Timothy Muhammad

Owner & Chief Technical Officer of Supreme Technologies Group (STG)

Timothy Muhammad is the Owner and Chief Technical Officer of Supreme Technologies Group (STG), an all-in-one technology company providing IT-management, business class phone and Internet service, computer, cellphone and tablet repair to large and small community based businesses and organizations. Mr. Muhammad began his career 24 years ago at the age of 15 in Sacramento, California.

Drawn to technology at an early age, he would spend hours taking apart and rebuilding his mother’s personal computer, going on to troubleshoot and repair computers for various customers all over the Sacramento area. The demand for his services grew as his skills were ever sharpening and he wanted more. This yearning would eventually give rise to his first business endeavor, Crescent Computers.

Mr. Muhammad’s youth, ambition and knack for finding the source of a computer’s issue garnered him much favor in the community and led to a chance encounter with one of the only black men in the area who owned a computer networking company, Jacques Little, owner of Morgan Computer Service. At Morgan, Mr. Muhammad would hone his networking skills, often spending long hours after work learning to build mini networks, connecting computers with servers, and studying the IT field in-depth. This would go on for several years before he would strike out as the owner of his new company, Supreme Computer Service.

Supreme Computer Service grew to service businesses in California, Nevada and Idaho. And while Mr. Muhammad was in love with technology he found himself wanting more fulfillment. His love for technology is only surpassed by his love for his family and his love for his community.

He would find a way to merge them all by uprooting himself, his wife and their four young children to relocate to Chicago, Illinois to lend his technical talents to a much larger urban community and the Nation of Islam.

Supreme Technologies Group (STG) was started in 2012. Born of the desire to see urban businesses competitive in the technological age, STG’s goal is to make technology easily accessible and affordable to small and medium sized community based businesses.

Supreme Technologies Group services a variety of businesses in and around Chicago from local daycare centers and area Universities to outlying Municipalities. And unlike other technology companies, STG offers a full suite of affordable business class services including on-site computer repair, on-site and remote IT-management, cloud storage, data recovery, and business class phone and Internet service with a focus giving their customers the highest quality of service and a pleasurable experience.

THE COMPUTER STORE

While bike riding with his wife one day, Mr. Muhammad’s cellphone fell out of his pocket and dropped on to the concrete cracking the screen. This experience gave birth to STG’s Computer Bar.

The Computer Bar is STG’s walk-in computer store. Mr. Muhammad’s idea is that the inner-city needs its own establishment by which people can drop in to have their devices repaired quickly and with a level of quality and service that is unmatched.

For Mr. Muhammad, technology is his mission and his love offering to the inner-city, urban community.

George C. Howard, Jr.

Attorney, Consultant & Author

George C. Howard Jr. is an attorney, counselor and author. His book, ”50 Years at The Bar and Still Sober”, chronicles the life and career of one of the most accomplished black attorneys in the country. Born in Kennett, Missouri in 1933, married to Catherine M. Howard now deceased, the father of five children, Mr. Howard has balanced his career and education with family, church and community involvement for eighty-four years.

Mr. Howard is a graduate of Central High School, Lincoln University and John Marshall Law School. He is a deacon and member of Emmanuel Baptist Church as well as a board member of Emmanuel Christian School. His fraternal and club affiliations include the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the Chicago Forty Club, the Elks, and the Chicago Druids Club.

However, it is his accomplishments as an attorney that are truly astonishing. They include defending the first Secret Service Agent to ever be indicted and tried by the United States of America; the attorney in the St. Dorothy’s Church Robbery case which caused the Bail Bond law to be changed in 1967; the defense attorney along with F. Lee Bailey in the Silas Jayne Murder case, 1973; co-counsel with Mr. Bailey in several other cases in subsequent years; defended Delbert Tibbs for murder and rape in the state of Florida; Tibbs was freed from death row and jail; selected as one of the ten (10) best criminal defense lawyers in the state of Illinois by the Chicago Lawyer magazine (from a poll of judges and lawyers); selected as one of the five (5) best criminal lawyers in Chicago by the Chicago Tribune newspaper; defended people in more than 30 states (Alaska to Hawaii); lectured in all of the law schools in the Chicago area and served as an instructor for the National College of Criminal Defense, (John Marshall Law School; University of Chicago Law School; IIT Chicago Kent Law School; DePaul Law School and Northwestern Law School.

