Mishawaka Teen Gaming Night

Tuesdays: August 3 & 17 6-7:30 p.m. | Grades 6-12 Join us for teen gaming! Play our Nintendo Switch™ or choose from an assortment of card, dice and board games. Participants age 11 or younger must have an adult present. Registration required.

D&D™ Quest Girls

Wednesdays: August 4-25 4-5:45 p.m. | Grades 8-12 In search of adventure? MPHPL will be running a weekly Dungeons and Dragons™ adventure for a group of girls seeking to test their mettle in a fantasy world of heroes and villains! Beginners welcome. Registration required. Email a.russell@mphpl.org to join and for set-up instructions. Join the Quest Girls and see what dangers and excitement lie ahead!

Mug ‘n’ Muffin

Thursday, August 19 10:15-11 a.m. | Adults (18+) Our morning book club has gone hybrid – join us in person or virtually via Zoom! Books will be available to pick up from the Mishawaka Library.

Play Dough: Mold & Make

Tuesday August 24 4:30-5:15 p.m. | Children (Grades K-5) Squish and sculpt. Roll and mold. If you like getting creative with play dough, we’ve got the perfect program for you! During this event, you’ll be able to not only manipulate the dough, but also help mix up a batch of homemade play dough! Children in grades K-2 must have adult present in room. Children in grades 3-5 must have adult present in the library. Registration is required.

Cozy Kids

Thursday, August 26 4:30-5:15 p.m. | Children (Age 7 and under) Grab your favorite blanket and join us for this very cozy program that’s all about quilts and the stories we can tell with them. Learn about quilts with stories and songs! Everyone will get a chance to tell their own story with a paper quilt square craft to take home. Children must have an adult present in room. Registration is required.

Roz Puppets Present: George and the Dragon All Ages Join the Roz Puppets for a whimsical retelling of a classic tale set in the times of dragons and enchanted creatures. A young lad, George, will face the terrible Dragon of legend. But how fierce is this dragon? Find out when you join us for this fun, furry, and unforgettable story. Free tickets are required and will be available at the Youth Services desks beginning Mon., July 19. You must pick up tickets for your preferred show at the show’s library location. Due to the popularity of this show, the last 50 tickets will be held for MPHPL cardholders (please bring your library card when you pick up tickets). Limit ten tickets per adult.

DIY Paper Quilt Block

Saturday, August 28 10:30-11:30 a.m. | Teens (12+) & Adults Using a pattern, piece together a paper quilt block. Supplies will be provided. Before you leave, don’t forget to check out the River Bend Quilt Show and cast your vote for your favorite quilt! Registration required.

Then, Now, & Always: The St. Joseph River Story Saturday, August 28 3-4 p.m. | All Ages

Join us for the premiere of WNIT’s documentary “Then, Now & Always: The St. Joseph River Story.” Through interviews, drone footage, and photography, learn how the river has influenced and shaped the lives of the communities that it flows through. Registration required.

BITTERSWEET Morning Makers: Quilling 101 Monday, August 2 10:30-11:30 a.m. | Adults (18+)

Join us for a morning of conversation and crafting! Dive into the world of beginner’s quilling with a simple card front project. Participants can join in person or virtually via Zoom. Registration is required and limited to MPHPL cardholders.

Teen D&D

Mondays: August 2-30 4-5:45 p.m. | Grades 8-12 Adventurers! Ready your sword-arm and prepare your spells! The library is looking for aspiring heroes to join us for Dungeons & Dragons™! Make Way for Ducklings

Wednesday, August 25 10:15-10:45 or 11:15-11:45 a.m. Children (Age 7 and under) Join us as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the classic Robert McCloskey story, Make Way for Ducklings! We’ll read the story, pretend to visit the same locations as the ducks do in the story, and make our own duckling craft. Note: Weather permitting, this event will take place outdoors. Please bring a blanket or towel to sit on if you prefer not to sit in the grass. Registration is required.

STEM-Palooza

Thursday, August 26 10-11 a.m. | Children (Ages 5-12) An open house opportunity for families to experience a variety of STEM activities. Families will learn how to operate a robot, code a caterpillar, and even make play dough light up! Registration required.

