26-27 MSM Performance Calendar

Page 1

It is my true privilege and delight to welcome you to Manhattan School of Music’s 2026–27 performance season. With more than 1,000 performances encompassing the full range of MSM’s classical, jazz, and musical theatre programs, this season offers something for everyone. (Be sure to check our website regularly throughout the season for additional performances and calendar updates.) Our nine performance venues will house eight thrilling months of live performance: from a Symposium and Jazz Orchestra concert honoring the centenary of John Coltrane’s birth to mainstage opera and musical theatre productions of works by Loesser, Handel, Guettel, and Mozart; from performances by the School’s prestigious Kanter Family Instrumental Studies and Orchestral Performance Division (led by, among others, esteemed conductors Leonard Slatkin, Daniela Candillari, and newly appointed MSM Director of Orchestral Activities Mei-Ann Chen) and MSM Artists in Residence American String Quartet and Windscape to performances from the Contemporary Performance Program ensemble Tactus and the ongoing Lives of the Piano series; from faculty and student recitals to a full season of Saturday Precollege Division concerts. And once again this year, we present a busy schedule of open-to-the-public master classes from world-renowned musicians and artists. Finally, our performance season extends beyond campus into the heart of New York, with our students scheduled to perform on some of the city’s most prestigious stages, including Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Music Center, Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Perelman Performing Arts Center. These off-campus events are highlighted throughout the calendar with colorful framing. Bringing to life performances like the ones listed in this calendar beautifully spotlights the collective process of cooperation and collaboration – the act of creating together. And as MSM prepares to open its doors to the season ahead, we’re reminded once again that the performing arts can provide a profound measure of uplift, healing, and consolation during tumultuous times. We look forward to offering many such moments in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Welcome.

James Gandre, President

Manhattan School of Music Mission Statement Manhattan School of Music is deeply committed to excellence in education, performance, and creative activity; to the humanity of the School’s environment; to preparing all our students to find their success; and to the cultural enrichment of the larger community. A premier international conservatory, MSM inspires and empowers highly talented individuals to realize their potential. We take full advantage of New York’s abundant learning and performance opportunities, preparing our students to be accomplished and passionate performers, composers and teachers, and imaginative, effective contributors to the arts and society.
