Morning Makers
Monday, October 5 & Friday, October 23 10:30-11:30 am | Adults (18+)
Join us on Zoom for a morning of conversation and crafting! On October 5, we will be creating a terra cotta scarecrow candy holder using 4” pots, paint, and twine. On October 23, we will be creating a cork pumpkin using wine corks, paint, and felt. Registration is required for each session and is limited to MPHPL cardholders. Show & Tell Monday: Pets Monday, October 5 4:30-5 pm | Children (Ages 4-8)
Join us for a monthly show & tell session! This month, each child will get 2-3 minutes to speak and answer questions about their favorite pet. No pet? No problem! Children can also share a stuffed animal or a picture of a pet that they wish they had. Don’t be late – Ms. Kim will kick off the program with her favorite furry friend! Registration is required.
Fall Storytime Tuesdays @ 10:15-10:45 am: October 6, 13, 20 Wednesdays @ 10:15-10:45 am: October 7, 14, 21 Children (Ages 2-5)
Join us for storytime! This is a great chance to get your wiggles out. We’ll read stories, sing songs, and say rhymes together, and we’ll give you a craft to do at home! STEAM Squad is a 45-minute weekly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Music) inspired program. Take a brain break and let your creativity flow. On October 6, we will be doing DIY dragon eggs using pushpins, nail polish, and styrofoam. On October 20, we will be designing graveyard terrariums with skulls, gravestones, and other spooky things. Registration is required for each session and is limited to MPHPL cardholders. TAG’s Teen Trivia Tuesday Tuesday, October 6 6:30 pm | Teens (Grades 6-12)
Join the Teen Advisory Group as they host an evening of trivia that will test your knowledge across subjects such as animals, math, movies, and more. The teen that scores the most points will win a $15 Amazon gift card (for pick-up at the library). Registration is required.
American Heritage Roundtable Thursday, October 8 6:30-7:30 pm | Adults (18+)
Learn about important moments and figures in area history. This month, speaker Gene Stowe will be presenting on his book ALTA: Ms. Chrapliwy and “Battle Uniroyal,” 1969-1982. This true story focuses on Alta Chrapliwy, a Uniroyal worker and mother of two, who filed charges with the EEOC in response to unequal treatment of women workers. Registration is required.
Baby Storytime
Fridays: October 9, 16 & 23 9:45-10:05 am | Children (Birth-23 months) Join Miss Kate for rhymes and stories perfect for the littlest of learners. Halloween Décor Extravaganza! Saturday, October 10 2:30 pm | Adults (18+) Spooky Season is upon us! We’ll walk you through some simple, inexpensive DIYs to add some cute, classy, and creepy (if you dare!) touches to your home, sweet (haunted), home. Make a harvest ready door hanger, no-sew fabric pumpkin, and decorative wood and fabric tray. Registration is required. Toil & Trouble at the Costume Ball: Virtual Teen Mystery Night Tuesday, October 27 6-7:30 pm | Teens (Grades 6-12)
You are cordially invited to attend the Fabulous Falls Costume Ball where everyone is competing for the grand prize. Once you register and select your character, you’ll receive a script and costume suggestions to prepare (be sure to register early!). The 19th Amendment and the Battle for Women’s Suffrage Thursday, October 29 6:30-7:15 pm | Adults (18+) This year marks the 100th anniversary of women having the right to vote. Dr. April Lindinsky, Ph.D., Master of Liberal Studies at IUSB, will discuss the race and class dynamics woven into this history, including change-makers we may already know, and many more that we should know. Friday, October 30 2-5 pm – The Mishawaka Res 13950 Scout Lane, Mishawaka, IN 46544 Rain Date – Saturday, October 31; 2-5 pm Don’t let social distancing keep you from enjoying some family-friendly Halloween antics! Join us for a fun, free Halloween event from the comfort of your car. Simply take a trip to the Mishawaka Res and travel the access road where you’ll enjoy short story stops, try to find all of our hidden objects along the way with our I Spy game, and receive a special treat for the whole carload at the end (the entrance to the Res). The I Spy sheet will be available at our Youth Services desks and on our website beginning Monday, October 26. No registration is required.

Attention all Halloween costume lovers! Send us a picture of you, your child, your pet, or a family costume photo to programming@mphpl.org anytime between October 19-24. We will post the pictures and open up voting on Facebook beginning Monday, October 26 and running through Wednesday, October 28. The winners will be announced Friday, October 30 and their pictures will be on display during our Happy Haunts Drive Thru on Friday, October 30 at the Mishawaka Res. Winners will receive a special Halloween-themed prize that can be picked up at the library location of their choice.

Larry Martin’s World War II: In Their Own Words
An Interview with Werner Klemm, Pearl Harbor Survivor Wednesday, November 11 6:30-8 pm | Adults (18+) World War II documentarian Larry Martin will present a screening of his interview with Werner Klemm. Klemm was stationed aboard the USS Dobbin, a destroyer tender about 200 yards behind the USS Arizona on the “Day of Infamy” - the day Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese Imperial Navy. Larry’s interest in World War II history and his passion for both gathering and sharing the stories of the men and women of the war has sparked the creation of the In Their Own Words project. According to Martin, “the program’s goal is to educate further generations on this fascinating and unique history of World War II, as well as to foster an appreciation for the hardships endured by all war veterans so that we may all live in a free country.” This event will be held live on the Zoom platform.
