Books & Babies is a structured 30 minute program that combines books, short rhymes, songs, fingerplays and movement activities to introduce children to the wonder of language. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Sessions are limited to 15 participants.

Toddler Time is a structured 30 minute program in which books, story-related activities and take-home crafts provide an enjoyable group experience. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Sessions are limited to 30 participants.

Preschool Pals is a structured 30 minute program in which books, story-related activities and take-home crafts are used to increase early literacy skills and kindergarten readiness. Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior Mishawaka Library Tues., Aug. 16 6-7 p.m. | Adults (18+)

Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people with dementia to communicate their needs and feelings, especially as their ability to use language changes and lessens. At times, behaviors can present real obstacles for caregivers to help and manage. Join us to learn how to decode behavioral messages, identify common triggers, and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most reoccurring challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. This program is presented in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association® Greater Indiana Chapter. Registration required.

This month, Susanna Ernst is our guest speaker. Ernst is a fifth generation Mishawakan and resident of Hooligan Heights for 18 years. She is the founder and current president of the Northwest Chicago Historical Society. Ernst will be presenting Hooligan Heights: Mishawaka's Wild West. This far west side neighborhood of Mishawaka was colloquially dubbed “Hooligan Heights” in the 1920s due to its rough-and-tumble reputation. Hooligan Heights’ history of racially restrictive covenants, federal housing policy and subsequent urban renewal tells the tale of Mishawaka’s Wild West. No registration required.
