire success. Thank you for your trust in the Missouri Southern Foundation and for your enduring commitment to our students and university. With gratitude,

Michelle Wood Vice President for University Advancement, MSSU Executive Director, Missouri Southern Foundation

T

he Missouri Southern Foundation generates earnings from annual interest based on the performance of

its endowed fund investments. To ensure consistent financial management, the Foundation Board of Directors establishes an annual spending policy, determining the allocation of earnings for expenditure and reinvestment. This approach maintains predictability in the disbursement of funds from endowed sources. The strategic management of endowment fund balances ensures the preservation of long-term assets, supporting the needs of current and future students. The Board of Directors of the Missouri Southern

Foundation determines an endowment spending policy, subject to annual board approval. For Fiscal Year 2025 (July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025), the spending rate was set at 4% of the 3-year rolling average of the total market value of each permanent and quasi-endowment fund as of June 30th.

EXAMPLE: The 3-year rolling average of XYZ Endowment is $100,000. The allocation of earnings would be:

$4,000 (4%)

is spent for the purpose of the endowment.

$1,750 (1.75%)

is used for the endowment management fee.

If more than $5,750 (spend rate + endowment management fee is generated, the excess is added back to the endowment to offset inflation.