George was also the Director of Revenue for the Village of Dolton, Illinois from 2000-2009, and has traveled to more than 17 African countries and most of the principal cities in Europe and South America. Not bad for a kid whose first job at eight years old was picking cotton in Missouri. Founders of The Village Network, NFP (TVN), Warren & LaShawn Davis host the Chicago Housing Expo, and annual event to educate and empower consumers by providing as many home-centric resources under one roof.

A fan of Home and Garden Television (HGTV) and other home renovation networks, Warren states, “We live and bring to life what our clients see on TV, whether its “House Hunters,” “Love It or List It, “Fixer Upper” or “Property Brothers.” “We show our clients how not to just watch, but how to experience it!”

As seasoned brokers with an eye for luxury, Warren and LaShawn are highly communicative and professional---making this husband/wife team a pleasure to work with whether one is buying, selling, renting or renovating.

Warren, formerly a mortgage lender of ten years, keeps a strong handle on the financial side of the transaction. LaShawn, a licensed general contractor and home remodeler, has a great eye for design and value optimization to deliver to her clients, their dream home. This landed her a HGTV episode of “New Spaces,” (Episode “Bathroom for a Bull”) when she remodeled the home of then Chicago Bulls star Kendall Gill.

The Village Network was founded on the belief that if consumers are empowered with knowledge and resources, neighborhoods and communities where they live will improve, hence the motto, “Neighborhood Revitalization from Within.”

The Village Network advocates the Value After Rehabilitation (“VAR”) Initiative. Value After Rehabilitation is the appraised value of a property that has been remodeled or rehabilitated using a Consumer Renovation Program (CRP”). CRPs are little-known mortgages that fund home improvements based on the property’s future (rehabbed) value. However, as originally intended to revitalize neighborhoods and communities, they can actually reduce appraised value of the homes around it when used in a purchase/rehab. TVN has published a White Paper that explains the problem and outlines a long sought-after solution to devalued properties. The VAR initiative is neighborhood revitalization as it pertains to the homestead---using funds from the private sector banks.

In response, Illinois State Representative LaShawn Ford introduced Bill “HB” 0367 - The Value After Rehabilitation Appraisal Appraisal Act. This bill is the cornerstone of the VAR Initiative.

Hosted at the new Malcolm X College facility on April 22, 2017, ChicagoHousingExpo.com brings free information and resources to help consumers make the dream of living better at home as seen on TV, a reality.

Mortgage lenders, legal help, credit experts, designers, featured products, delegate agencies, down-payment assistance, break-out seminars, and other home-centric resources to provide knowledge needed for home ownership, remodeling, and sustainability are expo features. Consumers get pre-qualified for mortgage or refinancing on-the-spot.

The Village Network’s greatest challenge is outreach. Individuals are encouraged to contact friends, neighbors, block club, Alderman, State Rep and Congressman, and encourage them to support State of Illinois Bill 0367, and to reach out to Warren and LaShawn for a free consultation, or to volunteer.

Nathan Kirkwood, Jr.

Founder of Nathan Kirkwood Associates and Taxes by Kirkwood & Vice President of St Elizabeth Credit Union

Nathan Kirkwood Jr.’s business life can be simply stated. He is the sum total of his experiences. Beginning at nine years of age he sold Jet magazines and Chicago Defender newspapers from 6:30 – 8:30 am, before school. This work experience taught him, at a young age, the importance of getting up early for a job, selling a product and understanding how Black people appreciated him being of service to them.

Later at twelve years of age, he organized his five brothers to sell Jet magazines during the year, and snow cones in front of the A&P and National Food stores on 37th, 39th and 43rd Street during the summer months. This taught him family teamwork, and how working as a family could satisfy their daily needs and supply products of substance to the community.

