Robert Muller, author of several Fields of War battlefield visitor guides and contributor to WWII History Magazine and WWII Quarterly, paints the picture of Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 and provides insight into the how and where the Normandy Invasion took place. Learn about the individuals from the U.S. 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions who overcame the German defenses and the men of the U.S. 2nd Ranger Battalion who captured the German gun positions at Pointe du Hoc. They are the men responsible for the success of the risky endeavor we call D-Day. Period photographs show what it was like in 1944 and contemporary photographs show what some of these battle sites look like today. The presentation ends with a visit to Normandy American Cemetery, site of the bloodiest of the fighting and now a fitting tribute to these men’s sacrifices. Registration required.
