Dan Educate was born and raised in Chicago’s inner city. His family moved to the lower eastside of New York where he attended high school. Upon graduation, Dan was scouted by several major league baseball teams resulting in tryouts in the famous Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York, The Polo Grounds, and Yankee Stadium in New York City. However, it was the Cleveland Indians organization that he signed with, where he played for a couple of years.

When his family returned to Chicago, Dan married and secured employment with the Chicago Police Department. They recognized his excellent communication skills and promoted him to the position of Safety Officer, which consisted of giving safety speeches to civic groups, high schools and broadcasting traffic reports on WGN Radio.

During his stay with the Chicago Police Department, he was also able to sell insurance parttime; and he soon discovered that the insurance industry could reward his desire to serve people, while giving secured income and benefits (as the police department did) to support his growing family of seven. In 1965 he became a full-time agent for State Farm Insurance.

Fifty years later Dan states “State Farm was and still is the most respected name in the Insurance Industry and is listed in the Fortune 500. They have become: the world’s largest car insurer, the largest insurer of homes in the USA, the safest-rated major life insurance company, the best claims paying ability – as reported by J.D Power”.

Senior Pastor Andrew D. Singleton, Jr. Victory Apostolic Church

Andrew D. Singleton, Jr. is a devoted family man, a servant of God, and he loves and ministers to the people of God. Senior Pastor Singleton was saved in 1978 at the Apostolic Church of God (ACOG) in Chicago under the leadership of the late Bishop Arthur M. Brazier, whose son Dr. Byron T. Brazier is now pastor and carrying on his father’s legacy.

Pastor Singleton was ordained in 1989 and later felt the leading of God to start a church in Chicago’s southern suburbs. In obedience to that call, Victory Apostolic Church (VAC) was began in August 1996 with 12 members. The church experienced such an enormous growth in Chicago Heights, IL, that in February 2009 they were able to move to their current location, a $20 million dollar, 2,500 seat sanctuary in Matteson, IL. In 19 years, God has blessed Victory to grow to several thousand members with over 60 ministries. Additionally, he is the chairperson of the Victory Association, whose mission is to transform churches by training church leaders.

Pastors and leaders from 20 churches participate in an annual conference.

Pastor Singleton holds a B.S. Degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago. In addition, he is also a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner. He has also taken classes for five years at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and is a 2002 graduate of the Master of Divinity program at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. He was Controller and Finance Vice President of several community-based social service agencies in the Chicagoland area. He has worked not only in Chicago but throughout the south suburbs.

Pastor Singleton has served his community as the first Chairman of the Vanderpoel Elementary Local School Council, along with being listed in Sterling’s Who’s Who Directory Executive Edition. He is a member of the South Suburban PADS Board, an organization that provides food, shelter and employment to the homeless. Pastor Singleton is also the chairperson of the South Suburban Community Development Corporation (SSCDC), which has trained over 200 young men and women in the construction trade.

Pastor Singleton is the founder and chairperson for “A Taste of Victory” (ATOV) which is an annual event held in Matteson, where over 500 medical screenings are performed for youth and adults. ATOV promotes over 50 small businesses in a festive environment.

Pastor Singleton was honored in August 2015 to receive the Spiritual Leader of the Year Award from the Matteson Business Association. He works closely with the local political leaders to improve the southern suburbs of Chicago.

But most of all, Senior Pastor Andrew D. Singleton, Jr., loves and cherishes his wife of 41 years, Brenda; their three children Takara, Karena, and Andrew III, all of whom are saved, serve in the church and have completed their college degrees. He and his wife are proud grandparents to their granddaughters, Brianna and Ava; and grandsons, William, Blake, and Justin.

THESSALONIKA ARZU-EMBRY Author / Educator

How do you create a positive, long-lasting dynasty?

Seventeen year old Thessalonika Arzu-Embry, who graduated from high school at 11, earned a B.A. in psychology at 14 and an MBA in organizational leadership at 16 believe she has the right blueprint.

She is currently working on her doctorate in psychology in the midst of building a business and earning her pilot's license, and recently passed required testing to become a hedge fund manager. She has never viewed age as an obstacle.

"When people have an opportunity to do something to better themselves, I think they should take advantage of that no matter what their age," says Arzu-Embry, who has tested at the genius level. Among Arzu-Embry's long-term goals is launching her own hedge fund company and creating a portfolio of companies that provide diverse offerings ranging from financial services, to psychological counseling to travel services. Her aim is high--- to not only make the Fortune 500 one day, but to be among the elite Fortune 10.

