ow, what a fun whirlwind winter it’s been! I began February with some meaningful fundraising for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis and enjoyed the fun-filled MS Snow Tour in Lac Du Flambeau. From there, we traveled to Springstead, WI, for the annual Skinner Ride, and then it was off to Manitowish Waters for the KAOS Leadership Ride with the Next Gen Riders, Miss Snowflake, and a few AWSC Board Members.

Thank you to all the landowners who kindly allow us trail access and club members who selflessly volunteer their time each year to keep the trails in great shape. I hope many of you got out there to enjoy the wonderful trail system many individuals work so hard to keep up!

Looking ahead, I’m excited about the reports we’ll continue to uncover and share next season. There’s always something new in the world of snowmobiling, and I can’t wait to highlight more adventures, successes, and community efforts. RAISING DUES FOR A STRONGER FUTURE: A TOUGH BUT NECESSARY DECISION

R

aising dues for any organization is a difficult decision but sometimes necessary to ensure long-term viability and sustainability. As financial pressures increase and the demands for services and resources grow, it is evident that increasing dues is inevitable. We all know how the last couple of years have affected personal finances, let me explain how the economy has affected the snowmobile program.

First off, prices have risen, from office supplies to rent to utilities inflation has invaded all aspects of life. The AWSC operates on your $12.00 dues and the $100 raffle tickets that we sell. Keep in mind that membership fluctuates. A good snow season would certainly help. We do not receive any money from trail passes. The trail pass fees go to the segregated snowmobile fund to help pay for trail maintenance, grooming, infrastructure, and local law enforcement.

Although this money is run through our office it goes directly back to the DNR. The membership dues that are collected by the AWSC pay our office manager and any staff that she needs to assist in running the day-to-day operations. These expenses include taxes, FICA, and workman’s comp for all employees. We also pay an association coordinator, who works part-time when needed. Other expenses include the magazine, and day-to-day operations of the office which include but are not limited to rent, utilities, IT, office supplies, copiers, ACSA dues, postage, and insurance. We also pay officer and director mileage. The next biggest expense is legal and lobbying fees to pay our attorney and lobbyist. These are incurred whenever we have legislation or legal issues. Last year we had several issues that we did not anticipate.

We try to supplement our dues with raffles; however, these amounts fluctuate depending on how many tickets are sold. This year we have added a calendar raffle but again it will depend on how many calendars are sold. These amounts are hard to put into a budget as they are not a given amount.

however these are booked three years in advance. It would cost the association to cancel these events at this time.

Last year we had an income of $672,891.13 and expenses of $735,120.58 for a loss of $62,229.58. The consensus of the directors was to increase dues by $5.00. This will provide a little cushion for future expenses. It will provide consistency and stability so that we do not need to come back in a couple of years to address this again.

An organization’s long-term financial health depends on its ability to generate revenue that matches its growing needs. If dues remain stagnant over time, there may not be enough funds to support the organization. Raising dues is a proactive measure that helps the organization remain financially healthy and effectively secure the resources needed to meet future challenges. While it may not be a popular decision, it is necessary to ensure the longevity and success of the AWSC. Discussion has also started with our lobbyist and key legislators introducing a bill to increase registration fees, trail passes for club and non-club members and out-of-state users. These increases will greatly affect the amount of money in the snowmobile fund for infrastructure and maintenance. Watch for more information on this as we may request you contact your legislator to ask for support with this legislation.

Report Fund Raising Results Len Neisler sends out a survey each March to each club on behalf of the International Snowmobile Council (ISC). In the survey, clubs are asked to report any donations to charity, both on the local and national level. The ISC collects the information from this survey and releases a report highlighting the results. This report is accurate only if all clubs complete this survey. Watch for the survey in your inboxes in March.

ere it is, March, and that means spring is right around the corner! Seems like only yesterday we started taking memberships and trail pass orders for the 2024-2025 season.

