Calling all artists, or anyone who likes pastries!

Join us to create a masterpiece using your creativity and imagination. Express yourself with a one-of-a-kind piece of watercolor art. Adult caregivers must remain in the library.

In this 30 minute interactive session, we will act out a story with yoga poses and use our imaginations to create our own adventures with movement. This session is led by Heather Barron, a certified yoga and meditation teacher. She loves promoting books and libraries as part of her work in mindfulness and movement.

Come experience the artistic talents of local high school students. Each work on display is inspired by the personal stories of Holocaust survivors who rebuilt their lives right here in Michiana. The artwork will be on display in the lower-level atrium during normal library hours at our Mishawaka location.

Join local students as they showcase their entries in The People Next Door student art, video and creative writing contest. After opening remarks and a non-denominational candle lighting, contest winners will be announced. Select students will discuss or read their work. Light refreshments will be served.

May 9: Speaker Peter De Kever will present Mishawaka Historic Preservation Commission's Markers: The Stories Behind Them. He is the Historian Laureate for the City of Mishawaka, president and curator of the Mishawaka Historical Museum, and has written several books on Mishawaka history. Join us as we learn about the numerous historical markers that the Mishawaka Historic Preservation Commission has placed at significant locations throughout the city.

When someone is showing signs of dementia, it’s time to talk. Often, conversations with family about changing behaviors can be challenging and uncomfortable. This program provides tips for breaking the ice with your family so you can address some of the most common issues that are difficult to discuss. This program is presented in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter.

Becoming a Trauma Informed Foster Parent with SAFY Mishawaka Library Thurs., May 18 6-7 p.m. | Adults

A Master Level, Board Certified Behavior Analyst from Lighthouse Autism Center will join us to provide basic information about autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including early signs of ASD, advice for appropriate interactions and de-escalation techniques. Plenty of time will be allocated for answering any questions you may have.

Join Foster Parent Recruiter, Amber Spoto to hear more about becoming a foster parent with Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY)! With 12 years of experience in the field, Amber will also lead a conversation on how to be the most trauma informed parent that you can be.

Come with questions as it will be a great opportunity for ideas and feedback!

Lending Limits: What do I need for a Library card?

To obtain your Library card you must:

1. Live in Penn or Harris township, or have a home Library card from a Library system which is reciprocal with MPHPL (some restrictions may apply).

2. Provide required documentation: (1) a valid photo ID with current address OR (2) a valid photo ID and proof of current address

if ID address is not current OR (3) a valid photo ID and a valid resident home

Library card for reciprocal applicants 3. A parent/legal guardian's signature is required for any minor under the age of 18 wishing to register for or renew a Library card. *Non-residents may purchase a fee card. Contact Circulation Services for prices.

If your card has been lost or stolen, please call Circulation Services at any MPHPL location. You are financially responsible for material that is checked out until you report your card lost or stolen.