She is pursuing her doctorate in human factors psychology, which focuses on improving and adapting technology, equipment and work environments to complement human behavior and capabilities.

At present, Arzu-Embry, who is fluent in Spanish and has her own website, is part of a diverse family business enterprise, and has written five self-help books. Among them is The Genius Race, written to help readers make the right choices to have a fulfilling life.

Arzu-Embry, whose MBA included a concentration in Future Studies, also authored In the Future. It focuses on cycles and trends, and explores how organizations and individuals can be prepared for tomorrow's challenges.

To help college-bound students, she authored, Jump The Education Barrier. The book advises students on how to complete college more cost efficiently, and in less time while still mastering their studies.

"Statistics show that many people who start college don't finish," says Arzu-Embry. "Fewer than 40% of full-time students complete their bachelor's degree within four years, and for 60%, it takes seven to ten years.

"The reality is higher education is designed to be costly, lengthy and inconvenient. I want to help people jump this barrier."

Arzu-Embry's self-published works, which just hit the market this year, have already sold more than 15,000 copies.

"Leadership starts with serving," she says. "A humble leader shows respect to all, both employees and clients, has concern for the welfare of others and vision," Arzu-Embry says. "The vision for any organization should be to help others by enriching lives, building better human beings and encouraging people to become more than they ever believed possible."

For Arzu-Embry God has been her primary role model, along with her Mom, who encouraged her to succeed and not let age restrict her ambitions. While her mother was attending college, she home-schooled her daughter using college textbooks, and discovered she easily grasped the concepts. She continued to provide Arzu-Embry with more challenging work, and that motivated her to obtain her B.A. and Master's much earlier than the norm.

"I'm happy that God gave me the wisdom and power to excel in different areas of life, not just one area," Arzu-Embry says, "I want my dynasty to be that I pleased God. I want to have a testimony of service to God." Dr. Yetta L. McCollum D.D.S., M.S. Periodontist

Based on the Southside of Chicago since 1988, Dr. Yetta G. McCullom is a board certified periodontist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of gum disease. Dr. McCullom comes from a family of accomplished dentists, with her father and brother both having worked in the field, and her great uncle being the first licensed dentist in the Virgin Islands. Following in their footsteps, Dr. McCullom graduated from Howard University in 1983 with a degree in Biology, and proceeded to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University’s College of Dentistry in 1985. As a 2nd generation graduate from a historically black college, Dr. McCullom is proud to have the legacy continue on with her youngest daughter now attending Howard University as a 3rd generation undergraduate.

After deciding to professionally concentrate in periodontics, Dr. McCullom went on to be the first and only African American woman to be accepted into and complete the Master of Science program at (the now closed) Northwestern University Dental School, with a Certificate of Periodontics in 1990. Since then, Dr. McCullom has been diligent in advancing her education in the field of periodontics, while aiming to implement the latest periodontal practices and procedures for her patients.

Along with taking credits at the esteemed Misch Implant Institute and the Dawson Center for Dental Education, Dr. McCullom has also served as an instructor at the Institute of Advanced Laser Dentistry. As an instructor, Dr. McCullom has been able to further understand the application of laser treatment more thoroughly, while fulfilling her passion of teaching dentists how to best treat periodontal diseases. As an impressed and supportive advocate for laser therapy, Dr. McCullom has incorporated LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) as a treatment of her patients’ periodontal medical needs. LANAP has comparably done for dentistry what Lasik has done for eye care.

In her shared practice, The Dental Dream Team, Dr. McCullom focuses on performing minimally invasive procedures like LANAP and Chao’s Pinhole Surgical Technique for gum recession. Whenever possible, Dr. McCullom prioritizes helping her patients keep their natural teeth, but also offers implants as an alternative. Because of the prevalence of periodontal disease in the African American population (nearly 60%), along with the associated risk factors of diabetes and heart disease, Dr. McCullom is committed to providing her community with the most current and evidence-based methods of periodontal treatment available.

When Dr. McCullom isn’t practicing periodontics, she loves spending time with her family and friends. In her free time, Dr. McCullom enjoys biking, walking her dog, and dancing. She is always in search of enjoyable ways of staying healthy.

Wendell D. Mosby is the founder and President of Just WIMP Company. WIMP stands for “Walking In My Purpose.” Just WIMP is a consulting firm specializing in political campaign management and youth character education. Mosby received his Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in Apparel Production Management with a Minor in Entrepreneurial Studies.

At the age of 14, Mosby started his first business called Wimp Wear, a motivational tshirt line. He has spent over 15 years as an empowerment speaker, youth advocate and community engagement specialist. As a lecturer, Mosby has spoken widely on all aspects of public service, entrepreneurship, and Black male achievement.