Sorry, that snow didn’t show up as planned.

The Spring Convention and Annual Meeting are being planned. The AWSC Annual Convention will be held in Green Bay, WI (Oneida Hotel & Conference Center), March 28-30, 2025. All clubs should have received convention information in a mailing sent to the club membership chair via USPS, in the middle of January. The information was also emailed to all club officers that we have email addresses for. Of course, both these statements are only true if we have updated officer information for your club.

Memberships both personal and commercial sponsor memberships will expire on 6/30/25.

Remember if you have members who are actually commercial sponsors, they should be listed as a commercial sponsor, not a family membership. Business names are no longer being accepted under family membership.

We have listed on the website a current list of all commercial sponsors that is printable.

Consider the online membership application where the members can receive an email immediately when their AWSC membership has been renewed, along with the ability to print an AWSC membership card. This needs to be selected on a by-club basis, have your club membership chair inquire with the office, to have this change made.

Now is also the time to discuss within your club the change in the membership dates and the fact that you will need to renew your membership with your club so your AWSC dues are paid prior to purchasing your 2025-2026 trail pass. Those passes go on sale on 7/1/2025.

If your club elects officers in the spring, please have your officer list updated.

To finish up the day, the second annual Ride with the Queen took place on the trails across Barron County to allow riders the opportunity to check out local club sheds, appreciate the work put into the local trails, and learn more about all they do for their communities. A big shout out to the local recreational officers of Barron County and the local club representatives for hosting groups of snowmobilers on the county trails for the day. It was such a great way to unite together on the trails we all enjoy.

e officially have snow in Wisconsin! After a lot of patience and prayers, getting out and riding with fellow snowmobilers across the state has been so rewarding.

February kicked off with the annual MS Snowmobile Tour and I couldn’t think of a better organization to get my skis on snow with.

Hundreds of riders and I took to the trails to help raise awareness and funds for those battling with Multiple Sclerosis. It was such a heartwarming experience to have those near and dear to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society along for the tour and speak out about their experiences with this life-changing disease. I look forward to helping raise awareness for those affected and sharing many memories with you all for years to come!

It’s truly been such a special month getting to visit clubs across the state and ride on the beautiful trails that they pride themselves on preparing for snowmobilers in Wisconsin. This community-built across our association manages to strengthen my love for this sport every day! Thank you to all who have been a part of my journey so far, and I can’t wait to make memories with many more of you as my Miss Snowflake reign continues to unfold. Kids and adults were officially on sleds as we took to the trails of Mercer Sno-Goers, White Thunder Riders, and Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters during the 2025 KAOS Leadership Ride. Next Gen Riders led the way as KAOS members came together to do what we all love most... snowmobile! A big thank you to the local clubs for providing us with meals and adequate trails to make this a great weekend spent together in the northwoods.

Broke out my great grandparent’s vintage Ski-Doo sleds for a ride with the Chetek Snow Flyers & ATV Cruzers as part of their WinterFest activities. Knowing the sleds we rode were once the reason our home club began reminds me how important the history of this sport is to have led me to where I am today, representing such a wonderful association of avid snowmobilers and clubs across Wisconsin. Started the next day with my fellow club members at their pancake feed and vintage show, followed by a visit to the Minocqua Forest Riders for their annual vintage show and raffle where they gave away a new snowmobile and fundraised for their year ahead. Wrapped up my day with the Monroe County Snow Trails for their annual fundraiser and dinner. It was so great to visit the southern part of the state and see their beautiful trails within the rolling hills of Monroe County... Hoping to get my sled on their trails soon! On my way back home for the weekend we made a pit stop at the Neillsville Polar Plunge during their annual Winter Carnival. A big thank you to the Neillsville-Granton Trailbusters for having me and making me a frozen snowflake for the weekend.

