Attractions include the world-famous Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. There are also a number of unique statues, such as Tex Ritter, Jim Reeves, and the very special “Footprints in the Sand”. You can also go back in history with a visit to the Old Jail Museum. The nearby Veterans Memorial honors residents who served our country. Panola College offers both academic and technical programs, and has nationally recognized basketball, baseball and rodeo programs. Our area enjoys great weather, a low tax rate, and good schools. The rural setting offers Texas hospitality and a great place to live or just visit. Kids visiting would enjoy our Davis

Park splash pad and College View all abilities park. If you love country music, Carthage is the place for you. The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and Tex Ritter Museum is filled with memorabilia from over 50 artists, such as Tex Ritter, Jim Reeves, and Willie Nelson. In August each year, new inductees are presented at a spectacular Nashville-type show. Tour the historic 1891 Panola County Jail Museum and Veterans Memorial on the Square. The museum houses the Leila Belle LaGrone Family History Center and Genealogical Library.

Visit the Jim Reeves Memorial on Highway 79 N to pay homage to the country music legend. The memorial park includes a largerthan-life granite statue of the legend. His wife, Mary, and dog, Cheyenne, are also buried there with him.

Interested in art and sculpture? Make a pilgrimage to the works of local artist Bob Harness, sculptor, including the Margie Neal statue on the square, Footprints in the Sand, Tex Ritter and White Flash at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Panola College Pony on the College campus.

12 Cheer on the Panola College ponies and fillies as they compete in volleyball, rodeo, basketball and baseball games and events throughout the year! Volleyball and basketball games are played in the newly renovated Arthur Johnson Gymnasium, while the Panola College National Champion rodeo team competes at the Cattleman’s Arena or one of the Cowboy Church arenas. The Ponies baseball team plays at Jim Reeves Memorial Park which also is home to the Carthage bulldog baseball team, along with a host of Dixie League baseball, softball, and soccer games throughout the year.

Pack a picnic and head to Davis Park with the kiddos to enjoy a day at the playground and the new splash pad.

History buffs can check off the numerous historical markers in Panola County. Start with the international boundary marker, also known as the Republic of Texas Granite Marker, located on the LouisianaTexas border near the junction of Texas FM 31 and Louisiana Hwy. 765. This marked the boundary between the United States and the Republic of Texas. The marker is the only one remaining from the Texas Border Survey and one of only two known International Boundary Markers located entirely within the United States.

During the Holiday Season, visit Merket Christmas Tree Farm in Beckville. Santa is on hand to visit with kids on weekends. Enjoy a petting zoo, hot cider, wreaths and more.

Bundle up, park your pickup truck on the Square, put you chairs in the truck bed and watch the Annual Christmas Parade the first Monday in December.
