Ms Laureen
At school, Ms Laureen loved English and Sports because she found them very interesting and specifically for Sports, she had always liked to exercise Initially, her least favourite subject at school was German, because she found it boring and many students in her class, including herself, weren't huge fans of the traditional teaching method which most German teachers at her school followed.
However, during her final years of school, she found herself in a fantastic German teacher's classroom who taught differently than most German teachers She connected topics to reality as well as the present, she explained the importance of each topic and why students as individuals should learn them. By seeing her teacher's brilliance, she developed a passion for teaching German just like her teacher Through the influence of her teacher, Ms Laureen believes that the best way for teaching is not just by reading a bunch of books, but through connecting with present day events and experiences.
Ms Laureen
She loves to read books, taking her dog outside, hiking, and being outside Ms Laureen believes being outside is a great way to take a break from stress and stimuli; and to clear one's mind. Due to her love for sports, she used to play hockey a long time ago.
Ms Laureen is our newest German teacher She is a wonderful individual from Germany who has studied in the University of Duisburg Essen.

On the first day of school, the SY students took part in a small but fun event, where they split into groups, and tried to shoot group photos based off of silly prompts The prompts ranged from “Make a funny face” to “Spell a word with your body”
Back to school

After a long and relaxing summer holiday, the students and teachers of IS Ruhr return to school. To introduce students and teachers into the new year, a back to school barbeque was hosted on the 2nd of September Additionally, for the SY, with a new year come new coaches Therefore, to form a better bond with them, the SY partook in a photo scavenger hunt.
Besides the Scavenger hunt, another event that was hosted was the Back to school BBQ. This event provided a great opportunity for both PY and SY students to bond and have a fun time together The actual food of the barbeque consisted of: Pasta, salads, bratwurst, and brötchen, so there was something available for everyone The barbeque was organized by the PTA (Parent Teacher Association). If you want to find out more about what the PTA is and what it does, check out Mia’s article on page 9

In conclusion, these events give us a fun kickstart into an exciting new school year. But with this brand new year, it is very understandable that you may be feeling stressed or anxious, and it may be hard to figure out how to deal with that. Therefore, if you want to figure out how to combat stress and anxiety more effectively, check out Yu su ’ s article on page 7. Or maybe you feel fairly confident about the school year, but don't really know where to start, check out Charly's article on page 6 to find out about how to create good study habits and how to avoid bad ones.

Students studying

Also try to explain everything in your own words, it can help you figure out if you really understand the topic
Charlotte Cossmann
One of the main rules to be successful is changing your mindset. Think more positively and start believing in yourself When something doesn’t work as planned, do not put yourself down. Some of these study habits can increase your success: Put any digital device that can cause distraction out of the room; try to study in the morning (the brain can take in more information); drink and eat something; take breaks; set goals; reward yourself; study in groups; and take practice tests.
Did you know that a lot of students follow bad study habits that lead to being less organized and successful in school? Many students often do not know that their lack of concentration and motivation can depend on the way they approach a task Most of these “bad” study habits, such as having a phone in the room that you study in and getting distracted by the media can all be factors to why you are unfocused. Starting to study a day before the exam or starting to study with no plan and feeling confused or overwhelmed can be the reason why you feel stressed. Studying to remember instead of understanding, and not taking any notes in class, can make you feel unprepared and unorganized. All these study habits can lead to less success in school
Study Habits
The start is always hard and sometimes it’s difficult to organize your papers to actually start the studying process The following are some organizing tips that can help: Use more than one pen and pencil Furthermore, use highlighters to highlight important things; take notes. To help you remember, write a summary about the topic; use a binder and put any paper in the binder to stay organized; use an agenda; create to do lists; set a goal every week to remind and keep track of yourself; keep your learning environment clean Lastly, when reading and using textbooks, label any important info or summarize every chapter
Student writing an exam
Page T07 HE ISSUE - September 2022
According to the University of Chicago, a study published in the Journal of Science, students can combat test anxiety and improve grades by writing down their worries immediately before the test begins Researchers predict that just one round of writing before a major event is enough to curb choking and boost students' test scores.

"Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength " Charles Spurgeon
Yu-Su Tsai
To test these ideas, the researchers recruited 20 college students and gave them two short math tests In the first test, students were told to do their best Before the second test, the researchers created a situation designed to create stress, where students, who performed well, would receive money, while other students depended on their performance as part of a team effort Students were also told their work would be videotaped and reviewed by math teachers
While we are often motivated to perform at our best in stressful situations, important tests, demos and competitions can cause us to perform below our ability level

The PTA is motivated to allow everyone to share culture at this institution because it is an international school This is why they are encouraging more parents of different cultures to join and help organize celebrations to give everyone the opportunity to feel represented. Previously There has been an overwhelming amount of Christian traditions, due to Germany being majorly Christian If you want to show people a piece of your culture the PTA encourages you to talk to your parents so they can join the PTA as well

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a collection of parents and teachers that are interested in being involved with the school as well as planning things to have a more lighthearted and fun environment every once in a while. They have organized celebrations in the past years as well as the back to-school BBQ this year.

The annual Jewish New Year “Ro Hashanah” is a holy celebration Jewish religion Date of celebrat due to it being based on the He calendar. This year the celebration place from the 25th to 27th of S Technically ‘Nisan’ is the first mo Jewish year, but Rosh Hashanah celebrated in ‘Tishrei’, when God have created the world Rosh Ha like the world’s birthday rather t new year. Rosh Hashanah, which can also be translated to “head of year ” , begins on the 29th day of ‘Elul’, another month of the Jewish year Even though Rosh Hashanah was never explicitly mentioned in the Torah by name, there are mentions of a ‘sacred occasion’ that begins with the 7th month of the Jewish calendar This is the occasion that resembles Rosh Hashanah.Rosh Hashanah is likely to have been established in the 6th century BCE, but the name only showed up later in 200 CE It was to be found in the Mishna, a code of law.
Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur
Mia Mbalisike
During this time Jews all around the world celebrate by reflecting on their own actions in the past year. Rosh Hashanah is used for self actualization, which is why it is also known as a day of judgment and repentance. One important part of this tradition is the shofar, which is blown to honor the past where the shofar had been blown at the origin of this celebration
Person blowing the Shofar

Then follows Yom Kippur, which will be celebrated from the 4th till 5th of October in 2022 According to tradition it originated from when the Israelites had escaped Egypt and arrived at Mount Sinai Moses was given the ten amendments by God, but shattered the sacred tablets out of anger when he found his people worshiping a golden calf. They were all granted forgiveness and Moses was offered a second set of tablets
In between Rosh Hashanah and the soon following celebration of Yom Kippur, God is said to judge all creatures during these ten days and decide whether they should live or die There is time to repent for all sins in order to not be condemned by god
Modern Yom Kippur is sometimes called the “Sabbath of Sabbaths” and has some traditions around it A fast is initiated to cleanse the body, but not everyone has to participate. The sick, the elderly, children, and people who have recently given birth are excused.
More traditions and symbols of Yom Kippur include gathering for a large feast with friends and family before it begins, breaking the fast and having a festive meal with family, wearing white which can signify repentance, and taking part in charity

Traditionally this then continued until the destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans in 70 CE. Thereafter it was adapted into a service for rabbis.

Texts recount that during this time Yom Kipur was the only day on which the high priest was permitted to enter the inner sanctum of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The priest performed a ritual in which he asked God for forgiveness of all the people in Israel
President Zelenskyy also posted a video announcing that Ukraine will fight till the end
Ukraine marked its 31st anniversary of its split with the Soviet Union on Wednesday the 24th of August, this year celebrated by leaders attending memorials of fallen soldiers and victims of the brutal war against Russia.
Many adults and children also visited the “the scrap metal parade” climbing, posing, and taking pictures on burned Russian tanks as a way to show the world they're not scared.

Although authorities banned large gatherings in the country's capital throughout the week, many ignored their requests, thousands of Kyivs citizens gathered and created a joyful atmosphere on the Maidan Plaza. The following article will talk about topics that some readers may be sensitive to If topics such as suicide or self harm, trigger you, move on to the next article or read the article with someone.