To wrap up the month, I had the opportunity to lead the annual drag races during the national anthem for the Neighborly SnoGoers of Rusk County. It was a great weekend of racing and riding 10 WSN - www.awsc.org

YOUTH PERSPECTIVES KAOS HITS THE TRAILS: 16TH ANNUAL LEADERSHIP RIDE By: Jake Ward, KAOS VP & Jackson County Youth Advisor The KAOS Leadership Ride looked a little different this year. In years past, we did our annual leadership ride at YMCA Camp Nan a Bo Sho in Lakewood, WI. This year we decided to change it up a bit.

We took it a little further north to see our friends in Vilas and Iron counties, we stayed at YMCA Camp Jorn in Manotowish Waters.

We also had some new faces along with us this year. Those are many Next Gen Riders members, including Sam Landes (Legislative Committee Chair).

Friday night, the youth arrived at Camp Jorn to get unloaded, get situated in the housing areas, have some dinner, and talk with new members and AWSC members they did not know. Once many youth arrived, they rode to the Mercer Area Sno-Goers for a bonfire with smores, hot chocolate, and ice cream. A huge thank you goes out to that club for the hospitality and fun! Saturday was the meat and potatoes of the trip.

Saturday morning the youth took a wonderful 120-mile ride throughout Iron County guided by members of Next Gen Riders, another huge thank you goes out to them. Our lunch stop was at Pine Lake Lodge, a huge thank you to Iron County Little Rippers for their lunch donation. I recommend the chicken tenders. We were met at Pine Lake Lodge by members of the White Thunder Riders Club from Hurley. After lunch, we rode up to the White Thunder Riders Groomer Barn, did a tour of the barn, and talked about what they do, and how they do it. We stopped at the B-47 Memorial Crash Site and Donners Bay Resort on the way back to Camp Jorn.

Once the youth arrived at the camp, we were able to settle in some and then go have dinner. Saturday night was very productive with presentations, the KAOS meeting, and elections of the new KAOS Executive Board.

Sunday morning we packed up, had some breakfast, cleaned up camp, and traveled home safely.

NEWS SNOWMOBILE RECREATION COUNCIL By: Dave Newman

he Snowmobile Recreation Council (SRC) met on February 6, in Arbor Vitae. Committees met and were followed by a full council meeting. Jillian Steffes, DNR Grant Manager, presented the current financial data for the program. The current figures show a significant drop in registration and trail passes which, if continued through the rest of the season, would impact funds available for next year. Of the $5.9 million available for maintenance last season, only $400,000 was not spent even with the lack of snow. There was $487,802 from projects that came in under budget that would be available to fund additional projects. Due to a possible shortfall in funds available for next year, the council decided not to fund any new projects at this time, but to wait until August to see where the program is at.

Jake Holsclaw, DNR LE, reported on current law enforcement efforts and announced there were four snowmobile fatalities at that time.

Drew Nussbaum, Deptartment of Tourism, reported on the Travel Wisconsin Snow Report and presented an updated version of the Snowmobiling PR talking points document, which was approved.

Discussion was held on possible updates to the trail signing handbook, potential law changes to help law enforcement combat trespassing, and AWSC’s proposed legislation to increase registration and trail pass fees. Overloading of bridges was talked about, including the importance for clubs to consider the weight ratings of their bridges when purchasing new equipment. You could be held responsible for damage caused by overloading. A recommendation was made to look at adding an additional column in SNARS for a fourth piece of equipment. A motion was passed to treat project increase requests of more than $10,000 or 25 percent as a new grant request.

ACSA NEWS ACSA FUTURE LEADERS PROGRAM EXPLAINED:

I

f you have ever sat in a meeting and heard, “We need to get our young people involved” then you need to read this article. ACSA (American Council of Snowmobile Associations) has heard this phrase many times and has responded by starting a young leader’s program. This program is called the ACSA Future Leaders Program and within this program, we have started two groups focusing on young riders. The first group is called Next Gen National Riders (NGNR) which is a group of 21- to 30-year-old young adults who want to help and learn about snowmobiling on all levels; national, state, and local. These young adults will also mentor and help educate the Trail Blazers In Training (TBIT). The Trail Blazers are the younger adults from ages 16 to 20 who will be mentored by the NGNR. It has taken time to gather information and to get the program set up. What we are looking for now is a volunteer coordinator.

