SOCCER WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 28 Morningside returns to its Great Plains Athletic Conference schedule as it steps back onto the pitch at Elwood Olsen Stadium to face Hastings College.

THE SERIES Hastings has been a GPAC powerhouse, last taking the league title in 2018. Morningside’s recent string of successes has come at Hastings’ loss, as the Mustangs have won two of the last three match ups.

THE MATCH-UP Morningside enters this year’s meeting with a 2-0-1 record in the conference and a 3-4-2 overall record. Hastings is 3-0 and 5-1, sitting atop the conference. Gero Zarbo has emerged as Morningside’s goals leader, with three. He’s followed closely by Levi Von Hagen, Jona Fischer, and Robin Thomala, with two each. Thomala is the team’s shots on goal leader, with nine, followed by Von Hagen with eight. Bjarne Huth has eight complete games out of the Mustangs’ nine on the season, giving up 12 goals for a goals against average of 1.5. He has 20 saves, saving 62.5 percent of shots on goal. For Hastings, Lukas Goetz is the goals leader, with three, followed by David Panter with two. Goetz also leads with nine shots on goal. Brendan Dally and Pablo Arce-Salinas have shared time in goal, only giving up six goals this season for an average of one per game.