These early experiences of getting an early start on a job, learning how income is produced, working with others, and being of service within the Black community were to be the foundation he was to carry to every job thereafter.

In college, while working at the U.S. Postal Service, he learned teamwork, chain of command, and interpersonal relationships. This gave him the confidence to embrace more challenging jobs as a regulatory examiner of financial institutions for the State of Illinois, and economic development officer for the City of Chicago. He also sold investment products through Waddell & Reed, and insurance products through Prudential Insurance Co.

This concentrated involvement in the fields of economic development, finance, insurance and sales would prove to be invaluable as a banker, and resulted in his elevation to the position as Vice President of Economic Development at Gateway National Bank at 79th and Stony Island in Chicago. From Gateway and staying in the Black community, he continued as a Banker at Pullman and later Highland Community Bank.

It was at Highland Bank that his dreams of utilizing all of his past experience came together, and the business firm of Nathan Kirkwood Associates and Taxes by Kirkwood was founded.

He knew that he wanted to be in the community that had supported him as a child of the Black Community.

He knew he wanted to have his business in the community that as a banker he serviced through the financing of its homes, cars, and provided its children with college finances. He knew his business had to be where he shopped, lived and worshipped his God. He knew his business had to be easily accessible by foot or by car, ie, the Black community on 79th Street. He knew the community would identify with him. He knew the business would be one that he wanted to be passed on to family and friends. Thus, by doing so, the business would last long after his days were gone.

To accomplish this, he knew he would have to do two important things: advertise and provide year round personal and friendly service. It was there that he has been able to brand the name Kirkwood over the Southside of Chicago.

Nathan Kirkwood Associates and Taxes by Kirkwood for thirty-eight years has provided accounting, income tax preparation, financial and estate planning advice and consultation. It is a family owned business being passed on to Nathan Kirkwood III, MBA and presently the #1 producer. He is ably assisted by his daughter and office manager Litha Herron. She has been with the firm for thirty years.

Hudson is a licensed Architect in the state of Illinois. In 2009, he founded and is President of SOMA Design Consultants, an architectural design and construction management firm. SOMA Design specializes in residential design, small to medium commercial design, and religious and educational development.

He assisted students to bring back ACT-SO Gold and Silver Medalist in Architecture in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Over the 10 years of being a volunteer and sitting as chair, Hudson has mentored and introduced the field of architecture to over 150 students.

In addition to being a property owner, he launched other business ventures such as a barbershop and the Black Golf Association. The death of a family member is always a distressing time. This is equally so whether death is sudden and unexpected, or whether it was a slow and painful event. Family members are frequently at a loss as to the cause and the circumstances of the death. Many of these deaths occur outside of the hospital, perhaps at home or at a nursing home. While the Medical Examiner’s Office occasionally assumes jurisdiction in non-traumatic cases, the Office does not have the manpower to evaluate all of these deaths. Hospital pathologists are often reluctant to perform autopsies on individualswho die in that hospital’s emergency room, or who die at home or at a nursing home if the deceased was not previously a patient at their particular hospital, or if their family physician is not on that hospital’s staff. Family members who sought answers as to the cause of death have had no one to whom to turn.

Our goal is to perform a quality, academically-based autopsy that will inventory all of the pathologic findings which existed at the time of death, and will determine why the deceased died and why they died at that particular point in time. Our findings and report will be completely objective. Our task is to answer questions regarding the cause of death and the circumstances which led up to the death, rather than to critique the quality or appropriate- ness of the medical care rendered to the deceased.

Dr. Yetta L. McCullom D.D.S., M.S. Periodontist

Based on the Southside of Chicago since 1988, Dr. Yetta L. McCullom is a board certified periodontist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of gum disease. Dr. McCullom comes from a family of accomplished dentists, with her father and brother both having worked in the field, and her great uncle being the first licensed dentist in the Virgin Islands. Following in their footsteps, Dr. McCullom graduated from Howard University in 1983 with a degree in Biology, and proceeded to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University’s College of Dentistry in 1985. As a 2nd generation graduate from a historically black college, Dr. McCullom is proud to have the legacy continue on with her youngest daughter now attending Howard University as a 3rd generation undergraduate.