Someone who has a passion for snowmobiling, is willing to mentor young adults and has a desire to see these young people succeed in taking over leadership positions within our organization. We have an application for a coordinator on our website at ACSA. Deadline is March 1, 2025. There are also applications online for the future leader’s program. The deadline for applications for the NGNR position is March 15, 2025.

What we need now from all of you is help in publicizing this program, mentors, and sponsors.

Publicizing that we need a volunteer coordinator and future leaders. Go to the website and apply.

Mentors, for all those within your state that want to get involved but have no idea how or where to go.

And finally, we need sponsors. Sponsors to help with financial contributions. These sponsors will help in making sure that the young leaders can take advantage of all that ACSA has to offer. It is expensive to travel to Washington DC, for the ACSA Fly-In. It is expensive to have young leaders at the mountain and riding region meetings. Your financial contributions will help ACSA train young people for future leadership roles in our sport.

You asked! We responded! Now we need action! Financial contributions can be made electronically through the QR code or link or by sending a check to ACSA. ACSA is a 501(C3) organization, so all contributions are tax-deductible. NEWS RIDE WITH THE CUP By: Dave Newman The 6th annual Ride with the Cup event was held January 16 & 17. Because the trails were not open yet, the “ride” was done by trucks and trailers. While it is always great to be able to do the tour on snowmobiles, the large caravan of trailers, including the AWSC and Miss Snowflake trailers, was impressive and attracted attention as they traveled through four counties and made 21 stops on the way from Wausau to Eagle River. A replica of the World Championship Derby Cup was delivered to the track for the opening ceremonies.

Over two days, we had several dignitaries join us for some or all of the trip, including Lori Heideman, AWSC President; Jamey Crotteau, AWSC Miss Snowflake; Drew Nussbaum, WI Department of Tourism; Cory Tomczyk, Wisconsin 29th District State Senator and Rob Swearingen, Wisconsin 34th District Assemblyman.

RIDE NEWS 19TH WISCONSIN MILITARY RIDE

T

he 19th Annual Wisconsin Military Snowmobile Ride overcame several challenges this year. Between our low snow and a blast of arctic air showing up at an inconvenient time, it was necessary to alter our original plan.

Many of the military were treated to the racing finale at the World Championship Derby Complex on Sunday, January 19.

On Monday morning, January 20, two groups containing 30 hearty riders met at the Nonesuch American Legion in White Pine Michigan for a day of riding amply snow-covered trails. A homestyle lunch was enjoyed at Antonio’s in Bergland. We ended the afternoon back at the Legion to warm up and wrap up the day.

We are happy that we were again able to appreciate our military and the camaraderie of snowmobiling. Special thanks to the American Legion in White Pine and North Coast Adventures.

Although we appreciate our military resources helping us with a successful ride this year, we’re hoping to return to our home in Eagle River and utilize the WCDC as our base for next year’s ride... our 20th anniversary.

CLUB NEWS THE SHORT STORY BEHIND “A FROZEN JOURNEY” The History of the Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club By: Howard “Rusty” Wolf

W

hy I took the time to write this book, A Frozen Journey The History of the Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club in Eagle River, Wisconsin.

I am an avid old-time snowmobiler. My first snowmobile experience was driving a homemade snowmobile that my grandfather made in 1960. My grandfather purchased a Ski-Doo in 1964 which I raced at local fisherees and events. Of course, racing was not like today.

