WELCOME

For most of us, our wedding is the BIGGEST party we will probably ever throw. It's a monumental point in our lives where we stand before our friends and family and promise love to a partner for the rest of our existence. It's magical. It's something we've thought of since we were small. Filled with sparkly, and pretty things, laughter, happy tears and emotion.

I LOVE love. I get teary eyed at sappy parts of TV shows and movies. When couples tell me their story of meeting/falling in love/proposing I often sit with tears in my eyes in awe of how beautiful the world is when we are able to share love. At weddings I'm thankful to have a camera held up to my face when it comes time for the speeches. I love how different each couple is and how their individuality shines through during their day, from every big decision to every small detail. I love that my job is to photograph these moments and memories, creating heirlooms for future generations.

I've always been enamored with art. The first thing I ever wanted to be when I grew up was an artist/ violinist. I didn't end up doing anything with the violin, but art I stuck with. I studied design art and art history in college and after walking across the stage with my diploma in hand, I worked under many talented master photographers before starting my own business in 2010.

My photography style is relationship focused. I love the different dynamics of each couple and each family and each friend group. I also know, as normal, non-model human beings, getting in front of a camera, you might not feel your natural self. I take the approach of director to help all the excitement and love you have for each other show in your wedding portraits.

I approach each wedding as a new opportunity to capture beauty and love in an individualized way.

I know you aren't like every other couple, and your wedding portraits shouldn't be either. I know you've been dreaming of marrying your person for years now. I like people, so my goal is to get to know you, so I can create beautiful wedding art to perfectly fit you two and your day. HOW WO ULD YO U DE S CR IBE YO UR S T YLE? I'm not a pure poser (ha!), and I'm not a pure photojournalist. I’m a happy mix of the two. My posed images are directed, but fun, natural and free flowing. Candid's are taken by being ninja-like; fast and often unseen. Family portraits are structured, controlled, planned out and quick. I believe your wedding day is first about marrying your love, and second about partying with your people. I'm happy to fall after that in creating gorgeous heirlooms of your romance to cherish for years and years.

IS T H ER E A DIS C O UN T IF WE D ON ’ T D O T HE EN GAGE MEN T SE SSION? I do engagement sessions as a truly complimentary thing. They are included in every package because I think having them taken with your wedding photographer is REALLY important. Engagement sessions give us a chance to get to know each other better. It is important for you to feel comfortable with me. It's also a practice round for your wedding day! You'll know what I mean when I say "snuggle in" and I'll know what poses will flatter you as a couple. In addition, we'll get all the awkwardness out before your wedding day. When you see the images, you'll also be able to see things you love and things you don’t, in order to make sure you get what you want in your wedding portraits. Engagement portraits not only capture professional images of the real day-to-day casual non-wedding garb you, but they're also just really fun!

D O YO U SHO OT WIT H FIL M OR DIGITA L? I am 100 percent digital. In my personal photography, I occasionally throwback to film, but not for weddings or any portrature at this time.

I' M H AVI N G A R ELIGIO US CER E M ONY. A R E YO U FA MILI A R WIT H T HE EVEN TS T H AT WILL TA KE PL ACE? I have photographed many different types of weddings. I've documented Indian, Catholic, Jewish, Episcopalian, Non-denominational Christian, and other ceremonies. If you are having a wedding that is not listed here I would absolutely love to learn all about the customs and events.

R AV E S You know those blogs where people take pictures of the items they would take with them if their house was burning down? Well, if I were to do that, my arms would be full with at least 3 items from Maike. 1) Our beautiful framed black and white wall print of our walk to the Indiana Statehouse for our elopement ceremony, classic in its cobblestone, historic charm, 2) An album of photos Maike designed when I was pregnant that reminds me all the time that beauty is what we show and tell ourselves, and 3) a collection of photos from our traditional Nigerian wedding that placed culture at the center of my life in such an unexpected way. All different occasions, and each time Maike brought her eye for beauty and detail, her openness to meet me on the edge of the expected, and her deep experience in photography that is evident in her ability to capture different places, people, and perspectives. In a word, her work is sensational. The way she has captured such momentous milestones in my life and the keepsakes I have are some of my most treasured possessions. Hire her, you will not only be happy you did, but you will likely find a family photographer for life, much like we have.

Ironically, I discovered her from a wedding website review and didn't have any personal recommendations. Maike was fantastic throughout our entire process. We were able to coordinate everything with Maike from out of state. We did our engagement pictures with her, and boy, we felt like movie stars when we saw the results. She did a great job with our wedding photos, and she was so easy to be with the day of the wedding. She was on time, in charge, prepared with backup shots (it rained a little), and flexible throughout. She's a very nice person, professional, and was able to understand my classic, yet "not boring" vision. Some of the locations and shots she suggested and took, I questioned a little at the time. However, when I saw the photos, I was so thrilled that I put our wedding in her hands because those were the best shots! She's very talented. We were very happy with the value of her services and felt that her pricing was 100% worth it in the end. We've already joked about going back up to South Bend whenever we need any other professional photos because she's just that good and so easy to be around. I can't rave about her enough.
