Seems like this time of year seems to roll around fast. As this world seems to get faster and faster, we need to take time to enjoy the gifts that God has provided to us. Family, friends and the possessions that provide our livelihood. This last summer was trying and testing for everyone, we have decided to use it as a blessing and opportunity to make our cowherd stronger. Finding the genetics that not only survive harsh conditions but thrive in them.

Our family time seems to have changed as the kids are spreading out into their own ventures. Kenny and Keely still live in Rapid City, running OnPoint Construction. They keep very busy working but also taking a little time to play. When we do talk Kenny into taking some time off and come for a weekend, we usually get a project done, he can’t sit still anyway. Karisa lives in New Underwood and works at Rapid City Journal; I think she might be running the place now. She has taken the responsibility of giving a lot of care to her grandparents and greats down there. Kaeli currently lives in Bison and has given us our first grandchild in January, so now we will be giving updates on Paxton. She works at TNT Steaks; she has been helping a lot at the ranch and spent some time with Steve Campbell last summer judging haircoats. She is interested in coming back to the ranch and we are working on it. Kyler is in Montana working for the same people he did here. He makes it a point to come back for family events.

He has always been a rancher at heart, and we are working on how best to help him in his endeavor.

As always, we encourage you to come early and check out the bulls and the whole cowherd. We are not breeding for the biggest cattle but cows that make a living on forage. We have been working on getting the best forage genetics we can. Fertility is function #1, and we build from there. Calving ease, hoof structure, fleshing ability and the list goes on.

Health & Fertility: Bulls have had calf hood vaccinations of Vision7 w/ somnus and Enforce 3 at branding time and then Vision7 w/ somnus and Bovi-Shield 5 at Preconditioning. Only Bulls that have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam will be in the sale.

No bull has ever been treated for any sickness or received any antibiotics. All bulls tested negative for BVD-PI. Breeding Season Guarantee: If a bull should happen to get injured or some reason is not able to breed cows in the first breeding season, purchaser will receive credit for ½ the purchase price of original bull. All claims must be made by October 1, 2022.

Feed Program: The bulls were hand fed a ration twice a day along with free choice long stem hay. The bulls will be conditioned and ready for work by sale day and as always will be on a total forage diet. Our cows are managed in a real world setting and are run as commercial cows. Wedge Tent mother cows graze all year long, with some supplementation depending on weather conditions.

EPDs: The EPDs in this catalog are Interim based on the average of his parents as of early March. $EN: One of the most valuable tools for someone that runs cattle year around can use. It is the dollar savings for an individual for a year. Greater the value the more money saved. The breed average seems to get lower every year and is negative. You will find that Wedge Tent Genetics rank in the top 10% of the breed and are expected to sire females that will save you money. $W: Another valuable tool for cattleman. It takes in four traits to determine this value, birthweight, weaning weight, maternal milk, and mature cow size. It gives an idea of pre weaning value when comparing bulls.

Calving Ease: Bulls noted with HEIFERS are bulls we are confident in their ability to sire calves that will be born unassisted.

Bulls noted as Calving Ease are bulls that should work on heifers but because of some heavier birthweight or lower calving ease in the pedigree, may require some extra attention. If no mention of calving ease we recommend they be used on cows that have had at least one calf. All Bulls in this sale were born unassisted. Any calving trouble is culled, no matter how good they are!

Production: None of these cows have ever missed; each cow has had every calf. Dam age is the age of the cow when bull was born. Scrotal measurements along with current weights on the 2 year olds will be available sale day.

Two Year Olds: We are very excited about the quality in these bulls. They are simply an age sort. Make no mistake about it these are not leftovers, no sales or bulls that did not perform. The culls were taken off and then we simply draw a line at a birthday to sort 2 year olds.

Registrations: There are registerable and commercial bulls throughout the lineup. Bulls that are registerable have their dams registration number listed in the pedigree and have EPD’s. Registrations will be made on a requested basis. Wedge Tent Ranch will retain 1/3 semen interest in all registered bulls.

Genetic Defects: We continue to not use bulls with known genetic defects. All bulls are guaranteed free of AM, NH, CA, M1, DD, OH, and Dwarfism. We believe many other things are genetic in nature and cull for those as well.

Delivery: Bulls will be delivered within 300 miles of the ranch or you can deduct $100 if you take your bull(s) home sale day.

Absentee Bids: We can arrange for someone to confidentially handle your bidding if needed. If you want to use this service it is best to contact us early so we can line up individuals to handle this, we try to use friends and neighbors to handle the bidding. We can also help you select the bulls that will best fit your program.