My grandfather then purchased a 1967 Polaris Colt which I again took around SE Wisconsin racing and entered the Hodag 50 in 1967 and 1968. My father and I bought a Skiroule dealership in 1969 and I raced a Mod 650 and Mod 800 in 1969-1971. I was a member of the 4-Seasons snowmobile club in Newburg at the time.

I went in the Army for 28 years and did limited snowmobiling. I then joined the Tombstone-Pickerel snowmobile club in the 90s and started trail riding again.

After the military, I worked in Milwaukee until I retired in 2013 and moved to Eagle River to snowmobile. I joined the Sno-Eagles in 2014 and was elected president of the club in 2016. I was president for six years. While the club president I found that I had no knowledge of what the snowmobile clubs in northern Wisconsin must do. I did not realize that the club needs thousands of volunteer hours, and tens of thousands of dollars of equipment and must do year-round fundraising. I had a steep learning curve.

In my last two years as club president, I took it upon myself to go through ten large Rubbermaid tubs of meeting minutes, newsletters, maps, and old receipts. I sorted all the information into 3-ring binders by year. As I did this, I thought everyone in the club might be interested in its history. So, I wrote notes and proceeded to write this book “A Frozen Journey.” I believe that the history of our club is similar to the history of many Wisconsin clubs.

I was very proud and honored to be the President of such a grand club!

With the help of two other members Carole Linn and Matt Van Skyhawk, we compiled the many photos to go along with my writing. I also wrote a short history of the Eagle River Derby Track as part of the book.

When it was published in late 2021 the club used the sale of the book as a fundraiser for the club. All proceeds go directly to our grooming account. READERS RIDE THE SKINNER RIDE: CELEBRATING 50 YEARS RIDING YAMAHA SNOWMOBILES By: Rachyl Burzinski

F

or the last few years, my dad and I have made it a tradition to join Earl “Skinner” Herman at the Birches Resort in Springstead, WI, for a week of snowmobiling. Known as “The Skinner Ride,” we head north in early February, and it’s a trip we all look forward to. Other friends have also joined us and before long, even AWSC President Lori Heideman became part of the fun! It’s grown into an incredible week of riding, laughter, and camaraderie, and it’s always great to be surrounded by friends who share the same love for the sport.

This year was particularly special. We celebrated a huge milestone for Skinner—his 80th birthday—and what made it even more remarkable was that we also celebrated his 50 years of riding on ONLY Yamaha snowmobiles! That’s an incredible achievement, and it’s clear that Skinner’s passion for snowmobiling runs deep. You can see in the pictures just how much fun we have, riding through the beautiful Iron and Price County trails. This trip always makes for some amazing riding and unforgettable memories.

In addition to celebrating Skinner’s remarkable milestones, it’s important to mention the impact Skinner and his family have had on the snowmobiling community. Skinner and his wife, Georgia, are currently active members of three snowmobile clubs—Cedarville Snow Travelers in Cedarville, IL, Pearl City Sno-Pearls in Pearl City, IL, and the Orfordville Country Riders in Orfordville, WI. Together with their son Chad and his fiancé, Heather, their involvement in the clubs has made a real difference in keeping the spirit of snowmobiling alive in those areas. This year, the Herman family was honored as the Illinois Association of Snowmobile Clubs Family of the Year, a recognition they truly deserve. They are incredibly dedicated to their clubs, always working hard to promote the sport, organize events, and help out wherever needed. Skinner was also very involved with the purchase of a Tucker for the Cedarville Snow Travelers, as well as, getting a crew together to travel north and help the Mercer Sno-Goers with some trail brushing. Their many years of commitment to the snowmobiling community is something to be admired.

Looking back at all the trips and amazing memories we’ve created over the years, this one was extra special. We’ve always had a blast riding together, but this year with the celebration of such incredible milestones, the trip was even more special. It’s remarkable how snowmobiling has brought us all together year after year, fostering friendship and fun, and we’re already excited for next year!

