For those who qualify, Federal Student Aid Programs provide economic assistance to help pay for college. These programs include grants, loans, and work-study positions. Eligibility for most programs is based upon demonstrated financial need. Learn more about these programs at sfa.msstate.edu.

Beginning October 1, 2022, you can complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool and include Mississippi State University’s federal code: 002423. Learn more at studentaid.gov.

For qualified Mississippi residents: MTAG, MESG, and HELP are grants available through msfinancialaid.org.

Additional out-of-pocket expenses vary by student for books, supplies, personal, and transportation. An average annual estimate for these expenses is $6,745. Tuition and Fees listed are for the 2022–2023 academic year and are subject to change without notice by the Board of Trustees-Mississippi State Institutions of Higher Learning. Amounts listed are the Primary Expenses for MSU and are all required for each entering freshman.

Mississippi State’s automatic academic scholarships for Mississippi residents are listed in the chart below and based on ACT/SAT scores and GPA for 9th-11th grades. These are annual amounts. Additional scholarships are available based on the General Scholarship Application (GSA), which opens October 1, 2022. Once admitted, submit the GSA through your myState account by December 1, 2022 (priority date) for maximum consideration of additional scholarships. Students who are admitted to MSU before December 1, 2022, and who have a 30 ACT or 1400 SAT and 3.75 GPA, will be invited to join the Shackouls Honors College. Students who do not meet the above criteria can apply for membership to the Shackouls Honors College after they are admitted to MSU.