Jonas Gesing
Suicide is understood as the act of one intentionally causing one ’ s own death. This can be caused by mental disorders or due to a moment of crisis, caused by life stress, such as financial problems, deaths of loved ones, a breakup, or similar Experiencing disasters, violence, or abuse, also makes many people want to end their lives. Some suicides are planned; however, others happen impulsively.
Suicide Prevention Month
Annually on the 10th of September, World Suicide Prevention Day is celebrated, organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). Overall, the day aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention worldwide. This year ’ s theme, “Creating Hope Through Action”, shows the necessity of collective work that can take action to prevent suicide

Showing people you care is a great step toward making them more comfortable and feel safe.
How weather extremes will be at the end of the 21st century depends on how humans continue to live. However, if the wealthiest citizens on the globe do not change their way of living, the rest of the world will have to live with the consequences of climate change.

When Will People Care?
Scientists agree that global warming does not only increase the overall temperature, as many people believe, but it also makes extreme weather occur more frequently. In the future, we are likely going to be experiencing extreme and long lasting weather situations frequently. In Summer 2021, citizens of Germany experienced extreme floods Over 180 people died and property worth over a billion euros was damaged This year Germany experienced extreme heat from June to August causing droughts, dry forests, and wildfires. Now imagine, that the population of LEDCs has been experiencing such catastrophes for many more years and most of them were way more serious.
For years people have been talking about temperatures rising around the world Between 1880 and 2012, the average global temperature measured at ground surface level increased by 0.85°C. According to NASA since the middle of the 1970s, every decade has been warmer than the previous However, many wealthy people simply do not care, as they believe catastrophic events due to climate change will only affect poorer countries. Now that natural catastrophes have started to hit MEDCs, such as Germany, as well, will people start caring?
Page T15 HE ISSUE - September 2022
When talking about global problems, such as poverty or global warming, people usually mention less economically developed countries (LEDCs) to showcase the seriousness of the problems. However, lately one global issue global warming is affecting more economically developed countries (MEDCs) as well.
A Day Never To Be Forgotten
Jonas Gesing
The victims of the horrific attacks will forever be remembered and the attacks will never be forgotten.
Due to the series of attacks approximately 2 753 people were killed, making this the terrorist attack with the most deaths on American land. However, the number of those killed at the World Trade Center is not certain; therefore, the exact number of victims is not surely known Consequently, 9/11 changed a couple of things in America Not only did it damage significant buildings and take away thousands of lives, but it also caused more care for security. The 11th of September caused airport security and control to become safer even outside of the United States
The 11th of September 2001 is a date that surely no one will forget quickly. Shocking news made the entire world go silent that day. Under 9/11 people associate the series of attacks committed by 19 terrorists that day
September 11 attacks: Pentagon

21 years ago, on the 11th of September 19 terrorists, connected to the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda, took over four airplanes in the USA Three out of the four airplanes filled with passengers were flown into significant American buildings. Two airplanes, American Airlines flight 11 and United Airlines flight 175, crashed into the World Trade Center first the north and then the south tower. The American Airlines flight 77 struck the Pentagon. The last airplane, a United Airlines flight, crashed in a field in Pennsylvania because passengers tried overpowering the terrorists.
Page T16 HE ISSUE - September 2022
The airplanes flown into the World Trade Center caused the most damage and deaths At first, many believed the airplane crashing into the north tower was an accident; however, as soon as the second airplane crashed into the south tower, everyone was certain: the United States was under attack. Both of the towers caught fire and shortly afterward both of them collapsed

Why FC Schalke will Win the Bundesliga!
FC Schalke showed guts in the last minutes of the games when they needed it the most, winning their promotion game 3:2 at home after being 0:2 down at halftime! This is a rare thing to see in Football as there was so much on the line and they still made the comeback

Page T18 HE ISSUE - September 2022
Schalke also has a very consistent striker, named Marius Bülter, who has scored 3 goals in 4 games for the club. He has been at the club for 1 season, him being one of the reasons for the club's early promotion scoring 10 goals and assisting another 10 Schalke was promoted from the second division after only 382 days!
This is my opinion of why they will win this League and I think that you should also support them! With the fans' support, they can achieve that and they will be able to do anything! Glück Auf!
Why will Schalke win the League this year? I will tell you why Schalke has one of the most loyal fanbases in the Bundesliga with over 160,000 members, making them the second most known team in Germany after Bayern Munich. Although they played in the second division last year, they had a full stadium every time!