WHY SKI-DOO IS YELLOW Submitted By: AWSC Vintage & History Committee The start of Ski-Doo’s yellow color can be traced back to Bombardier’s founder, Joseph-Armand Bombardier. Bombardier went to a nearby hardware store and requested the least expensive paint when it came time to decide on a color for the snowmobiles.

Yellow ended up being the least expensive color.

In addition to keeping expenses down, this straightforward decision made the bright yellow Ski-Doo sleds instantly recognized. Yellow eventually became Ski-Doo’s signature color and remains an essential part of the company to this day. For the snowmobile manufacturer, what began as a cost-cutting choice became a long-lasting legacy.

CLUB NEWS THE BLOOMER SNO-HAWKS HAD A BUSY START TO WINTER By: Brenna LaGesse

E

ven with the lack of snow at the beginning of winter, the Bloomer Sno-Hawks from Chippewa County have been busy!

In December alone, we participated in many events.

First off, the Gifts for Kids program where we shopped for a family and donated many items for their Christmas.

We then set up our Christmas display at Bloomer’s North Park, complete with Santa on a snowmobile, we attended the light-up ceremony as well.

The next event we participated in was the town’s 4th Annual Christmas parade. We lit up our snowmobile trailer with many lights. It was great to see all the different floats and it’s getting bigger each year! To end the night, we put together the canopy and opened up the town’s first Winter Brat Stand for the parade goers.

There was even a weenie wagon that delivered brats and hotdogs to the people in the parade lineup. Santa showed up to check on us and said we were we were all on the “nice list.” Despite the rainy and cold conditions, it went rather well and we are considering doing it again next year.

Lastly, our Chippewa County Youth Rep. Macy LaGesse, was certified as a junior instructor for snowmobile safety and helped teach her first class.

SNOWDRIFTERS GIVE BACK: MEAT RAFFLE SUCCESS Submitted by: Lynn Pabst

n Wednesday, November 27, the club held a meat raffle and earmarked the proceeds to help local teachers, spearheaded by club member Kayla Knutson, to provide take-home meals over the holiday break for students in need.

To wrap this up, 2024 was a great year, let’s hope for some snow these last few weeks!

The people came out in force to show support for our community.

We raised $1,040 in the meat raffle, plus people donated another $300 directly to the cause. Also, at our club meeting, members donated more food to help.

Kayla reported back with the following: I’m excited to share that, my class created 40 food baskets to assist 40 families in the district! Each basket contains 19 canned/boxed items, a deck of cards, a cookie in a bag, and a soup mix. I hope this initiative helps fill some kids’ bellies over the break and leads to memorable moments baking cookies and playing games with their families this holiday season.

he Kettle Moraine Snowmobile Club based in Richfield, WI, was selected as a 2024 Fall recipient of the Polaris’ TRAILS GRANT Program! It will help with the re-routing of trails to enable the preservation of wetlands and more within our club.

n Friday, December 6, 2024, the Sawyer County Snowmobile & ATV Alliance held their 5th annual Holiday Gala Fundraiser at the Veterans Community Center, downtown Hayward.

This event combines fundraising with the sparkle and excitement of a Christmas party.

Neal suggested we take a swing at the Polaris Trails Grant program.

He is an extremely valuable member of our club and we would like to send out a big thank you for all that he has done!

Each sponsor decorates one of the twelve guest tables and contributes a significant prize or gift basket for the raffle. The finished tables are stunning to see – each is uniquely themed of the sponsor’s choosing and every year we see stunning new ideas.

The 120 tickets for this event sell out quickly – and as ticket holders poured in on Friday night, they were greeted by a beautifully decorated and festive room, ready for celebration! Our check-in table was manned by the lively youth from Hayward Power Sports and their friends, who, along with the school choir members, also helped with the raffles later in the evening.

Guests bought raffle tickets and perused the long line of prizes and silent auction items, as they cheerfully mingled with other partygoers.

