Edi-Asp brought on Jacqueline Isles into GS in the second which proved to be the right move as the turned around the lead the Panthers had and went into the second half up by 2. The mids of the Eagles in Maggie Carlon and Lauren Bond worked tirelessly to ensure the ball was deliveredtotheshooters.
With a couple of positional changes to defence and themidcourt,DevonMeadowscameoutstrongafter the main break and kept their composure. Still trailing by 1 heading into the last 15 minutes, they had one more push to retain the lead and keep it until the final whistle was blown for their first win of theseason.
The Panthers look forward to their contest against Morningtonforthenextround,andEdi-Aspwillhead toSeafordforaThursdaynightmatchunderlights.
KARINGAL(80)vHASTINGS(28)
Without captain Ash Barnett on court for Hastings, this match against Karingal was going to a tough contestforthisyoungteam.
The introduction of Kaylia Stanton to the Bullettes lineupinround2,wasthedominateinclusionfortheir high volume of goals each quarter. Hastings bests Holly Garac and Casey Dunstan through the centre waspositivefortheteam,buttheexperienceofKate OmanandSaraDrainforKaringalexcelled.
Even though Hastings will be disappointed with the result, they have the weeks ahead to focus, develop and improve. Karingal take the 52-goal win and positionthemselvesatthetopoftheladderaftertwo rounds. Next up, the match of the round will be Karingal against Chelsea, and Hastings head to Tyabb.
RYE(37)vMORNINGTON(36)
After their 1-goal loss to Tyabb in the first round, Rye had 4 points in their sights in their twilight contest againstMornington.
Another match in the wet weather didn’t suit the game style of the Demons, but the players started strongwithlotsofdefensivegainstogivethemavital 4-goalleadatthemainbreak.ForMorningtontoget back into this battle, they knew it had to be done throughout the third quarter. Some positional changes put Abuk Kenyang from defence into goals for the Doggies, and introduced fresh legs into the mid court. A 12 to 7 goal quarter put the visitors in frontbyjustonegoingintothelast.
Charlotte Wills for Rye came back into C to run out the last 15 minutes, but for the rest of the team they knewtheyjusthadtorefocusiftheywantedthewin. A shot with only seconds to go put the Demons in front,andanumpire’sdecisionattheveryendofthe game may have resulted in a draw but the hosts cameoutwiththeirfirstwin.
Mornington will have a close contest against Devon Meadows, and Rye will have the same against Crib Point.
