Paint Like Pollock

Tuesday, December 14 10:30 a.m.-Noon | Grades K-12 Zimmerman Room Young artists are invited to learn about painter Jackson Pollock and create their own Pollock inspired work of art! This will be a fun, messy time! Adult caregivers must remain in the library for any participant under the age of 12. Registration required.

Build Newton’s Cradle!

Book & Cook @ Home

Experiment with force by building your own Newton’s Cradle. We’ll provide the supplies, you create the science! Adult caregivers must remain in the library for any participant under the age of 12. Registration required.

Join Ms. Carolyn and Ms. Kim for this virtual book club just for kids!  This month we will read and discuss  I Survived: The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 by Lauren Tarshis. During our last session, participants and their families are welcome to join us on Zoom for a special cooking demonstration based on the book!  Registration required. Details on when and where to pick up your copy of the selected title will be sent via email to registrants.

We’ll read a story, test your spidey-sense through different superhero training activities and make a unique Spider-Man craft. Adult caregivers must remain in the room. Registration required.

Twilight Time Tales

Tuesday, December 14  7-7:30 p.m. Age 7 & under Live on Zoom Let MPHPL bring some pre-bedtime stories to your home with our once-a-month evening storytime.  This month is all about snowmen! Passport Pals

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Battle of the Books, a book trivia contest for kids in 5th grade, will be held on Saturday, March 26! Registration will begin on January 3 both online and in person. More information coming in our January program guide!

Monday, December 20  4:30-5 p.m. | Ages 4-8 Live on Zoom Ready to travel the world? During this fun and informative session, you’ll learn all about countries from around the world. Craft, activity, and recipe resources will be provided so you can experience a little bit of the country from home. This month we will travel to Norway. Study up on all or your favorite anime series and show off your knowledge in this fun competition! You can compete on your own or with a team. Let’s see if you can answer questions about Titans, Pro Heroes and ramen loving ninjas! Join us this month for cookies & painting with special guest Linda Pieri! Participants will paint a lantern winter scene. Supplies will be provided.  Registration required and limited to MPHPL cardholders.

Holidays Around the World Virtual Tour Tuesday, December 7 6:30-7:30 p.m. | Adults (18+)  Live on Zoom

Interested in learning about how the winter holidays are celebrated in different countries? Then join us for this virtual tour, where we’ll discuss various holidays and traditions from around the world as well as take a virtual tour through famous landmarks, holiday markets and wintry landscapes.  Registration required.

Spice Club

Tuesday, December 28  6:30-7 p.m. Adults (18+) Live on Zoom Want to spice up your meals? Registrants will receive a sample pack of the spice of the month, a brief historical background and a couple of recipes that highlight the spice’s taste. This month’s spice is Cardamom.  Registration required. Details on when and where to pick up program supplies will be sent via email to registrants.

Winter Reading is Coming Soon! The Winter Reading Challenge will take place from January 3 – February 28 for all ages! Earn a free book of choice and an entry in the prize drawing when you complete an activity sheet. Pick up your activity sheets in mid-December to begin reading in early January. DIY Ugly Sweater or Stocking  Thursday, December 2  4-6:45 p.m. | All Ages  Zimmerman Room

You bring the sweater or stocking, we’ll provide the ugly! Customize your own ugly sweater or stocking with provided supplies. Let us take a picture for our online ugly sweater/stocking contest for a chance to win a prize! Contest will run December 6-11 on Facebook, winner announced Monday, December 13.  Registration required. Register for one 30 minute session (one registration form per family). Please select your first and second time slot choice; you will receive an email confirming your time slot. Preference is given to library card holders. All others will be placed on a waiting list.