SNOWMOBILE SAFETY COURSE By: Jerry Fischer

D

espite the lack of snow this year, The Deer Run Sno-Rider- in Calumet County along with Manitowoc County’s neighboring club, Collins Paradise Sno-Riders held their annual Snowmobile Safety Class in January which was also Snowmobile Safety Month.

Calumet County Warden Mike Disher attended the last session, explaining the rules and regulations of snowmobiling safely. It was also a special night for Warden Disher, as this was his last class on snowmobile safety. He will be retiring after 27 years of service with the DNR. Thanks again, Mike, for all your years of service promoting snowmobile safety!

Throughout the evening, musician Steve Trude set the mood with background holiday music while some of the Hayward High School Choir members circulated among guests with plates of various hors d’oeuvres, that they helped to prepare. Later, these choir members treated us to a few beautiful holiday songs.

Our new AWSC Miss Snowflake, Jayme Crotteau, attended our Holiday Gala! Jayme is outgoing and positive – and she expressed an interest in coming back to Hayward to speak with our youth about snowmobiling and AWSC—what a great role model she could be for our Sawyer County youth.

The dinner buffet was phenomenal – a large variety of finger foods, salads, hot dishes, and meats. I heard many guests rave about how scrumptious everything was! I don’t think anyone could make a run through that food line and still be hungry, but if so, there was also a full table of artistically displayed sweets to sample, or gorge on if one was so inclined.

Steve Bethke grabbed the mic and gave a short welcome speech before inviting Miss Snowflake up for a well-received introduction.

Bethke expertly kept the evening moving along with the various raffles and silent auction finale and also ran a snowmobile trivia contest that tested each table’s guests.

This event gets better and better—the room and table decorations are a sight to behold, and the camaraderie between fellow motorized sports folks ripens each year. I am already looking forward to next year’s Alliance Holiday Gala!

TWIN RIVER RIDERS CELEBRATE 50 YEARS By: Nicole Lenz

T

he Twin River Riders were officially established in January 1975. We are lucky enough to have two founding members, Lewis Eck and Leroy Scheel, who are still involved to this day.

Our club is one of seventeen, and we maintain 21 miles of trails in Jefferson County. We currently have over 60 members.

Annually our club does a snowmobile trip in January somewhere in the state of Wisconsin. We have an average of 15-20 members attend every year. Our favorite thing about our trips is we all ride as a club whether it be 50 miles to 150 miles a day. We have all ages ranging from 12 to 70. We even have several club members that have three generations enjoying the sport together. In light of the lack of snow, we had the opportunity to travel to the U.P. of

Michigan this year. We hope that northern Wisconsin will get back to normal and we can return home next year!

Our Club fundraiser is a breakfast that we do every February. We use the funds to support a scholarship in honor of a fallen member, Matthew Hahn, one of our past presidents. He was a great supporter of the sport and the trades.

Our members are very active in the Jefferson County Alliance as well, we hold the president, county trail coordinator, vice president, and AWSC Director positions, and run the county website. Our club also has several youth members who have the same passion for the sport. They were some of the founding members of the County Youth Club. They are our future!

ACSA NEWS ACSA TRAILS REGION MEETING By: Dave Newman

T

he American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) held their Trails Region meeting and ride in northern Minnesota at the Fortune Bay Resort and Casino on Lake Vermilion.

ACSA Executive Director, Christine Jordain; Vice President, Dave Newman; Past President, Dan Long, and Trails Region Facilitator, Mark Hazzard were joined by attendees from Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota including AWSC President, Lori Heideman. Friday morning the attendees met with Tim Engrav, District Program Manager for the Superior National Forest and talked about snowmobiling in the Forest. A roundtable discussion was led by Mark Hazzard on Saturday morning where numerous topics were discussed and information was shared. To top it off, everyone was pleasantly surprised at how good the trails were and were thrilled to get out for a couple of days of good riding!
