Quick Facts Morningside eclipsed 100 points for the first time since Jan. 15, 2022 in Saturday’s win against Mount Marty.

The Mustangs had four players in double figure scoring Saturday, led by Alexis Spier with 16 points.

Morningside is currently shooting 49.2% from the field. The single season program record is 48.4% during the 1986-87 season.

Dordt enter’s Tuesday’s contest off of an 88-48 win over Midland Saturday.

The current three-game winning streak for the Defenders against Morningside is the longest win streak since a five game stretch from 1978-1981.

2023 Game Notes

Head Coach: Jamie Sale (23rd season) In more than two decades at Morningside, Sale has established himself as one of the elite coaches in the nation while raising the Mustangs’ women’s basketball program to national prominence.

Sale, the fifth active National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ head coach to reach 600 total victories is the winningest women’s basketball coach in Morningside history. He has also established his teams as perennial contenders for a national title, with the majority of his season’s concluding at the NAIA national championships.

Sale was named the NAIA Division II National Coach of the Year in 2004, 2005, 2009, and 2015 after he guided the Mustangs to NAIA II National Championships in each of those seasons. His 2008-09 team finished with a perfect record of 38-0 to become only the second team in history to capture the NAIA Division II crown with an undefeated record after they defeated Hastings College 68-63 in the National Championship Game.

Sale was named the seventh head coach in the history of Morningside’s women’s basketball program on March 26, 2001.

2023 Game Notes

Head Coach: Bill Harmsen (6th season) Bill Harmsen began leading the Dordt Defender women’s program in 2018-19 after serving several years at Western Christian High School (Iowa).

His 2018-19 Dordt team proved to be record-breaking and historic as it posted a 20-12 season record with a 13-9 mark in the Great Plains Athletic Conference which was good for fourth place. The team earned an at-large berth to the NAIA Division II National Basketball Championship where its season ended in the first round of the 32-team field. The bid was the first ever for the Defenders and capped a season where they spent most of the year in the top-20 of the rankings and started the year with a 15-4 record.
