Marty White CLUB PRESIDENT Fall is almost here! As much fun as summertime is, there is something magical about cooler temperatures, crisp nights and football on TV. The fact that autumn is my favorite season as an adult is ironic because as a child, the mere mention of it inspired dread at the thought of going back to school.

Fall is a busy time for golf as our course takes advantage of the changing weather to reach its best condition of the year.

Champions will be crowned in the Men’s and Ladies’ Club Championships, the Senior Club Championship, and the Iron Byron Member-Guest. As we get our swings ready on the driving range, please pay careful attention to the yardages as we have seen a significant uptick in damage from balls driven through the net at the end of the range as well as balls hit onto Queens Road East.

Our tennis and pickleball communities will also benefit from the cooler weather. We continue to make progress on the racquet center project, although navigating the City’s new Unified Development Ordinance and other mundane issues have slowed (but not stopped!) our pace. Nevertheless, the Club’s architect is close to final drawings and contractors have been consulted about pricing – more to come, hopefully soon. Please make a point to stop by the Tennis Trolley if you haven’t already.

With school back in session and families back in town, our dining venues will be popular. This is especially true for casual dining in Tavern 21 and Oakwood Café. Please use the Club app or online portal to make reservations whenever possible, although our staff will make every effort to accommodate walk-ins with minimal wait.

Lastly, if you know me at all, you know I am a huge sports fan. Fall is arguably the best time of the year for sports-watching with the start of college and pro football, the Ryder Cup, and baseball playoffs. Please make plans to enjoy watching your favorite team in Tavern 21 or the Donald Ross Lounge and Terrace with no reservations required.

Thank you for your continuing love and support of our Club. Lastly, for the teams we all can agree on at this time of the year: Go USA and Go Panthers!

ACCOLADES Our Myers Park family has grown!

Congratulations to the MPCC Culinary Team for taking home the trophy at the annual Chef of the Carolinas Competition!

Hosted by the Club Management Association, this fundraising event provides scholarships for students and young managers in the private club industry. MPCC defeated 9 other club culinary teams from the region presenting their dish of Seared Wagyu Tenderloin, Truffle Parmesan Mousse, Roasted Tomato Salad, and Lava Salt.

M E E T T H E M I TS

The Manager in Training (MIT) program was created to provide an opportunity for recent graduates to build their skill set before landing a leadership position within the private Club industry. The food and beverage MIT focuses on working within our service team to learn all elements of member dining and banquet service, before slowly moving into a supervisor role and eventually working alongside our food & beverage management team.

The Events & Activities MIT, new this year, is focused on providing the training and guidance necessary to progress in the events sector of private clubs. This position works closely with our Events Director and our Youth & Activities Director to learn about and contribute to all private events, member events, and member activities.

CAMDEN HYDE

F & B MIT I am from Robbinsville, NC, up in the mountains. I attended Western Carolina University and obtained a bachelor's degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a minor in Communications. I have a passion for the hospitality industry and hope to one day work in the entertainment side of the industry. A fun fact about me is that I love to attend concerts and once waited in the front row for 9 hours at a music festival for my favorite artist!

SAMANTHA MORRIS Events & Activities MIT

I am originally from Des Moines, Iowa but have always dreamed about living closer to the coast. This past May I graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Hospitality Management & Events Management. My professional goal is to create events where people can have fun and make new memories! Aside from creating memorable events, I love to travel & have been to 20/50 states in the last 2 years!

BF &R BA MIT NDON FOSKEY I am originally from Accokeek, Maryland and recently graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a degree in Food Service Management, which I hope to parlay into becoming a professional Food and Beverage Manager in my future. A fun fact about me is that I am musically inclined! When I’m not working towards my food and beverage goals, I enjoy playing the double French Horn, which I have played since third grade.

PERSONAL TRAINING NEWS MPCC has 5 personal trainers who work one-on-one with members to design engaging exercise programs. A personal trainer is an excellent resource for beginners who need help getting started as well as for more seasoned exercisers who want to push themselves further.

Jill Sherman has been training members in the afternoons for 2 years, and we are thrilled to announce that effective August 28th, she will also be training in the mornings. Jill graduated Queens in 2021 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science. While at Queens, she played forward on the field hockey team for 4 years and coached for Charlotte Ambush Field Hockey Club. She is looking forward to meeting the morning crowd at the gym and to celebrate, we are offering an introduction special to train with Jill:

GROUP EXERCISE We offer 15 classes a week including: cardio strength, deep stretch, barre, circuit training and Pilates. If you’ve been keeping your exercise to yourself and feel like you’re getting bored with your routine, it’s worth exploring some of the many benefits of group exercise. With the right activity and a great group of members, you can make burning fat and calories less like work and more like hanging out with friends.

We've made some exciting changes to the calendar for the fall starting the week after Labor Day. Advanced registration is required on the MPCC website or app. The group exercise calendar is posted here.

NUTRITION SERVICES MPCC's registered dietitian and nutritionist, Jacy Shaffer, can get you started you on the right path. When you recognize that you want to make a change to your diet, whether it be for managing weight, cholesterol or blood pressure, Jacy can help. She assists members with meal planning, grocery lists, and recipes. If you’re ready to have a real conversation about finding a way of eating that will leave you nourished and fulfilled, call Jacy at 312391-0000.

PILATES STUDIO Are you looking for a way to improve your posture, coordination, flexibility, stability, endurance and core strength? Consider Pilates: a full body conditioning workout involving a series of controlled, focused movements that can be adapted to suit a variety of levels and abilities. The Pilates Studio is located on the first floor of the Sports Complex and is equipped with two Pilates Reformers, two EXO chairs, a ladder barrel and a step barrel. We offer one-on-one Reformer sessions as well as duet training in the Studio.