There will only be two more small external changes to the new iPhone, one being the different color options available for purchase and the slightly raised camera.

iPhone 14
The notch design is also set to change as the necessary equipment to house the face ID components Apple has finally changed the 2017 design into a more modern look So Apple decided to redesign the notch which will be a pill shaped face ID scanner next to a circle as the camera, but sadly this will only change for the more expensive pro models.

Apple will be releasing a new iPhone called the iPhone 14, this phone will have a series of changes Most of the changes will be internally and some externally
Page T19 HE ISSUE - September 2022
After the Apple iPhone mini was a total letdown for apple they decided to drop the series and focus more on the bigger iPhones such as an iPhone 14 (15 5 cm), an iPhone 14 pro (15 5 cm), a 14 max (17cm), and a 14 pro max (17cm)
Page T20 HE ISSUE - September 2022 iPhone 14
The new iPhone will hopefully come out at Apple's next event which will be on September 7 at 19:00.
Of course, the new iPhone will be getting a better camera, this camera will have a new periscope that allows a greater zoom range. They are also rumored to get a 48 megapixel camera with 8k video recording, but again sadly this will only be available on the pro models.

The standard iPhone 14 models are rumored to keep the old A15 bionic chip inside of them but on the other hand, Apple has decided to add the A16 bionic chip into the pro models Apple will likely be doing this to lower its emission costs and supply issues
There are some rumors saying that the new iPhone will be protless and transition into a magsafe kind of charger, but it is not yet sure if this will be in the upcoming 2022 model.
Internal Changes:
The True Story of ‘The True Story of a PartTime Indian’
The book is a young adult novel about an ambitious Native American kid navigating his teen years. The book starts with the introduction of a few characters namely Junior, the main character; his parents, his sister Mary, and his best friend Rowdy. It then describes Junior leaving the school inside his reservation for a school in a white neighborhood and the events that led up to that decision The book then explores the experience of going to such a school and the consequences of leaving the reservation where Junior grew up. The rest of the book is about the various challenges that Junior faces and how they influence him and his views of the world
Overall, It is a great and fun read The author does a good job of portraying a young teen’s thoughts and feelings. The numerous illustrations are very well done and add a lot to Junior’s character, helping you empathize with him. Though to be honest, it’s hard not to empathize with Junior even without the caricatures Throughout the book, we read his journey going through the biggest struggles of his life up to that point, from getting beaten up by bullies to poverty and many hungry days. And at the beginning of the book, he just accepts all of these as a fact of life. But finally, when he gets fed up with the poverty, lack of ambition, and misery in the reservation, that moment is truly a cathartic one You can’t help but root for him through the various basketball games, and can’t help but feel the pain that he goes through as he loses a loved one.

To commemorate International Literacy Day, which falls on the 8th of September, I’ll be writing a book review on The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian.

The book really is a journey, it will make you cry and make you smile, and at the end, it will leave you with a bittersweet feeling, hopeful about the future as the book says that despite all the poverty and alcohol and misery and death that permeates the Native American life in reservations, you can never give up hope despite it all.
Page T22 HE ISSUE - September 2022
Visual representation of Junior
Yea, spoiler alert. I mean, it’s a YA novel, of course, it’s going to have at least one death But the deaths aren’t just there for shock value It makes you feel for Junior and the Native Americans living on reservations An absolutely amazing way that the book played with my heart was with Rowdy, Junior’s best friend. He is very involved in the story throughout the entire book, and it’s always tragic. Now he can be a bit problematic, as he is often using offensive words and that got the book banned in many places But it fits his character and tells the message that the writer wants accurately. Rowdy may be the product of a troubled background but at the end of the day, Rowdy cares about Junior. In the book, as Junior rises higher, Rowdy only falls lower, and it’s heartbreaking to see