In 2011, Mosby was the youngest ever to be elected to the Board of Trustees at Prairie State College. He is also the Chair of the Chicago’s Young & Powerful PAC (YPPAC) and Illinois State Director for the Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network.

John Henry Whitehead

Creator of the Black Lives Yearbook™

John Henry Whitehead is the creator of the Black Lives Yearbook™, an annual history calendar that recognizes the accomplishments of contemporary African Americans. Born and raised in Chicago, John is a Speech, Theater and Broadcasting graduate of Chicago State University and has pursued his love of the African American Experience through college radio shows, public access television programs, writing and public speaking. Throughout his life John has been a fan of stories - old time radio shows, the History Channel, and the African American experience – shared by people who had been there.

Not long ago, John’s daughter complained that she couldn’t complete her African American history report because “all the good ones” (Dr. King, Rosa Parks, Dr. George Washington Carver, The Obamas) were taken “And what about young people? Why can’t I find anything about us?” she asked. John met this challenge and created the Black Lives Yearbook “to demonstrate the existence of countless contemporary African Americans “history-makers” who add to a rich, courageous tapestry interwoven into every facet of American history and culture.”

John’s goal is to carry the message of cultural awareness and enrichment to classrooms and living rooms across America. “The entire story must be told. Today’s African American youth are not only basketball players and rappers - they are also entrepreneurs, environmentalists, artists, teachers, legislators, innovators, and visionaries – spearheading businesses, leading social movements, and transforming their communities from the ground up. We need to expand the conversation. The evening news is full of stories about the negative things that happen in our communities…where are the headlines about the young people who strive for excellence every day?”

John, through the example of the Black Lives Yearbook™ wants educators across America to update the curriculum to include current, successful, goal-oriented African Americans who mirror the students being taught about themselves. "That’s my motivation – living, breathing examples.

John's future plans include building a non-profit organization with a mission to empower people to empower themselves and others.

The death of a family member is always a distressing time. This is equally so whether death is sudden and unexpected, or whether it was a slow and painful event. Family members are frequently at a loss as to the cause and the circumstances of the death. Many of these deaths occur outside of the hospital, perhaps at home or at a nursing home. While the Medical Examiner’s Office occasionally assumes jurisdiction in non-traumatic cases, the Office does not have the manpower to evaluate all of these deaths. Hospital pathologists are often reluctant to perform autopsies on individuals who die in that hospital’s emergency room, or who die at home or at a nursing home if the deceased was not previously a patient at their particular hospital, or if their family physician is not on that hospital’s staff.

Family members who sought answers as to the cause of death have had no one to whom to turn.

Our goal is to perform a quality, academically-based autopsy that will inventory all of the pathologic findings which existed at the time of death, and will determine why the deceased died and why they died at that particular point in time. Our findings and report will be completely objective. Our task is to answer questions regarding the cause of death and the circumstances which led up to the death, rather than to critique the quality or appropriateness of the medical care rendered to the deceased.

Darwin K. Yarborough

Darwin K. Yarborough graduated from Englewood High School, Chicago, Illinois and Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD. After graduating from Morgan State University, he entered the field of financial service, where he remains.

In September, 1978, Darwin started as a registered finance representative for Waddell & Reed. He has obtained numerous licenses in the field of financial services. In 1983, Darwin became a Waddell & Reed District Manager. He remained in this position until 1986 when he was promoted to Division Manager in Park Forest, IL. From 1986 to 1988, Darwin led the Park Forest office from #161 to #61 in the Company’s ranking by 1988.

In 1989, Darwin was assigned to manage the Chicago Division office, replacing his mentor and friend in the financial planning business, Mr. Latrice Coleman. During 1990 and 1991, he led the Chicago office to the #1 ranking within Waddell & Reed. Darwin was responsible for managing forty-four advisors generating in excess of $1 Billion in investment assets.

From 1989 to 2002, Mr. Yarborough broadcasted every Monday on V-103 and 102.7 FM, giving financial planning and investment advice to the public. He has also been a guest on local Chicago television stations.

In 2006, Darwin retired from management of Waddell & Reed, but remains a financial advisor. Currently, he mentors and assists numerous clients, advisors, businesses and church groups on financial issues and developments.

Darwin attributes much of his success to studying successful businessmen and mentors such as Latrice Coleman, Jim Rohn, Paul Robeson and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Much of Darwin’s success is also attributed to studying and following success and financial principles found in Biblical scriptures.

Darwin is father to five sons. He also active within his church and the church finance ministry.
