Marty White CLUB PRESIDENT As I write my last Clubber letter of 2023, please let me begin by thanking you for the privilege of serving as your president. I deeply appreciate those whom have shared words of encouragement, and I have greatly enjoyed talking with and getting to know many members throughout the year.

If you attended the 2023 Annual Meeting in January, you will recall I set forth “3 Big Things” for 2023: 1) completing and opening the upper level of the Clubhouse, 2) commissioning a comprehensive capital reserve study and 3) renovating the racquet center complex. Although two months remain in the year, I would like to recap our progress thus far.

The upper level of the Clubhouse opened on schedule at the end of May, and we celebrated the milestone in style with the Centennial Grand Opening Celebration in June. The Clubhouse renovations have deservedly earned rave reviews, including national recognition from Golf Inc. Magazine and locally, the Charlotte Business Journal’s Heavy Hitters Commercial Real Estate award. We continue to study member usage patterns and we are very interested to see what spaces are most popular during the winter months. If you have not yet enjoyed the elevated dining in the Byron Nelson, do yourself a favor and make a reservation today!

Nationally recognized private club consultant, Club Benchmarking, spent countless hours on campus this summer taking stock of every capital item – from HVAC units to swimming pool liners and tennis court surfaces to tee boxes. The capital reserve study will give us line of sight into the useful life and estimated replacement cost of every capital item on property, thereby allowing us to budget and plan for the future more effectively and prudently than ever. As we work on the FY 2024 budget, we will use the capital reserve study to inform our evaluation of the level of capital dues necessary to ensure we are planning for future needs in a fiscally responsible manner.

Finally, rest assured that the racquet center improvements, including six new pickle ball courts, remains full speed ahead.

Unfortunately, “full speed” has not been as fast as many, including myself, would like due to the new Unified Development Ordinance, heritage tree requirements and other entitlement speedbumps. Nevertheless, the property has been fully surveyed, several design iterations have been completed, and two contractors have given preliminary pricing. While still a moving target, the goal is to break ground in Q1 2024. More details, including a funding plan designed in conjunction with the capital reserve study, will be shared prior to year-end.

It is an honor and privilege to serve our beloved Club alongside our excellent GM/COO, Don Smith, and his team. Last but certainly not least, please join me in thanking and congratulating Eddie Bean, Brian Boone, and Mal McLean as they complete their terms on the Board of Directors: job very well done, gentlemen.

BENEFITS OF FITNESS RESOURCES Some people just get the whole working out thing. They wake up at the crack of dawn, no one has to tell them to go with the eggs instead of the pancakes, and when they get into the gym, they just have some kind of sixth sense about what to do. But, if this isn’t you, don’t fret. Most of us need a little help with our workouts. Whether it’s figuring out what to do or being motivated to push ourselves once we’re there, it’s helpful to have someone along for the ride. If you’re feeling like you’re stuck in an unproductive rut, here are some reasons to work with a personal trainer or attend a group exercise class: 1. A trainer will figure out your strengths and weaknesses and determine a personal workout regimen for you to follow. If you prefer to exercise with friends, a group exercise class takes all the thinking out of working out.

2. Motivation and encouragement. We all need to hear we’re doing a good job and we need to be pushed.

3. Accountability. On the days when you just don’t feel like working out, it can be easy to make excuses for not going. But having someone at the gym waiting for you makes canceling a much bigger deal.

4. Variety. Instead of going to the gym and doing your go-to 30 minutes on the treadmill, change it up with the help of a trainer or a group exercise instructor!

5. Learn and move on. Once you’ve reached your goals and you’ve learned how to effectively establish a workout plan and execute it, you can take your fitness into your own hands. Same with a class – you aren’t committing forever, just for as long as you need it! That said, you may love it and if that’s the case, we look forward to exercising with you!

Entertaining this holiday season? Our mixologist, Wilmar Garcia, has curated the perfect cocktails to put every guest in the holiday spirit.

Sour Apple Spice 2oz Bulleit Rye Bourbon 2oz Dark Apple Cider ¾oz Vanilla or Caramel Simple Syrup 2 dashes Lemon Juice Rim glass with cinnamon sugar mixture. Combine all ingredients into tin with ice. Shake for three to five seconds.

Strain into rimmed rocks glass with fresh ice. Garnish with cinnamon stick.

Snowtini 2oz Titos Vodka (we prefer vanilla vodka) 1oz Domaine de Canton 1oz Coconut Water 1oz Coconut Milk 2 dashes Simple Syrup Rim martini glass with coconut flake and sugar mixture. Combine all ingredients into tin with ice. Shake for eight to ten seconds.

Strain into rimmed martini glass.