HARRIS Aspiring Authors

Thursdays: August 5-26 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. | Adults (18+) Attention aspiring novelists: weary of toiling alone? Join the MPHPL writer’s group to share your victories and struggles with a gathering of peers. Participants are encouraged to bring their first chapter of an original work for presentation, praise, and critique. Email a.russell@mphpl.org to join and for further instruction.

Yak, Snack & Read

Tuesday, August 10 10:30-11:30 a.m. | Adults (18+) Join one of our longest-running book clubs for a morning of book discussion and fellowship. We’ve gone hybrid – join us in person or virtually via Zoom. Books may be picked up at the Harris Branch Adult Services desk.

Morning Makers: Resin Pendants Friday, August 20 10:30-11:30 a.m. | Adults (18+)

Join us for a morning of conversation and crafting! We will be experimenting with UV resin, dried flowers, sequins, and other small objects to create a pendant necklace. Registration is required and is limited to MPHPL cardholders.

Churn it Up! Ice Cream & Toppings Tuesday, August 31 6-7 p.m. | Grades 6-12

Gather together for an ice cream social before summer ends! We will use the ice cream maker at our Harris Branch to mix up our own ice cream creations. Top your ice cream with candies and treats, and top off your summer with board games and friends. Participants age 11 and younger must have an adult present in the library during this event. Registration required.

I Want My MTV Adult Trivia Night

Comic Book Family Trivia Night Friday, August 13 6-7 p.m. | All Ages (Families)

Does your family love comic books and superheroes? Then test your knowledge during this family trivia event! We’ll have a variety of questions about popular comic books and comic book characters. Don’t read a lot of comic books but still love superheroes? You can still join! We’ll have questions for all levels of comic book fans – from the casual fan to the die-hard comic book reader. A prize will be given to the winning team. Winner must be able to pick up prize in person. Registration required. Only one registration needed per team.

Lifelong Learning

Monday, August 16 10:15-11 a.m. | Adults (18+) Why should learning be reserved just for kids? If you have an interest in learning new things, then join us to learn about a unique topic through short stories, videos, music, and more. Each month, we’ll explore a different topic. Registration is required.

Well, my friends, the time has come to raise the roof and have some fun! We may not party all night long like Lionel Richie, but we’ll be celebrating the 40th anniversary of MTV with 90 minutes of trivia! Test your knowledge of the music videos, VJs, and reality shows that helped cement MTV’s place in history. Play on your own or get a group together (please no more than 6 people per group). A prize will be given to the winner. Winner must be able to pick up prize in person. Registration required.

The Great American Road Trip

Monday, August 9 11-11:30 a.m. | Children (Ages 4-8) Buckle your seatbelts and get ready to travel around the United States! From the east coast to the west coast, we’ll discover some of the most fun and interesting places to visit right here in the USA and do a craft together.

When Mishawaka Was the “Power City”: The Story of the Twin Branch Dam & Power Plant Thursday, August 12 6:30-7:30 p.m. | Adults (18+)

Join us as local historian, Peter DeKever, reviews the history and importance of the Twin Branch Dam and Power Plant. He will reveal how it held world records, making Mishawaka the “Power City.” Registration required.

Monday, August 16 4:30-5 p.m. | Children (Ages 4-8) Ready to travel the world? During this fun and informative session, you’ll learn all about countries from around the world. Craft, activity, and recipe resources will be provided so you can experience a little bit of the country from home. This month we’re visiting: Greece

Spice Club

Tuesday, August 24 6:30-7 p.m. | Adults (18+) Want to spice up your meals? Registrants will receive a sample pack of the spice of the month, a brief historical background, and a couple of recipes that highlight the spice’s taste. Come and discuss your opinions, experience, and love (or hate) of the spice of the month.

Celebrating 175 Years: A Virtual Tour of The Smithsonian Monday, August 30 7-7:45 p.m. | All Ages

Have you always wanted to visit The Smithsonian but haven’t had the chance to make it out to Washington, D.C. to see it in person? Then join us as we celebrate The Smithsonian’s 175th anniversary by virtually touring the National Museum of Natural History. We’ll learn a little bit about the history of the museum before checking out various exhibits within the museum. Registration required.
