DESCRIPTION:
This stunning and iconic reef coral forms massive boulders of bright and colourful fleshy polyps and has been recorded at depths of almost 300 feet, yet most occupy depths between 30 - 90 feet. This species can tolerate ‘muddy’ and silty water given it has high sediment rejection capabilities due to its shape and long tentacles, which can ‘sweep’ to remove accumulated debris on the coral’s surface. Using these tentacles, this coral is also particularly aggressive in its defense of space, which is a commodity on coral reefs!

Questo corallo di barriera, straordinario e iconico, forma grandi massi di polipi carnosi, luminosi e dai colori vivaci. È stato osservato a profondità che sfiorano i 90 metri, ma la maggior parte si trova tra i 10 e i 30 metri. Grazie alla sua particolare forma e ai lunghi tentacoli, questa specie è in grado di tollerare acque torbide e fangose, rifiutando i sedimenti. I suoi tentacoli, infatti, sono capaci di “spazzare” via i detriti accumulati sulla superficie del corallo. Inoltre, il corallo è particolarmente aggressivo nel difendere il suo spazio, una risorsa preziosa sulle barriere coralline!

BESCHREIBUNG:
Diese außergewöhnliche und ikonische Riffkoralle bildet große Polypenkolonien in leuchtenden Farben. Sie kommt überwiegend in 10–30 m Tiefe vor, wurde aber auch in Tiefen von bis zu 90 m entdeckt.
Dank ihrer besonderen Form und der langen Tentakel kann sie selbst in trübem, sedimentreichem Wasser überleben. Die Tentakel wirken wie ein „Besen“, mit dem Ablagerungen von der Oberfläche entfernt werden.
Darüber hinaus ist diese Koralle bekannt für ihr aggressives Verhalten, wenn es darum geht, ihren Platz im Riff zu verteidigen – eine besonders wertvolle Ressource im empfindlichen Ökosystem der Korallenriffe.

DESCRIPTION : Ce corail impressionnant et emblématique forme de massives roches de polypes charnus, brillants et colorés, et a été vus à des profondeurs atteignant presque 100m, bien que la plupart se trouvent entre 10 et 30 mètres de profondeur. Cette espèce peut vivre dans des eaux « boueuses » et riches en sédiments grâce à ses longs tentacules qui peuvent « balayer » les débris accumulés à la surface du corail. Grâce à ces tentacules, ce corail est également particulièrement agressif dans sa défense de l’espace, une ressource précieuse sur les récifs coralliens !

Esta impresionante y emblemática especie de coral de arrecife forma enormes bloques de pólipos carnosos, brillantes y coloridos, y se ha registrado a profundidades de casi 300 pies, aunque la mayoría se encuentra entre 30 y 90 pies de profundidad. Esta especie puede tolerar agua “fangosa” y turbia, ya que tiene una alta capacidad de rechazo de sedimentos debido a su forma y largos tentáculos, que pueden “barrer” para eliminar los escombros acumulados en la superficie del coral. Usando estos tentáculos, este coral también es particularmente agresivo en la defensa de su espacio, ¡Un recurso muy preciado en los arrecifes de coral!

Esta espécie pode tolerar águas ‘lamacentas’ e siltosas, dado que possui altas capacidades de rejeição de sedimentos devido à sua forma e tentáculos longos que podem ‘varrer’ para remover os detritos acumulados na superfície do coral. Usando esses tentáculos, este coral é também particularmente agressivo na defesa do seu espaço, que é um bem precioso nos recifes de corais!