After deciding to professionally concentrate in periodontics, Dr. McCullom went on to be the first and only African American woman to be accepted into and complete the Master of Science program at (the now closed) Northwestern University Dental School, with a Certificate of Periodontics in 1990. Since then, Dr. McCullom has been diligent in advancing her education in the field of periodontics, while aiming to implement the latest periodontal practices and procedures for her patients.

Along with taking credits at the esteemed Misch Implant Institute and the Dawson Center for Dental Education, Dr. McCullom has also served as an instructor at the Institute of Advanced Laser Dentistry. As an instructor, Dr. McCullom has been able to further understand the application of laser treatment more thoroughly, while fulfilling her passion of teaching dentists how to best treat periodontal diseases. As an impressed and supportive advocate for laser therapy, Dr. McCullom has incorporated LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) as a treatment of her patients’ periodontal medical needs. LANAP has comparably done for dentistry what Lasik has done for eye care.

In her shared practice, The Dental Dream Team, Dr. McCullom focuses on performing minimally invasive procedures like LANAP and Chao’s Pinhole Surgical Technique for gum recession. Whenever possible, Dr. McCullom prioritizes helping her patients keep their natural teeth, but also offers implants as an alternative. Because of the prevalence of periodontal disease in the African American population (nearly 60%), along with the associated risk factors of diabetes and heart disease, Dr. McCullom is committed to providing her community with the most current and evidence-based methods of periodontal treatment available.

When Dr. McCullom isn’t practicing periodontics, she loves spending time with her family and friends. In her free time, Dr. McCullom enjoys biking, walking her dog, and dancing. She is always in search of enjoyable ways of staying healthy.

Walker Harris Jr

Founder of Harris Ice Company

At a very young age, I aspired to be a businessman. My desire was given framework during my high school years while I worked after school and on weekends for an African American businessman. After high school, while taking an extended vacation in Chicago with my sister and her husband, I saw and took advantage of an opportunity to make my dream a reality.

At the age of eighteen, City Ice, an ice distribution warehouse center, employed me as an ice bagger. I quickly learned the ice business and its distribution process.

Several months after my employment, I learned that one of the truck drivers who was distributing ice for City Ice was retiring and was looking to sell his route. At the time, drivers were called ice dealers and owned the customer list that they distributed ice to. The driver owned an impressive thirty customers. I purchased the drivers list of customers and started my own company. Harris Ice Company officially started March 15, 1972.

After a few years of delivering ice, I learned that City Ice was in the process of closing the distribution warehouse. I purchased the warehouse in the fall of 1973. I continued to deliver ice in my pick up truck and began soliciting new business for myself and two other drivers whom I had hired. By the end of 1978, I had purchased five refrigerated trucks and continued to upgrade the plant so that I could manufacture larger quantities of ice on the premises and meet the demands of my customers. A storage room and a garage for parking the trucks were added. And in 1981, an office building was constructed and annexed to the old warehouse building. Through the years, I have continued to upgrade and purchase new automated equipment.

Today, Harris Ice Company provides service to wholesale, retail and commercial businesses including the movie and television industry. My company manufactures and distributes cube, block, crushed and snow cone ice. It is certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) with the City of Chicago, Cook County, the Illinois Department of Central Management and the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council.

Despite my demanding schedule as an entrepreneur, I am deeply committed to serving my church and my community. Through God’s grace, hard work, determination and the unwavering support of family and friends, I have become the businessman that I am today.

She looks forward to spending time with family where she finds immense joy; attending sporting events, recitals and concerts of her three sons.

Ms. Williams’ greatest personal vision and goal is to utilize her non-for profit organization, Serenity International Enterprise Inc. to establish one of the largest homecare and housing programs for seniors, Veterans, and people with challenged backgrounds.
